No.. but the beginning of the losing of the US Standard and Rise of Ugly US Heads. There is a big difference among the Chinese , Japanese and American. This difference is the Chinese made up 17% of this World Population and they can't be Servants forever nor the Japanese or American be master at all times.
It would be far worse. China is combination of US in 1930, Japan in 1990, Soviet union in 1980 and they have added a unique layer housing volume bubble for which there is precedence. They have used every trick in keep market forces at bay. Also Japan was able to export its way out of trouble because they could export all the capital equipment to china, south east asia, eastern europe etc. Thus only way china to move ahead is go north korea way. Close its capital account completely. bring trade to zero, default on domestic deposits. Within next 5 years, there will be no chinese goods in world market.
I wouldnt put it like that, But if you look at it from China's reliance on selling it labor force. I think you would get the bigger picture, that both Japan at the time and China needs to sell to US. Which if they both were not relying on selling to the US then there should be no problem, but believe it or not US market do matter. ALOT There are no Similarity between J and C People that says ... Yeah Japan is a rich country in GDP per capita at that time, while China is relatively very poor today! And Japan became rich by doing it in an honorable way, without forcing or stealing technology, without many special assistance or large financial help from other countries like China. Without G7 countries , China was no difference than other very2 poor countries in Africa in 70’s and 80’s.

China is not Japan, China is much bigger, its economy is exports based, but very diverse, with rich natural resources which japan lacked, and Chinese people are smarter and well prepared in advance, so China will fight back hard in any trade wars, which japan could not.
The shift in exchange rates actually began just prior to the Plaza Accords in relation to shifts in US interest rates. The period from 79-89 is correlated with market shock in the USA in part due to energy supply issues from the Middle East. Aside from this period the Japanese Yen grew in strength as it's economy grew until it reached it's peak labor participation rate and peak labor market in the mid 90's.

It's a poor comparison for many reasons... 1. The world economy has changed substantially. Trade with USA is not pivitol for China. 2. Unlike Japan, China does not behaves like its colony. 3. China has a significantly more stable and different form of government compared to Japan.
