Thank you Marty for the continuous lessons that never disappoint! I am a beginner and I have already been able to learn classic songs thanks to you! you're my hero
Tony Iommi invented that style of playing which many blew off back in the day as being to fundamental. Thing is they were proven wrong as he has a unique sense of timing and plays lead guitar like no one else. The story of how he lost two of his fingertips on his fretting hand is just incredible. The thing is he he kept playing and I believe his style is heavily influenced by those missing fingertips. Let’s face, most of us would have hung it up that point. The fact that he didn’t, and became a very wealthy man after being raised in a government housing estate in Birmingham, England. Says a lot about the man’s character. Good tutorial!
Thank you for the lessons, Marty! You've been a huge help since 13 years. I learned my first songs from you, and still like to learn songs from you! I can guarantee they are played the right way, and I don't need to figure things out by ear if I'm in a hurry :)
Don’t mind me, I’m just here to learn learn that vocal melody and be on my way, Marty taught me this one well the first time around! Thanks for the refresher Marty!
Ik its kinda goofy but i’ve always seen it as a play on words. “Generals gather in their masses” a bunch of generals gathering together. “Just like Witches at black masses” this time masses being like a church service.
Marty, you are an amazing teacher. Found you about 12yrs ago. I've bought your DVD lessons and learned almost every song I play from you. Just wanted you to know your great buddy
Hey Marty. yhanks again for an great lession. And thanks for putting so much great stuff out for free. ive been playing guitar from age of 10 -20. total self-taught since i never could effort lessions. it was at that time very limited platforms to learn since that was way before youtube.i quite played for many years and picked up guitar again for about 2 years ago. you already made me better than i ever was for sure. youre not one of the guys, but the GUY. i cant tell you how much your videos mean to me. always smiling with great musical insight and ability to learn even me great songs. you really helped me thru a very hard times in my life, dude. please keep up your great work. and you show how to play with mortals fingers. thanks for the effort you give away in your videos. greeting from Norway
Probably my favorite Sabbath song and started playing guitar because of it. It’s only been 4 months playing but this has helped learn most of it and will eventually try the solos.
Kind of funny when they came out with War Pigs in the early 70’s. Kind of a cult following. And now everyone knows and loves it. Met them twice. Really good guys!
I’m definitely not an advanced guitar player and other videos breaking down this song used terms that I don’t even know and we’re so co fusing. This video breaks it down so well. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!
amazing song and lesson. But you know what? Bass line in this song is also absolutely amazing. The whole song is masterpiece, all instruments including vocal.
Thank you so much Marty, I’ve been a long time supporter of this channel I love all of the work and effort you put into helping us aspiring musicians! Cheers mate
From the viewers point of view, it’s much more helpful for beginners if you hold steady tempo when teaching. 6:55 I know a half hour of repetition can get tiresome but drilling the tempo was the MOST important aspect when I was taught. Looking back, I am so grateful that fundamentals were prominent in each lesson
Been a fun lesson. Never thought I would be playing this legendary day so no. Excellent tutorial Every time I come back to this lesson 9:20 cracks me up every single time
Please do a Black Sabbath double feature with Paranoid! Or not, I’ll still watch because you’re a pillar of the guitar learning community and you really earned these views you absolute BAMF
wow i just got new strings on my e guitar and started again after 10 years no playing. i kept practice a few weeks with my classical guitar, and I can play a few songs now :), also freestyle^^ now youre my best teacher to get into e guitar again :) If i was young, i played about 5 years with classical guitar, but i never had a really good understanding for my e guitar. Now a new aera will begin :D
@ 11:02 "wanky vibrato lick" Don't think you meant it this way, but that's quite an insult to throw at a guitarist (AUS, NZ and UK) . Top lesson, as always. Thanks Marty
Hi Marty. Thanks for another great tutorial. This is one of my favourite songs ever. I'm so glad you showed me how to play it. You don't know it but you've been teaching me for a while. I've been a subscriber for a few years now. Keep them coming, Marty👍🏻😁👍🏻 Greetings from England🏴
Embarrassed to say I never learned this and Sab is my all time fave band. But I'm recovering from a total knee replacement so time to get it done. Thanks for the effort!
I would LOVE to see a tutorial for “Brand New Key” by Melanie! You’re the best Marty!! (Seriously I’ve learned so much from you, I can’t thank you enough)
Marty keep the videos coming. Love them… I have a Boss Kitana MKII and have been trying to get a tone like the one you have in this video. Can you post a picture of your amp to see where you have all the settings. I can’t seem to nail it…
With all due respect to Tony Iommi, the first solo is Page on an SG at 20:11. In '70' ? If I was playing? I'd be doing Page also. I'd say Tony is pretty happy he broke his Strat on the first Sabbath album after recording their first track and went to his second guitar for the rest of the album. I haven't seen him play his Strat since the '68' Jethro Tull performance. What would his sound be without an SG? Great Job Marty!! Thanks for posting!!
Do a lesson on the vocal licks you have going. I’ve gotten most of it down by watching ur fingers and playing by ear but I’m missing a few notes help. Lol thanks Marty
Check out my latest content: linktr.ee/martyschwartz 🔥
YES!! Ah yes, Toni Iommi, putting 5 songs worth of catchy riffs into one tune.
Thanks for doing this one. A favorite for sure!!!
Iommi is awesome.
Who else heard the siren and bass when he was doing the intro?
Rock on Marty!
Yup, got a little sweaty too.
Been coming back to Marty vids for nearly a decade now. Thanks Marty - you’re a hero.
You’ve taught millions of people.
Thanks Joe
War Pigs is such a f*cking awesome song by Black Sabbath, I could listen to it every day for the rest of my life 🎸
Thank you Marty for the continuous lessons that never disappoint! I am a beginner and I have already been able to learn classic songs thanks to you! you're my hero
Didn't play for quite a while, learnt so many riffs from this guy in past couple weeks. Your a legend bro 🤘
This has got to be the most graceful tutorial I've seen.
just in time, i’m a massive hendrix and beatles fan (plus nirvana, smashing pumpkins) and many more, i’m just getting into black sabbath i am you

It's a part of the Brummie character to just keep carrying on, we don't change direction.
I honestly think that metal lesson Marty took reshaped how some of his playing is done he is at his peak right now awesome playing as always marty

Rock on!

Don’t mind me, I’m just here to learn learn that vocal melody and be on my way, Marty taught me this one well the first time around! Thanks for the refresher Marty!
What rhymes with masses? Ozzy Osborne: masses!
Pretty sure Geezer wrote the early songs
The original lyrics actually went: Witches gather at black masses, Bodies burning in red ashes. The studio changed it up if i recall correctly
Ik its kinda goofy but i’ve always seen it as a play on words. “Generals gather in their masses” a bunch of generals gathering together. “Just like Witches at black masses” this time masses being like a church service.
And it absolutely rocks
