Hello sir. I use the anfibio multi and I'm happy to see that it held up in this comparison. I have used many different machines for the past 45 years and, the multi is the best for depth. I'm hoping to purchase another one before they are all gone. Thanks for your video, I think you do a great job as always. Your passion and honesty seem very apparent
I have a Minelab Equinox 800 and I have found with the 10" coil in public parks dimes at over 12" depth and silver dimes even deeper. You just need to know your detector and know what is the best swing speed.
Great way to show the power of each machine. I am a single parent of 4 kids at home and looking to buy a detector. I have a cheap Amazon detector but want a better one within my budget. I have decided to buy the Simplex+, even though I had already made the decision prior. But you have concreted the decision for me. Thank you for this video, and all the others you post.
More than anything metal detecting is my mindfulness activity. Anything I find is a bonus. The simplex is spectacular! It is the most bang for your buck out there. It will pay for itself in a few months! I wish you the best of luck! Thank you for watching!
Nice one Merrill! With the CTX and etrac you could have used ferrous audio rather than conductive audio to take care of the "wild in the field" problem.
Merrill, you are the bomb. Your videos are the most entertaining, and educational videos on the net. It is easy to see, you must spent a lot of time making these videos, and I for one really appreciate it. Thank you!!!
Great review, Merrill. I own the Deus 2. I am deeply satisfied with it. My proof of it's performance is in all the silver I am pulling out of fields that have been hit hard with a Nox 800 and a Deus 1 for the last 18 months. These fields have been gridded multiple times and in different directions and are full of iron nails. The Deus 2 is still pulling coins out at depth. The Nox is a very, very good machine but unfortunately, my bum shoulder was the reason I went with the XP. Pricey? Yes, but shoulder surgery would be pricier if I continued to aggravate it with a heavy machine like the Nox. Everyone has their own checklist when it comes to purchasing merchandise. The Deus 2 price point is tough to swallow, but it checked almost all the boxes for me. And it will continue to get better as XP fine tunes things.
Interesting comment on your bum shoulder. I had a shoulder cuff injury and swing my Nox over the past year has given it loads more flexibility. Apart from that it's also delivered some awesome relics and hammerd's.👍
You raised the real question about value for money relating to detectors. I would raise another issue and that is build quality, especially relating to the nox. When you consider the cost of these units, you would expect the coil attachment point, the arm cuff and shift lock mechanism to be solid and robust. I see so many detectorists having to buy after market parts to reinforce minelad's design or replacing parts from other brands, simply because the nox appears to have some build design faults. This is not a rant against minelab as I have all minelab products, but the newer stuff appears to have dropped in but quality.......Your thoughts?
I don't have a nox, but it sure seems common among the nox youtubers for the battery / charging system to go wonky. As a Garrett user, it's all about the cracked coils. gotta be so careful around rocks. And a cracked coil can potentially fry the electronics... But they do have great customer service, they fixed my AT Max when I went through this, replacing the coil and board for free, despite it being a couple months past warranty.
i just watched your other video on beginner detectors and considering the simplex as my first ever purchase. i just now realized that it comes with multiple coil sizes in different options, which would you recommend for a beginner hunting parks and such?
Good video Merrill. You should leave that dime exactly where it is get out after a good rain and soil still wet. I'm thinking results may be different. It would be very interesting to see if soil conditions alone with no other variable changed dramatically changes the outcome.
Great vid dude! I love the fact that you used real world conditions for this test. Too often people set these detectors up to 'beep' on a target but there is no way you could hunt with them and the settings they have dialed up. Oh i miss my White's! trying to get a handle on the Vanquish 540. Definetely deep but they took the VDI section and halved it from what White's was displaying. I will get their. It only takes 1 gold ring to boost confidence. Take care Bro!
I get a repeatable signal of any kind I am digging just found a 57 Rosie with a 8 inch coil in iron and once in awhile the Omega 8000 was showing 82 , i dug 3 rotted iron nails and dime off to the side of the hole, but i knew it was there.

