The only mall that hasn’t went too downhill is Kenwood Mall. Everywhere else it is a ghost town. I remember in the early 2000’s going to a different mall every weekend and it being crowded. It sucks to see but that’s the way it is now. ❤ great video!
I worked at the Musicland in that mall somewhere around the 1994/1995 timeframe. During that time CD's were becoming more popular and cassette tapes were being phased out. Crazy to see the mall now vs. when it used to be filled with stores and packed with people.
It definitely has been dying for years now, but it’s not as bad as other malls close by.

I grew up in the northern Cincinnati area. It's funny, because Eastgate Mall was probably the least popular mall back in the day, but now it is doing better than the rest (with the exception of Kenwood Mall, which has stayed relatively immune to mall decline for whatever reason).
In the 1980s and 90s that was THE place to go. It's hard to see it like that

When I was young many stores were run out of storefronts in front of someone's home. Later came the grocery stores (as big as a 7 11 today). Then the super stores. Then the malls with their over crowed parking lots at holiday times. Now I just get most items delivered, even groceries. What's next?
I remember the mall from the 80s. Aladdin’s Castle Arcade, Murray Brothers, Willis Music, Water fountain features, Chess king, Orange Julius, Spencer’s, etc.
I can’t believe how this mall went downhill fast. In 2019 it was thriving then the terrible 20s came around and it ruined a lot of malls.
Well there's another reason but nobody will say it.

@@sandbergmachineandtool6226 No.. I know what you’re trying to say, but no. This area is not bad. Crime has nothing to do with this mall failing. Bad management, the year 2020 ruined this mall.
@@slackingpacking all malls going out of business because people can get the items half price online, internet killed the malls... in this 90s this place was so crowded on the weekends then amazon and ebay happened

the mall was a place i could always go to, to get a job, in my 20's. That was the 90's, when malls were still THE place to go. I miss Sears the most. I just saw an TV commercial featuring Sears, bringing everything back, about the place. Sears feels like a favored auntie who died unexpectedly. IDGAF that their check out process was long. That's called an 'experience' and it was a great thing, that modern people wonder why they're so narcisstic AND hostile towards strangers. They're like that because they do not engage in the small social customs of what once was a great concept for a society. If it were designed to house and support all the people, instead of exploiting them. Anyway. xo
Went there yesterday, nice clean mall. Aside from the mall walkers, I was one of the few people actually shopping. If nothing else, its in way better shape than the Northgate mall.
Most vivid memory of this mall is of a woman returning to her car, was abducted, SA'd, and ended a couple of years after the mall first opened. Had the whole city on edge for quite a while. It was quite a shock, as the area was generally considered low crime. The unfortunate woman was the first victim of a multi state crime spree that lasted quite a while. It everyone, especially women afraid to go shopping anywhere near the area. Several years later, even after the person was caught, many women that I worked with refused to go to that mall.
I was actually at the community feedback event, it sounds like it will become outdoor shopping.
i used to go here all the time when i was 5-12 years old, now I'm 17 and it's sad to see my local mall be so dead and unalive. When I was a kid it used to be so much more packed...

I am going to have to get out to Eastgate. Have not been there in years. Last time was pretty wild. This was about 10 years ago and there were armed police packing ARs outside! (The whole ISIS fiasco.)

@@picklle This was back when there were routine warnings that 'soft targets' could be attacked. Armed police were sent to stand around malls here like dumbasses. For at least a decade simply having a camera out could also get you in serious trouble. Not just 'asked to leave the mall' trouble.
Just to let you know Jeremy the Dillards at Boardman closed due to the other mall at Niles Ohio having a Dillards also, and as usual you did a great job of this Mall.🎉

I remember when the ONLY things in Eastgate were the mall, Showcase Cinema, and the Holiday Inn. Then Biggs was built (Jungle Jims now) and that started the boom.
And Biggs was massive too, could just be my childhood perception, but I remember it being way bigger than a Walmart.
I was just in this mall today but not sure I could really call it dead. It did seem to be in some distress with many vacant business
This was filmed in June so it could of had a small turnaround. I know they are getting more tenants.
Before the late 90s/early 2000 renovation the ceilings had really cool blue glass skylights in hexagon shapes, very Star Wars.

Ever since this video, this mall has gotten severely worse and now only has 38 tenants left inside the mall not counting out parcels

Rue 21 faced closures recently due to some insane company management so it’s gone, too.
Yes, and since I posted this comment, there have been some changes with a few new stores coming in as well as a few closing, so I will update the list.
The mall is suing Kroger over them wanting to detach the Sears from the mall for the new Kroger store.
Remember when there were massage chairs down there by Dillard's? They were down right abusive!!

AFAIK the Kroger deal is that the mall is to be converted into an outdoor one-stop shopping space and apartments. Kroger is wanting to put one of their marketplace sized stores there.
today they officially had bulldoozers out there tearing this place down, im sad i met half of my girlfriends and most of my friends from this mall, good times, in the 90s this place was super crowded every weekend
They are not tearing the mall down. They are only doing work to the former Sears.

i would not call it being lazy can't blame people buying stuff for 50% cheaper online than it sells at malls, it's not lazy to save money it's more lazy to not research prices and go to the cheapest stores
I guess they could fill it up with illegal immigrants. There's 10 million more on the way up to the border right now, from 185 countries, mostly 3rd world like Somalia, and Sudan and Haiti.

as much as i dont like the illegals storming usa this video is about a mall, get a hobby stop making political posts on non political videos, my goodness
