Yes, they were nothing to do with either murder. This case is a good example for not reading too much into a nothing witness sighting. Nick even begins the reconstruction for Joe Rylatt saying two small time robbers have been responsible for now 2 deaths, which was actually nonsense and not the truth at all.

They only used to show crimes they couldn't solve, but nowadays those crimes would have been solved quickly. Yes they do (or did). Years ago a mate of mine was walking past and asked to participate by a copper out in the street looking for people to make up the numbers. Got paid a tenner for his trouble so he told me.
Many years ago I was out shopping and a policeman stopped me to ask if I’d participate in an I.D parade. I took part and was given £10 for taking part.
My mate used to live a few doors down from Dennis as a kid and used to upset him. I worked next doors to SHE at CV Units. My mate found the axe with a metal detector on the island. Lincoln was small back then. Dennis always had jogging suits on as far as I remember but it was years ago.
I worked with a guy who said his brother found it on the island, same guy said he was pulled in for questioning as he was known at the time for break ins.

It was a chap called Andy scruton who told me the story about his brother finding the axe, said something about them going out on a boat to it. Not sure what his brothers name is, I was only about 4 when all this happened.

Honestly it is confusing because Crime Watch put so much emphasis on the two reportedly running away that they believed were the murderers, but they weren't. They didn't have anything to do with it, and a lot of people who reported seeing them really didn't, they just wanted to help. Smalley did both murders alone.
Crimewatch just reported on things that people witnessed at the time.....these people are often completely unconnected to the crime but are shown anyway.
Considering the axe used was the murder weapon that killed them both, the only way for you to be correct would be if it was used to murder Fred, then someone else had the axe and just happened to murder Joe/Allen with it. Personally, I think he was probably guilty, but I don't think they had enough evidence to prove it.

Back in those day's it was differcult for the public to say the police were corrupt or wrong ...nowadays it is common knowledge .The death penalty was ended because the police got people guilty who were innocent. 😁

I don't think the man they convicted is the guilty person in all the Death's .

It was SHE. Special Heat Exchanges. Freemen Road, North Hykeham. Still in business. I think they used the paint there and it was made somewhere else.