Only one comment I have really. Great job by the way. I do notice the machines with slower recovery(older in most cases) are not doing as good in this test. Hitting but not great. One mistake people often make is thinking lower reactivity is better for depth, and it is but ONLY in clean ground. Meaning no other targets within the coil width. This is pretty dirty ground so a lower recovery speed may not always be better. Targets may bleed into each other during your swing, as in before one target sounds off you're hitting the next which can corrupt the tones. I know the Legend may have been set too low for those conditions, the NOX I'm not sure about. The vanquish doesn't have recovery but it does have adjustable iron bias which may have helped it out. The D1 was sketchy with iron buzz but I don't know a lot about them and the D2 sounded bad up close and amazing far away which was weird. The older minelabs were mostly disappointing but I don't know much about those either. Now the problem with everything I said above is......while I'm sure some machines can be tuned in to hit a KNOWN target.......how will they fair if you just turn them on in a strange location with unknown targets in the ground? That's why I prefer most machines be tested in the stock modes first and then adjusted afterward. That way newbies know what they're getting and experienced hobbyists know what they're getting. Either way this was a great test.
My personal opinion, (which don't mean much) the Nox 800 is the best bang for my buck. If you are only going to have one, it will cover most of your bases. Thanks for the video...
You didn’t have the Garrett set up properly for a heavy iron area. Don’t discriminate any and turn iron off. Love watching this video. I learned some good stuff today.
It might have. But this is about relativity. How good was the response of the Garrett AT-Pro compared with the field. I am rooting for Garrett. Competition is a good thing. But the truth is that right now you are at a disadvantage with an AT-pro. It’s true that familiarity and experience with the machine is one of the most important factors but I would argue that ceiling is also. That machines ceiling is clearly lower than others tested here.
Very interesting test. As a metal detecting hobby goes for me, this test confirms what an outstanding value the Simplex represents. I'm impressed by what I've been seeing with the new Legend but, does it merit an extra $400? For my purposes it's a no. Then, considering that the Deus and Equinox are just out of the question. Again, for me this is just a hobby, I'm not looking to make money or create a new profession. This is kind of like comparing a $10 hammer to a $100 hammer.
Your logic makes sense. You can indeed be formidable at 250 dollars with the Simplex. The one area that I say you would be behind on with the simplex is saltwater beach. Otherwise it’s phenomenal.
The simplex definitely holds a candle to the advanced let alone intermediate catagory detectors (enjoying mine), that legend looks like it could go big with nokta making the right adjustments!
For me, I am a silver hunter mad man. I have a goal, find $200.00 face value in silver coins and I will pay anything for the best chance of finding silver coins. That said, I bought the Deus II and am finding silver coins (wheaties too) in places I have hunted before. The Deus II is great. I am 76 years old, so I don't have much metal detecting time left and I need to have the detector that will give me the best chance to reach my goal. I just hunt nickels, copper pennies, dimes, and quarters. Today I got three silver coins in parkways I've hunted before with my old detectors. Yesterday I got five silvers, four dimes and one quarter and eight wheat pennies, all in a park I've hunted before.
Merrill: i have a question for Philip the nox? i getting ready to build a test garden, how deep does phill put his coins in? i sure phill has one, i have unlimited space to build one. i dont want to make them too deep but i also want to make my detector work for some. also what coins should i put in it and what i should also put beside coins. i hoping to start this week end so it can be ready for testing this summer. for testing. i have nox 800 not planning on another just want to get the most out of the dector
I enjoyed the video. Great info. I am now in the process of buying a detector. The two that I had been looking at were the garrett ace 300 and the vanquish 440. What are your thoughts.
I would hold off and get the vanquish 540. I personally don't have a lot of cash and research like mad before a purchase. My last detector was a no namer foreign detector with a massive 14 inch coil and it actually worked brilliantly, but on getting the vanquish 540 I am finding far smaller targets. Actually the hardest part of using the vanquish 540 early on was thinking it was picking up false targets because I couldn't even see some of them. I am using vanquish with larger coil and on relic mode. I watch a lot of videos on detecting and obviously the pro people use the high end stuff but I have seen a lot of them give good reviews on the vanquish 540.
