World Table Tennis Championships,08 May 2011 - 15 May 2011, Rotterdam, NED. Men's Singles Quarterfinal. - Спорт
Zhang may have been a bit cocky before. But now he is much more calm and less arrogant. Most young players when they win their big opens express their feelings majorly and Zhang was no exception. Zhang isn't what his reputation seems like in this video. Despite the fact that he played exceptionally well
Today with the plastic balls matches like this aren't possible anymore. The ralleys were so beautiful and now... serve, flip, point ralley finished. Sad.
This don’t make sense, with the new ball the game is slower making more rallies...
Miles Chan It bounces higher, so it’s easier to flip kill.
Players have adapted to it, the long rallies have not been uncommon
agree, long forehand to forehand rallies less today
That's because the style of play has changed they play closer to the table and force backhand rallies. Back then it was automatic that you step back after first stroke.
Man I wish today's top players showed at least a fraction of the emotion that Zhang Jike showed back then. Harimoto celebrates a lot of his points but he kinda overdoes it a bit and I think he does it more for the mental game.
Zhnag Jike's serve demolished Wang Liqin!!
Du bist richtig... WL konnte nicht mehr angreifen... Schade.
@@fernandoxislas Nix schade
この頃の声出してるzhang jike好き笑
at the 4th set and after zjk literally crushed wang liqin . the reverse serve and fast bh topspins were a huge pain for wang
Yep… but thats about age and condition.. first 3 sets all are equal, or Wang Liqin dominating.. but after you can see he just make errors.. if WLQ was in his prime he would literary sweep ZJK
It boggles mind to think what even more of a legend Wang would have been if his backhand were just a little bit more "modern"
TheVampB Yeah it’s a shame. He has a godly forehand though!
@@charliebaines5365 Godly is the word!
TheVampB Have you seen the fade forehand he did against timo ball where it swerved like crazy
@@charliebaines5365 The one that spinned outwards? That shot is part of the table tennis history now.
TheVampB Yh that’s the one! It was insane!
missing 2011 jhang ji ke
Jike in this tournament best the last 2 world champions in his first wttc, something which haven't been done before, while I do think Ma Long is greater, he didn't take his opportunities the first time, which is what I really think made Jike so likeable
Kevin,
Poor Ma Long being young and ran into his nemesis. If not, the Great Ma Long may have won 5 or 6 WTTC Singles. Ma Long usually came out on top against Zhang Jike.
@@benthekeeshond545 yes that is very true, but it's the same with Wang Hao, had he gotten his finals he would have been a triple grand slam, we can't say what if I ly what happened
@@benthekeeshond545 Both are great players and Ma Long regards ZJK as his sporting idol. ZJK was mentally strong for big stage and was undefeated at major stage from his first WTTC until his lost to Fang Bo in 2015 WTTC. That is incredible for a player who was only going through the maturation stage of his game. Ma Long on the other hand needed more time to mentally mature.
And would ML win the WTTC back then if he didn't play Wang Hao? I'm not so sure. Even when he didn't play Wang Hao in 2014 World Cup, he still lost to ZJK. I don't think ML would beat ZJK at world stage back then if he doesn't have the confident he has now.
Wang liqin loose like 6 points with zhang jike serve
dont hate the player hate the game
zjk clearly played better than wlq in this game and deserved to win. everything else is plain theory
Sad to see ZJK not playing anymore.
Has he finally quit?
Or he has not recovered from his injury?
@@agbajesamad9675 Nah he's done, his back got really bad.
Prime wang liqin would have won this one. Still very hard, but would have
"may have" not "would have" lol. ZJK is still a more complete player even when you compare him to prime Wang Liqin.
@@pham1020 ZJK is more complete but WLQ was true killer in prime and i think he could win
in this game ZJK 10 years younger and he born to this era (speed glue ban era), in the contrary WLQ was trying to adjust his play to this era after 30
when plastic balls appeared and ZJK could not adjust game and retired (maybe he was lazy to adjust)
Nah. Looks like a bad match up for Wang. He’s got no backhand playing against someone who is too consistent on backhand, without the weakness in his forehand. I bet ZJK would’ve gotten more wins regardless of era.

