I didn't even know Pop smoke had 500 songs.
oh my god
This can’t be a pop smoke list because you cannot say pop and forget the smoke
You’re so original 🙄🙄🙄🙄

Kelly Clarkson over Billie Jean is a crime against humanity
exactly so true
Facts
Its also gutless. Just following the trend of cancelling MJ after the one-sided so-called documentary. Having lived through the 80's I can say that MJ should have at least 10 tracks in the top 150. Billie Jean, Thriller, Beat It, The Way You Make Me Feel, Smooth Criminal, Dont Stop Till You Get Enough, Rock With You, Wanna Be Startin Something, Human Nature, Remember the Time, Black or White... the list goes on.
@@Stereotype23YES!
@@samarthjain145 you answered your own question
Billboard and Rolling Stone have been deliberately disrespecting Michael Jackson for a while now. For example, the other day Billboard made a "Top 20 Halloween songs" list, and Thriller didn't even make the cut. How they could explain how they were able to find at least 20 Halloween songs that were bigger/better than Thriller is beyond me.
@@luke5100100% because of the allegations. I think the thing with MJ is that it’s literally impossible to discount him as an artist and his contribution to pop music and music as a whole, so they can’t just NOT include him. Instead they most likely just place him lower on their to avoid constantly praising someone as controversial as him
True pop music is something that can stand the test of time and not lose its instant catchiness and flavor. I’d say Billie Jean or Stayin Alive are two of the best pop songs ever

True. However, I get that Call Me Maybe is far more popular but Run Away With Me should have been in its place.

Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know" shoulda been on this list. That's the one song that's truly missing.
Absolutely. Easily in the top 100.
It is on the list
And AC/DC's You Shook Me.
Legendary one hit wonder. Definitely deserves to be on it
Disagree about “Smooth”. It’s a well-written track, Rob’s vocals give it a grit, Santana’s guitar playing is on point.. not unhappy with its placement
I was a kid when that track was massive, and honestly it felt a touch like a meme at the time then too. Like, really, this is the track that people are going insane for? lol
No Michael Jackson in the Top 5 is insane 💀
I don’t think it’s too crazy to say there are at least 5 songs better than anything Michael Jackson ever put out.
the songs they picked arent crazy tho like those are undeniable classics
@@Zeldamarie1482 that is crazy when the criterion is "pop music" - he might be the biggest pop star the world will ever see. Since U Been Gone better than Michael Jackson's biggest songs is blasphemous on every level.
@@slightexag I ain’t saying Since u been gone is better, but you could sub it out with a lot of songs better than any one Michael Jackson song.
Not really. Out of the hundreds and thousands of pop songs, it's not insane that one didn't make the top 5
Pop goes the weasel at #1 was a pleasant surprise
I've worked three retail jobs and "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" played constantly at all of them.
The Yummy Yummy stunlock was hilarious lmao
respect on the whitney pick, but billie jean honestly deserves that #1 spot
Smooth criminal
@@fin183 I'd support a Top 10 placement for Smooth Criminal but Billie Jean just did so much more for Michael's career and the pop landscape as a whole
If Katy deserved a spot in the top 100 it was for Hot N Cold, it has aged the best out of her early stuff.
Hot N’ Cold still goes hard
I think Roar is her best song, in my opinion. I think that song should’ve been on the list.
Hot N Cold is great but I think Teenage Dream is more the quintessential “Pop Song” TM