I do like your metal detecting videos mainly because in Cleveland all parks are loaded with modern and old trash so they hit home! Keep up the good work I'm learning how to use the Deus 2 in it now the Nox 800 was easier!
Good vid 👌, what is your general view on the vanquish. There seems to be a slight delay but I've heard that it's iron bias and depth it can achieve is pretty good. I'm torn between a vanquish and a legend. This is where awise mind like yours comes into play, which of them two would you recommend based on overall experience? Than you
Hello. Please help me decide between Nokta Legend LG30 and Garrett Apex Raider. So far it's 1:1(Estonia : England), you are the third, your tip will be decisive.
I use the vanquish 540 it's an amazing machine it'll even detect raw nuggets try that with the other metal detectors see if your other metal detectors will detect a gold nugget like the vanquish 540 the 540 also picks up larger targets up to 4 ft to 5 ft deep it's an amazing machine on jewelry mode
@@a-guitar2734 I would agree found that 7oz nugget in Alaska last year. I love mine have over 3000 hours on it. Just was using those as examples but the nox is a winner as well.
Great tests but the simplex in park modes respond better with a quicker swing due to the faster recovery speed, bet the simplex would’ve smacked it better with a faster tighter swing, the simplex competes with some of the best, sometimes outperforms in the right hands!
I didn't see it with the Nox. VDI s was showing iron I don't know how you had all the settings such as the tone and sen. I have the 800 and I think I said once before on another video the best depth I can get on a silver quarter here in Calif. we're I live is 5 to maybe 6" I have tried every thing I get better depth with my Whites Spectra V3I.I am impressed with the Deus 2 and the Legend.Do you think I might have better luck? I enjoy all your videos thanks.
Honestly, I buy and test metal detectors that I see being used by others on UA-cam and live in parks and beaches. I own one bounty hunter detector. They are very entry level. Other companies have moved in to simultaneous multi frequency (Minelab, Nokta, Garrett, XP). Even Fisher has made an advanced pulse device. Bounty Hunters would get obliterated. Please forgive my bluntness. I do not mean it to be rude. Their business model seems to be entry level detectors with entry level prices. This is all self bought so I have to draw the line somewhere.
Hi Merril, I got the Legend based on the rating you gave it on your website and I like it very much, Thank you for that. I also got my hands on a Manticore about 2 month ago based on the hype is it getting and so far I am not very impressed. I have not found anything over 6 inches deep with Manticore. I also do not see you using it on your videos very often anymore. Do you still think it is a great detector?
good video as a amateur metal detector I only have a couple of machines but I noticed that on one of the machines you used the setting was not optimized and on other you set them up better to succeed. The AT Pro for one can be set to eliminate the iron completely, I use this machine on very iron filled parks in Texas and if I am just looking for silver I have great success at up to 12 inches. Thanks for the demo though
There is a way to turn the iron audio off or notch it out on the AT Pro but it doesn’t get rid of the effects of iron . Soil affects depth but the AT pro will not come close to 12 inches on a dime sized target on an air test. I say this respectfully. Video responses are welcome and I am always humble enough to say I’m wrong!
Great vid Mate. I am looking to buy my first metal detector that I want to use for gold prospecting and treasure hunting. I have the opportunity to buy an X-Terra 705 for $169 or a Vanquish 440 for $349 here locally. What are your thoughts on that for a first detector? Regards, Jas.
Very nice test have you ever tried the Rutis Alter 71? I heard they were very deep detectors so I bought one with extra coils but have yet to even take it out of the box, busy with other projects.
Please can you show concretely buttons that must to use for determining depth of metal buried? And how this depth show in your detector, because you moves so fast ?!
