POTA Revisited

- I first tried POTA around a year and a half ago. Since then POTA has grown significantly in popularity in this region.
I decided to visit a local park to give it another go.
Filmed at Moulden Hill Country Park, POTA reference G-0538.
EDIT:- The organisers of the POTA scheme have made some changes to the park reference numbers since this video was filmed. The reference for this park has now changed to GB-0538.
If you want to help support the channel you can now "buy me a coffee" using the link below:-

All funds raised will be put back into the channel (upgrading camera/audio equipment, travel costs to film content etc) - Наука та технологія
Very well done James. Yes people actually want to chase POTA now.
POTA ON!
Great video James good to see you out POTAble. 😊 73
Thanks Motters. It made a bit of a change from SOTA.
10m on POTA is fantastic. Remember to work low down on the band to work around the licence conditions over there. Thanks for a great little vid James.
Fair point, I forget that some classes of licence can't access the full band in the USA. I need to have a read up to figure out where most stations are allowed to operate!
Nice video James, a great selection of contacts. 🙏
Thanks Duncan.
If people have time to sit out at a park for hours during the weekend, good for them. As long as you get your 10 contacts + a few more it’s all good. I don’t have hours to sit around in parks on the weekend, nor during the week when I work. When the return calls stop coming in, I pack up. I got loads of stuff to do on my weekends usually. Have fun & POTA ON! 73!
Each to their own I guess.
When I do SOTA I normally keep going until the pileup ends & there's no more callers.
I generally do 40m for the local inter-G crowd and one higher band (if conditions are good I might do two higher bands) for the longer skip/DX.
In reality that typically means that I'm there for about an hour or so.
I'll probably take a similar approach to POTA activations.
Good video James and nice run of contacts for a weekday. If propagation is good you’ll have a blast on your upcoming 10m FM event. I must congratulate you on your video editing skills to get the length of this video spot on 😉 Speak soon. 73 Chris M0RSF
Thanks Chris, although I have to confess that my editing skills weren't that great because I managed to accidently release to video before I had uploaded the thumbnail or typed the description.
I thought I had uploaded it as pri ate with a. view to doing the thumbnail & description the following morning.
I only realised my blunder when I received a message on one of the UA-camr's WhatsApp groups asking me what camera I had used to get the wide angle shot in the car!
Had to throw together the thumbnail & description at around 4am this morning before going into work!
Really looking forward to the "Ten On 10 FM" event, although I really should do something about publicising that!
Thanks for the upload James, I need to get out and about this year, just need to sort a battery pack out. I'm guessing this is Lydiard? BTW, what's that monstrosity you have up at the moment? 😉
Hi Matt. Not Lydiard (I haven't activated that one yet). This was filmed at Moulden Hill Country Park.
I presume you mean the antenna at my home QTH? That is an Ultrabeam UB640-VL1.1
It's basically a rotary dipole covering from 6m down to 40m.
Nice one James. What logging software are you runing ?
Think James is using HAMRS 👍🏽
Yep. HAMRS on an Android tablet (I think it's also available on IOS). There's also a Windows version which I have on my laptop.