Horrible take
I agree, "So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings" by Caroline Polachek is the best pop song out of 500 of all time
unironically correct
the only correct choice
That would be a great #1 lol
You're supposed to make painfully unfunny sarcastic comments on fantano videos, not speak facts!
I’m desperately seeking evidence that invalidates this fact and I can’t find any.
This list curates 500 of the best songs produced by humankind. The varied nuances, tones, flavors, and themes represented in this list are astounding, albeit open to interpretation. Delicate words strung into sentences which effectively convey the emotions through these musical masterpieces, almost as well as the 1989 Belgian Techno Anthem Pump Up the Jam
No it doesn’t. It’s the best English songs produced by mainly Americans. The world is so English centric and oblivious to anything outside of the English speaking sphere
I love Whitney. I think she's incredible. I love I Wanna Dance With Somebody, but OVER Billie Jean? Hell, over I Will Always Love You is a little weird.
I just think the cultural shift Billie Jean created is so wildly important for the rest of pop history as we know it.
Even though I personally think The Way You Make Me Feel is a genuinely perfect pop song. As is Prince's When Doves Cry. So maybe I just know nothing. 😂
Fully deserved top spot. IMO, good pop music is all about taking that small moment or idea and heightening it into being the only thing that matters for a few minutes, use all the production gusto, all the hooks needed. Dance With Somebody is perhaps the perfect embodiment of that idea. It's not a big idea or a particularly special one, but it is the stuff that builds a life, and Whitney captures it so perfectly.
disregarding teenage dream, of of the best pop songs of the 2010s, as being absouletely stale was wild.
thankful i dont feel the same way you do about this truly timeless song.
Salute to the editor having to go through 500 songs of Melon chorus singing.
Now that video I want to see, perhaps while he's doing a tier list of all 500 songs as well.
1 MJ song in the top 10 is genuinely shambolic
I was shook. The man literally changed pop music. 🤷🏻♀️
Billboard doesn't want to deal with Twitter hate over MJ allegations
@@drzorbo52i personally don't doubt those allegations but hell, mj has been too big and influential, it's weird at last
Michael Jackson wrote about 5/6 songs that could’ve been number 1 on this list.
I will continue to rally against Fantano's Smooth hatred. One of the best pop songs ever. Beautiful blend of rock, latin, and pop music.
If they picked a different vocalist for that song, I would like it quite a lot. That riff alone is catchy enough to carry the song, with a good latin pop beat supporting it. But then Rob Thomas comes in and just brings that whiny dad rock voice that I hate so much. If it was literally anyone else other than Rob Thomas, then I would agree that it's a great, classic song. As is, though, Rob Thomas destroys that track in the worst way possible. I would rather hear Ice JJ Fish sing it.
Rob Thomas is definitely annoying, but Smooth goes hard. I don't understand the Fantano's absolute hate for it. There are redeeming qualities about it.
I feel like the hatred comes from extreme over exposure, I hear that song against my will at least a hundred times a year, and I'm not even sober in those moments. That song is practically a "let's put on a 90s random hits playlist while we drink" element, and that's it. Its a great song, but it suffers from overplaying it.
@@M00SE414i hate that style of vocal but something about that song just makes it work. i love singing along in that goofy voice
Thank you!!! It is a great song
PARTY ROCK IS IN THE HOUSE TONIGHT
"Taio Cruz's Dynamite is awful" Clearly you never experienced the joy of hearing that song come on at a primary school disco, or hearing CaptainSparklez' Minecraft parody of it "TNT", which is a certified hood classic by itself, for the first time. Yes it may be corny as hell, but I am not kidding when I say that song holds a special place in the hearts of a lot of people my age.
Nostalgia
my friends and I used to sing "I throw my glands up in the air sometimes" to make fun of it but now it holds a special place in my heart cuz of that lol
Just because it’s catchy and popular doesn’t make it good. If the popularity of the song was the only thing that mattered they would’ve listed song by listens/sales relative to population. This list tries to evaluate the goodness of the songs
Are you 22?
Millennials just dont understand...
Purple Rain should’ve been top five. Honestly replace that with since you been gone easily. The list wasn’t awful though. They were cooking for the most part.
I'd argue When Doves Cry is better for a pop list
While there are much better CRJ songs, it’s SO nice to see her get such a high placement. Good for her. Possibly THE earworm of the 2010s.
To the left
Take it back now, y'all
One hop this time
Right foot, let's stomp
Left foot, let's stomp