That’s a very nice test because it is like 2 tests in 1: depth and iron masking. I’ve done similar tests like this and I want to do the same with Deus2..this is a pure iron masking test because ferrous and non ferrous are not at the same level as a simple separation test. Very good! 👍
The Deus 2 likes to be swung a little faster than one might expect. One thing I would also recommend is run in 5 tones keep your discrimination no higher than 6. I do 5.5 and it's an animal in iron. You can always adjust your lower tone break to 20 or 30 and set the frequency down to 100. It really makes a difference in iron infested areas. Another option for iron infested areas is to use relic program and set the IAR to 5. This will give a clear iron tone for the iron and a good pitch tone for the rest. Note this does not work well in non-ferrous trashy areas. Best for areas like your garden where it's mostly iron junk
I recently bought a vanquish 440 and I MD a plantation home close by. But the vanquish has problems with the old nails in the ground. Their are lots of them. They read the same as a penny. 19-20. Would the legend be a better detector for this place? I’m thinking on getting another one, what one would you recommend? The legend or the equinox?
I use a simplex. I live in an old farm house on a large old farm. I've found 2 silver coins so far both just like that. There are 30 nails/square inch in the yard so I dig any squeak. Really wanna upgrade to the legend but dunno if I can justify the investment.
In your humble opinion if the ctx the deals 2 and the nox800 were the same price what would your pick be overall...I can grab a ctx for like 1300 used can i only find new deus at 1500 and obviously the nox I can find cheaper but if price wasn't an issue which one would u recommend 🤔
What can you tell me about the garrett axiom. Which monelab would you compare it to. I've had the sd2300, gm1000, gpx5000, equinox 800, obviously it's a PI so I can only compare it to the sdc2300 so fat the axiom punches deeper and is better with hotrocks. I've heard it's up there with the gpx6000. How you can help with any input. I just bought the axiom Saturday
Hi Merrill. As a Simplex user my best, most productive searches - in fields and pastures - seem to be with Park1 and iron off as there's not a great density of targets/pollution where I go. It's slower recovery than Park2 which I'd use in trashy places or gardens to coin shoot. On the Park1 test you did, going on the VDI with iron on, I would not dig it: the low numbers would make me think it's iron. When you took off the iron the variable VDI would make me think it's foil left by farmers or hunters. However if I had a good-lock on the signal and not much going on I might dig but it would be 50-50 (depending on the patch beforehand). I think the Simplex is very capable having got hundreds of coins in 2 years, but now, although we don't have Mercury Dimes in France, I do wonder how many good targets I walked away from. P.S. Btw, I believe that it's only on all-metal (or beach?) mode that you need to ground balance and there's no Field 3.
Great video mate👍 will help people looking at buying their first metal detector🤗 see you on the next hunt💍👍

I would vote for the Vanquish. The multi frequency is an added bonus. Plus the sounds are little sweeter in my opinion
@@MD-NWWI thank you.
I appreciate that!
Hello which metal detectórs reacher depers than the equinox and anfibio multi thanks i wait your response
Deus 2 ever so slightly . I am looking in to pulse machines now . People swear they go deeper but I have to see for myself
@@MetalDetectingNYC thanks
Definitely love my vanquish, and you definitely get used to being able to hit Right on top of the targets.
i wish you use a atmax on your test . .....awesome test...
Me too. That is Garrett’s best machine I sense but I’ve never used one. I know people who won’t give it up.
Than you
What metal detector would you recommend for gold nuggets?
My ace 250 wil do 9.5 inches if you set it up properly but my cheapest amazon special will also do it but you have to set it up properly.
Hello. Please help me decide between Nokta Legend LG30 and Garrett Apex Raider. So far it's 1:1(Estonia : England), you are the third, your tip will be decisive.
For a beginner or part time hobbyist on a budget I always recommend the Nokta Simplex. Waterproof and a darn good machine.
What is suitable for searching for gold and gems? Please give an answer
Hi Merrill whats your thoughts on the bounty hunter tracker iv?
What would you recommend for my first budget-friendly metal detector new or used around 200 bucks if possible
I use the Vanquish 540 also.
Merrill, did you try the Vanquish 540 depth test in jewelry mode? I suspect that mode would detect the Mercury dime.