i am not gonna spoil the winner but the guy in black t-shirt won the whole tourament
Not a big Chinese player fan period, but I prefer Wang's generation of players any day. During some points of the match It almost looked to me like Wang deliberately threw the match.
Why not a big Chinese player fan? They're not white?
My comments have nothing to do with race or national only style of play and attitude of some players. I have nothing against chinese people as people.
Could be that some politics is involved
I think you haven't watched WLQ enough.A reverse serve to his forehand and a good bh would do the trick against WLQ, that's how Schlager beat him.
He was just past his prime and he cant competw in 4 sets.. he player first 2-3 good and later have even a serve miss.. he was old
abc超級大帥哥
why did zhang show us his shoes?
dfn58 not sure but i think it was sponser
Got his name on it
If only this was in 2000-2009, Liqin would've annihilated Jike.
+Joseph Garrett you cant tell for sure. they are players with different techniques. ma long xu xin wang hao zhang jike and other chinese youngsters have much more complete technique than wang liqin. wang almost never topspin with BH but has very steady block and spinny flick. he also dont have bh banana receive like the new players but his FH is very good. so its hard to say if he would beat any of them convincignly. after all zhang jike is the only player in history to win a world champ in his first participation
@@CL-sc8ou
Kong Linghui played like a sissy. Maybe a little better than the all-time sissy, Teng Yi. Have you seen Jiang Jia Liang or Guo Yue Hua? From the female side, Cao Yan Hua. They played the genuine TT, not the modified 40mm ball game.
Guess what? ZJK beat Wang Liqin in 2009 national league when he was only 19 yrs old. Take that, 19 yrs old ZJK beat prime Wang Liqin. No excuses lol
No, Zhang Jike serve and backhand were the reasons he won
@@pedrovoss7852 Same reason why Schlager beat him in 2003.

Wang's forehand is incredible
King off service ..king off backhand..zhang jike

from 2001 to 2011, either wang liqin won or those who beat him won
Wang is thinking Jike is a real Wang.

Prime Wang Liqin would literary destroy Zhang Jike

i hate this german comment xD
This match was so bad... WLQ was in one of his worst ever matches
Way past his prime.
i hate Zheng since this match
not becauce of his shouting , everybody just did the same
but his attitude
why you hate zhang ?
I agree. I've never liked him.
Jike is no gentleman at the table, he is boring to watch.
that is why I really enjoy the moments when Ma Long destroyed him😂
I mean jike is a gentleman, when FZD fell during a rally they played he went over to make sure he was alright, never seen another player do that
still think Wang liqin is better than Zhang jike if they are same age player. Wang's forehand is No.1 in the world, he has a nickname of "Da li" in Chinese TT Team.
BTW, Zhang jike's backhand is worse than younger player Fan zhengdong....
*****
No,even Chinese TT team coaches think Wang\s forehand is no.1 in the world. MALONG is also great but ...
Zhang is the big slam winner
and he is famous with his crazy spin in backhand bro
Zhang Jike is the fastest player of all time to win the grand Slam. I think thats pretty impressive. Wang Liquin won 3 World championship titles, Zhang already has two. You cannot say one player is better than the other if they were "the same age" because they have different playstyles. All you can say is that Zhang is superior to Wang Liquin at the time of the match, although Wang has now retired. He had a great career.
PingGSY
fair enough......
***** Indeed he is, but that does not make him the "better player". Ma Long didn't play in the Olympics because he was injured, not because he wasn't good enough. The point is, it takes a lot of courage and mental strength to win a world championships (the biggest event of all). Ma Long hasn't managed to do this as of yet, let alone a grand slam. He has the technical ability, but for him to even have a chance of winning such events he must get over his fear of playing Chinese players in the WTTC, Wang Hao being his biggest rival.
