I bought a JM Bloodgood last month and it's still holding all its leaves. It's in a large flower pot. Looks moderately healthy, except that the leaves were sunburnt probably last summer. Should I be worried? Zone 10. Thanks
I guess they still have leaves due to the warm weather in zone 10. Sunburn happens a lot and you don't have to worry too much about it except that you can't really enjoy the nice fall colors. I'm more worried if the tree can go into dormancy in winter.
According to the Mr. Maple brothers, its not advised to do any pruning in fall/winter. All heavy pruning should be done in Spring and then more can be done in mid-summer.
I’ve got a Japanese maple I want to do a pretty large trunk chop on. Would you two recommend I wait until spring right before the tree buds or can I get away with it right now? I plan on repotting and root pruning in the spring as well
Awesome video, thanks for sharing!
I love this tutorial thank you

It's okay to lightly prune JMs as they drop leaves/right after they drop leaves in fall :) it will help them to focus on buds/area for spring growth.