The gpx and the gold monster would crush the 540.
The nox 800 has a good gold mode. It matches of not surpasses the monster in mineralized gold field grounds
With the 6 inch coil
Could you test the tacklife mmd07
I just googled it. That is a small step up from being a toy metal detector. My first was similar.
Could you got the same for the BOUNTY HUNTER TRACKER IV metal detector please
Honestly, I buy and test metal detectors that I see being used by others on UA-cam and live in parks and beaches. I own one bounty hunter detector. They are very entry level. Other companies have moved in to simultaneous multi frequency (Minelab, Nokta, Garrett, XP). Even Fisher has made an advanced pulse device. Bounty Hunters would get obliterated. Please forgive my bluntness. I do not mean it to be rude. Their business model seems to be entry level detectors with entry level prices. This is all self bought so I have to draw the line somewhere.
Great testing. Thanks for sharing your info
You’re welcome
HAVE YOU TRY. Bounty Hunter Land Ranger Pro Metal Detector, 11 Inch Waterproof DD Search coil, I did not like my AT Pro.
Do you still think it is a great detector?
which detector is good for hidden treasure
Hey i have seen all your videos and they are great and honest.good job
Put cut a plug program in which is Andy's and do the cross checking method with Etrac
good video as a amateur metal detector I only have a couple of machines but I noticed that on one of the machines you used the setting was not optimized and on other you set them up better to succeed.
Great video. Kind of bummed though. I have a Safari and it didn't do so well. Does that mean it's probably obsolete?
Awesome Stuff Man.. Now I will be digging deeper targets with the Vanquish and 600... Take my chances and see if it brings me luck..
Especially that nox 600
I would like you pls.try titan ger 1000 coz its tooo expensive does it realy works exelent??? Pls show how it works.
That’s a very nice test because it is like 2 tests in 1: depth and iron masking. I’ve done similar tests like this and I want to do the same with Deus2..this is a pure iron masking test because ferrous and non ferrous are not at the same level as a simple separation test. Very good! 👍
Which machine does depth search in these
I thought that was interesting , but what frequency was you using on the machines ? That could make a difference in any machine.
XPD2, lots of potential.
I'm seeing same on swing speed of d2 to slow does what I just saw to worse
Thems some good advice. I concur
great comparison video, thanks Merrill
Thank you
I recently bought a vanquish 440 and I MD a plantation home close by. But the vanquish has problems with the old nails in the ground. Their are lots of them. They read the same as a penny. 19-20. Would the legend be a better detector for this place? I’m thinking on getting another one, what one would you recommend? The legend or the equinox?
How about Rutus alter 71or Atrex?
Great video. I've pulled a draped bust with the nox 600 at 13inches depth is big for me.
I use a simplex. I live in an old farm house on a large old farm. I've found 2 silver coins so far both just like that. There are 30 nails/square inch in the yard so I dig any squeak. Really wanna upgrade to the legend but dunno if I can justify the investment.
My full write ups on all machines are at www.iratemetaldetectors.com/
Nice vid I glad you did a dime and not a quarter.
Thank you
In your humble opinion if the ctx the deals 2 and the nox800 were the same price what would your pick be overall...I can grab a ctx for like 1300 used can i only find new deus at 1500 and obviously the nox I can find cheaper but if price wasn't an issue which one would u recommend 🤔
At that DEPTH it might be JUST a high harmonic with no VDI... BUT I WOULD NOTICE IT AND DIG
Merrill i was wondering do you find more rings in the dry sand or down lower in the wet sand?
Down in the wet. My beach tutorial will explain everything.
I just bought the axiom Saturday
hello mate i need to buyed wich one its best one please?
I'm thinking if a Garrett AT Max would pass the test?
As always very informative video and tests. Thank you for your efforts
Merle I would like to know what firm where are you running in the Symplex plus
I updated it in December 2021 to the latest version (at least as of then)
Did you check the soil to get a baseline before you covered the coin ?
i need to buy which one best??
friend the Minelab Vanquish 540 how many frequencies transmits??????