'abcdefu' at #4 was a bold choice
One exclusion I feel like should've been on there is Ellie Goulding - Lights. Such an underrated banger.
It's more into it's own electronica genre, so I think that might have taken it off considerations but I agree it's a fantastic song that deserved to be here.
@@benamisai-kham5892 I feel like genres and sub-genres just don't matter on this list when they got songs like Ice Cube's It Was a Good Day and M.I.A.'s Paper Planes. 😂
This isn't a matter of your personal opinion or whatever you like. Why does everyone have this obnoxious attitude? They're clearly going off of streams/sales, chart positions and how long, probably things like radio play, you know NUMBERS, not whatever _you_ , some rando, likes.
@@nl3064Yeah dude, I'm sure "Yummy Yummy Yummy" is doing numbers
those opening notes never get old
Okay I'll be the party rock guy. I was in middle school when that dropped and it went absolutely nuts. You couldn't go more than a couple hours without someone playing it. Idk how this list is intended to be categorized but for people my age around that time, it wasn't a novelty song. It was an anthem if you will of setting aside your frustrations and worries and just having indulgent fun. It had zero deeper meaning and it did not have to. But it was something that immediately brought Levity and excitement to anyone that heard it
That song is on the same level of awful as the generation of little kids flossing. More like an anthem for throwing oneself in front of a bus
@@slightexag why you care about little kids flossing lmao

Bizarre Love Triangle is one of the most quintessential 80s pop songs. I’m shocked it’s so low.
There's actually no way there's only one MJ song in the Top 100. Absolutely egregious.
I’m sure that ”yummy” song sparked the vietnam war since it came out in 68
That song I feel like broke up multiple bands(Beatles, Cream, etc.(
U can’t have a list like this and not have When doves cry or purple rain
I was hoping When Doves Cry would be top 3 lmao
It's surprising that Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, is not number 1 on the Billboard Top 500 songs chart.
Billboard has historically disrespected MJ. MJ’s family has commented on it saying that they know, and are generally unbothered by their aaaah goofy lists. Every decade they crown a new white boy as the king of pop and it never seems to stick. I’m shocked they didn’t put Watermelon Sugar in the top 10… cause I thought we had a new King of Pop?! 😳😅
At least Billboard is respecting MJ more than Rolling Stone. He's in the top 10 with "Billie Jean".
Michael is great but the endless meat slobbering gets tiresome. What’s the point of making one of these lists if you’re just gonna see the same 3 artists at the top of all of them. It gets stale.
They want controversy lmao.
@@BigOwl51 There's arguably not much of a point at all, but "The best songs of all time... this week" also makes it pretty pointless.
this list is like when you're doing something great and then you get distracted for a moment and then you continue to do something great.
Billboard's definition of pop is actually incorrect. They say that pop is the same as popular even tho that is not true. A pop song is a song that is simple, made for the masses, easy to listen to, usually well produced and performed. Pop songs are not always popular even though they usually try to be. So the GENRE of pop and popular music are two different things.
The "yummy, yummy, yummy" tirade is exactly what I needed to hear today.
It is worse than Justin Bieber's yum yumsong
@@NegaRenGenX2gay2lift no way lol
Woah can't believe "The Farmer in the Dell" got the number one spot! Awesome list
Why does Anthony have a pathological hatred towards raspy rock vocals lol. Smooth is a freaking great song
Because a lot of raspy vocalists of that era were just trying to be Eddie vedder clones instead of developing their own sound
A lot of rock singers after 1994 REALLY wanted to be grunge singers
@@FizzyCape No they weren't. The media was just quick to label every deep-voiced male as an Eddie Vedder ripoff
The Beatles having only one track in the top ten - and at the bottom at that - is insane. There has never been a pop phenomenon that comes even close to what the Beatles represented in 1964. They OWNED the pop charts, in a way no artist since has done (no, not even Michael Jackson). She Loves You absolutely belongs in the top five.
and out of all of the things they could've picked for the top ten... i wanna hold your hand? really??
@@Yelooh Well, it is THE song that broke them in America and made them the global pop phenomenon that they were, so it kind of makes sense. It might not be the best Beatles pop song but it’s arguably the most pop Beatles pop song.
I'm just flabbergasted that they put Silly Love Songs above Yesterday.
@@ogdenwernstom4085 Rather than the 500 BEST pop songs that the name suggests, I think it’s more an attempt to identify the 500 MOST pop songs, as in the songs that are the most unapologetically “pop”, whatever that means. It SEEMS to mean up-beat, up-tempo, infectiously catchy and self-consciously frivolous. But then, that poses the question as to what “Yesterday” is doing on the list at all.
Its a list made to please the young generation. If it was fair Beatles and MJ would have like 15-20 songs in the top 50.
the yummy yummy yummy timer had me crying, real hater shit. respect
More Michael Jackson diminishing/ erasure from history. Rumors/ controversies aside, his music career as the king of pop cannot be overstated

