- A quick video I shot to show you how to build a frame for rug tufting. It's a fast build from simple materials found at a local hardware store.
This frame is 72" x 72".
Materials needed:
2" x 3" x 96" lumber (5 needed and cost about $3.00 each)
Carpet tack strips (6 strips total needed, packs of 3 cost $2.50)
2.5" long screws for frame construction
1.25" long screws for leg braces
Total cost was approx $25

Thanks for taking the time to show this!!! I'm thinking King abouttwking this and modifying the braces so that you can wing nut different sized frames in!!
Mr. Eads! I have been scouring the internet for 3 years looking for a videos, blogs, ect. for hand tufting rugs from start to finish. I haven't started on this project because I couldn't find instructions for making the frame. I google some more today and first result is my middle and high school art teacher :) Thanks for uploading these!
I got both guns for Christmas and I just purchased your online class the other day. I can’t wait to get started!
And how did it go?
Just ordered one of you’re guns excited to start learning !!!
How is it going now?
Thank you for this! And also what are the orange sticks in the borders and what can I replace those with? I live in Costa Rica and I’m not sure if they sell those here. Thanks
I have one like that except it's an antique. It looks like huge yardsticks, with fine wires to grab the material, and the frame is bolted together at the corners using wing nuts.
But yours is better because it's on wheels.
Hello,
Do you use anything to keep it from sliding across the floor or do you tuft with it against the wall? Also, when will you have the premium cloth restocked on your website? I am looking to purchase both the tufting gun and the cloth.
Hi.. I am new to rug tufting and I have a question. After you stretch the tufting canvas on the frame do you need to attach something more to secure it or is the carpet tack enough for the material to hold in place? Thank you!
any guidance on what i’d need to ask for if i want to make a 45 x 45 frame? thank you in advance!
If we are building the frame these dimensions, what size does the rug cloth need to be??
What do you need to build the base that supports the frame?
Thank you! This was extremely helpful! I just purchased my first cut pile tufting gun from you! I can't wait to get started!! Do you have the approximate measurements for each section of the leg braces? My hardware store will cut the wood for you as long as you give them a measurement.
How much was the tufting gun
what did you use to attach the fabric to wood?
THIS IS SO AWESOME! I have never heard of the carpet tack strips before, I am tufting by hand with the danella needle and spend SO much time on putting nails into my cloth.
I hope I can get hold of the tufting gun somehow - maybe i'll need to travel to the US for your workshops. When will you announce 2020 dates?
I’m building a tufting frame just wondering if 2.3 x 2.7 meters is to big for a tufting frame?
How do you attach the loop part to the frame I ordered a frame of ur website and there’s no holes for the loop part and I just have a screwdriver
Where can I get that fabric cut that large ???
Any other solution to replace the carpet tack? Can’t find carpet tack in South America
What are the dimensions for the smaller frame, behind the one you’re building? That one looks the perfect size for me!
What fabric did you just use. Please let me know. No one tells me. I got minks fabric but it’s too thick and not staying on the tack strips. I can’t tighten the fabric
What are the exact measurements we have to cut the wood to?
When making a larger rug, do you need to make a larger frame or is it possible to use a frame this size and then move over the cloth to the unworked section?
you would lose your tension on one side, so really you need a frame to fit the size rug, i would venture to say.
@@manlymcstud8588 definitely would
@@onism3053 i'm playing around with my tufting gun and set-up atm. i couldn't imagine one side not being taut.
i think an alternative method might be to make sections and connect them together with glue and strips of material to overlap the two pieces, then the final backing might be strong enough to hold it all together. (or use the edge of one side to overlap, glue down, then final backing.)
i think i better understand what the original question is, but then the problem would be restretching the material, and the already completed area would be in the carpet strips, inviting disaster.
what are the dimensions for the legs? i’m going to the hardware store and going to ask them to cut it but don’t know what lengths to get them cut. let me know :)!
Awesome tutorial. Where do you get cloth that big? Everywhere I go, the cloths come in small pieces.
Thank you! Link in the description for large cloth. We sell it at www.tufttheworld.com
Thanks for the video, how well are the carpet tack strips working for you?
@@tufttheworld Thanks, I will give them a try
Tim Eads hi! What do you mean by this comment? Trying to figure out how to best stretch the canvas
what are the dimensions for the cloth being used here?
What are the measurements for the legs?
Where do you find fabric big enough to go over the frame??
Trying to figure out the same thing!!
what is the material you are using on the frame? and where can i find it? :)
Tim Eads thank you for the fast reply :)
Good day please where can I buy the turfing machine
Where can I buy the red ceiling fixture installed on the tufting frame?
any hardware store :)
Love the video, thank you! Also wondering what song this is?
credited at the very end of the video. The Reflex by Vladimir Cosmo
where do you get monks cloth that large?
@@tufttheworld hey could you email me trying to buy monk cloth with these dimensions email japplenew123@icloud.com
Where do you purchase fabric this large? I have made this frame and am now struggling to find fabric large enough
www.tufttheworld.com
@@tufttheworld How large is the frame?
@@onism3053 sizes are listed in the description
So how big is this frame? Its final dimensions?
Sorry, I didnt look properly :) @@tufttheworld
What song is this?!
Wait so the fabric literally gets stretched over the nails on the red piece of added wood and that's how it stays in place?
The red piece is the carpet tack strips he mentions in the description. Its covered in tiny nails and that's what the fabric sticks to! But yes you're just jabbing it on those.
I've seen a few people recommend putting something over the tack strips once the fabric is on so you don't accidentally stab yourself!
What do you think that you and I share in the profits? I am in a country where there are no such machines. We want to manufacture and sell furniture
Hi new friend 😘 how much cost of this 🌹
@@tufttheworld🌹🌹 hi friend😘 iam from india can u help me please 🙏🙏🙏
You don’t detail how you cut the pieces?

A how to video without any instructions....great
Thank you. I appreciate your support
@@tufttheworld wasn’t supporting you, was pointing out the lack of instructions in your ‘how to’ video
@@solinworld632 Yes, we understand. We were being sarcastic.
@@tufttheworld poor attempt at sarcasm
@@solinworld632 I got the sarcasm l o l
since things went up i paid about 70 bucks for everything
You didn’t give very many details someone probably wouldn’t even know how to get those angled cuts on the wood or anything
when the lumber is now $5 each instead of $3 😭
I don't know......
shut down this free music please
just jibber-jabber and let us hear the sounds of construction
