this is exactly what i want the redux to be like. this band is one of the best on the planet
visuals were terrifying, but not in a "ahh spooky" kind of way, but a "this is how it feels to watch your loved ones slowly wither away and you can't do anything about it" kind of way.
i think this may be the most angelic song i have ever listened to. i didn't think i could love static dress anymore but they've absolutely smashed it :')

damn olli wasn’t lying when he said redux songs would be very different
brilliant. i wouldn't say it's a "scary" piece even with the accompanying music video. i got more of a feeling of reflective regret. the mourning of what could have been had you chosen differently. existentialism is difficult to present in certain ways but i know from hearing the music & how it's sung i can relate to the regret with my own health even if its mental health & choices i feel now i should have made for *her*....i'm sorry, just the blabbing's of a fool when that time hits again on another lonely Friday night.

Im in love with this.
The song is fantastic. No question about that. The use of AI in the music video is incredibly disheartening, however.
Oli Appleyard is an insanely talented visual creator. From the music videos they directed for Creeper to all of Static Dress' visual branding and output, Oli has a captivating vision and experiments with technology and formats in very creative ways.
Using Midjourney and stable diffusion however is *not* the same as playing with VHS and CRT televisions. Oli and their crew are using *stolen art* for their visuals - despite their good intentions - and it leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. Like Disney and Marvel using AI on Secret Invasion, this is another warning sign that AI is being accepted by creatives despite the moral (if not potentially legal) grey area in which it operates. While AI might allow a creative to bump up the scale of their visual work without having to worry about the cost of practical or digital VFX, it should always come down to the artist's principles.
Also, even if I was morally on board with the use of AI... it doesn't look good. The visuals are disturbing to look at for sure, but they feel completely unrelated to the footage of Oli. Every Static Dress video until this point has felt like a cohesive vision, whereas this cuts between a) something Oli set up & shot and b) something Midjourney spat out, stealing unceremoniously from other people's creative vision(s).
I really hope that this was a one-time experiment and we can move on from this. I would hate to see Static Dress use AI art programs again and I seriously hope that this video doesn't influence others to try.
100% agree with you on this, the use of AI generated visuals is disappointing and I think the eerie / uncanny aesthetic could be done well without it.
With all due respect, you're letting your feelings cloud your ability to appreciate the artistic vision. AI is a tool, and real people use real existing art as visual inspiration. The only difference here is that you can mechanically draw a line between the inspiration and the piece. You have no proof this is AI anyway.
All that being said, get that shit the fuck out of corporate. You cannot use it to replace people's jobs, and if it hews too close to an existing work it should be considered plagiarism.