Putting Since You Been Gone in there instead of Thriller proves this was a meme list.
since you been gone is really good and extremely well-respected by music publications, its not much of a surprise tbh
@@demonssinglosongs it shouldn't had been in the top 10 period ✌️
I don't think putting it in the list is wrong. It being so high is. But that song was massive and she can sing her face off, so her being on the list makes sense. Just WAY too high.
Honestly Since U Been Gone actually slaps and has a lot of hidden dissonances in both the guitarr and vocal parts, especially in the verses. It also has some pretty interesting phrase lengths and Kelly’s vocal performance is absolutely ridiculus. It’s a lot better than people give it credit for.
Anyway, Dancing On My Own was robbed. Deserved top 3.
All those novelty tracks and no Blue Monday is straight-up embarrassing.

putting vogue so low is criminality
It's fine. Fellow contemporaries Michael Jackson, Prince, George Michael (one of them with Wham!) Whitney, Janet, and Mariah also have 3 on the list.

it wasn't on the list ???? that's an extremely surprising omission
No one who isn't a gay guy cares about robin in 2023
@@ya9thelatinogringo speak for yourself. Robyn has left an immense legacy for pop artists to follow, and Dancing On My Own is a clear example
It probably would have made it onto the list, but unfortunately this list only considers songs that charted on the Billboard Hot 100 (outside of the 90s, at least), and for whatever reason, "Dancing on My Own" didn't make it there: it stalled out at #13 on the Bubbling Under chart. And now I'm sad.
Personally prefer Call Your Girlfriend, but there are also half a dozen other Robyn songs that could have belonged. Says a straight man in 2023
teenage dream is such a perfectly crafted pop track. even to listen to it today i think it still holds it charm
LMAO editing should keep this type of humorous direction it elevates the video so much
Surprised Anthony didnt talk about how insane it is they put super bass ahead of respect by Aretha Franklin
I feel like they don’t wanna come across as annoying by only selecting old songs at the top but yeah I’ve gotta agree that super bass as number 13 in pop songs of all time is truly truly insane. I’m not sure I saw a Hall and Oates song on here but any of their popular songs could take that spot over super bass easily.
My favorite popstars have 3 songs each. Most of the top popstars also have 2 or 3 on the list somewhere.
I'll listen to the list this weekend! Here's hoping I love it!
This is why Chief Keef is the best pop artists of all time
Such a bold move to put "what does the fox say?" on number one. Congrats to Billboard for keeping it real!
Fantano talks down Since You’ve Been Gone, yet in 2005 tier list he raves about how flawless the song and verses are. Questionable tactics
Yeah, that's confusing as hell.
Even on that list he was praising SUBG just to shit on Behind These Hazel Eyes. I will not tolerate the Breakaway slander coming from this man.

The inherit issue with adding in so many recent tracks is that no one knows how those tracks will actually age yet. Anthony even mentions how poorly Katy Perry has aged and it's not even that old.

Having Madonna appear only once in the top 100, but letting a few of her pseudo pears (and Britney) get two feels rather odd. Also, Vogue is a bit too high in the second 100, and I didn't bother to look for one of her hugest hits "Take A Bow" since anything outside the top 200, if not 250, is crazy.
Anyway, acting like Britny meant more to pop, in terms of singles, than Madonna, is rather insane. We can quibble about her vs Whitney or Mariah, but Britney is not in that class of pop artists, she is a nudge down.
Also, Janet is not really given her due in the top 200 at all, to a rather insane degree - also, once again, some but not all of Madonna's inclusions feel odd, like they feel the need to include her, and then use a rng to figure which hits to include because they otherwise don't care.
now that I look at the list, Madonna 3 times in the top 200, once for the top 100, and the selection is somewhat crazy - and really, you can say that about a bunch of other hit makers at or near her level. And yes, Janet is lacking overall, as are others.
From Janet I would have chosen so many: “Rhythm Nation”, “If”, “Together Again” 😩
Peter Gabriel’s Sledgehammer is the best pop song ever imo
Um… teenage dream will stand the test of time and be a staple of pop music forever… and you just said it didn’t age well! Decades from now this song will last as pop perfection and be remembered fondly as one of the BEST pop songs of all time!
