Sir, greetings from Pakistan. Yourself are absolutely right. It was a huge hit in the mid-1990s, probably the biggest hit of the year. Coke studio covered it many years later in its season 12. That was typical Abrar-ul-Haq. The original hit is much more popish and much faster. That was the first ever hit by Abrar-ul-Haq and today he has attained a legendary status. Sir, the reactions were fantastic as always. Loved it. Even though I have listened to this song thousands of time yet while watching with yourself it felt so fresh with your presence and the excitement level at its peak. It was probably the most rhythmic song of season 12, which otherwise was quite mellow but great. I can only salute you for completing nine out of 15 coke studio seasons. It is a remarkable effort with tremendous amount of consistency. Praying for your long life, sound health and huge success in whatever you do. With warm personal regards.
This song ruled the Pakistani music scene in the 90s. It was playing on every street corner, stores, restaurants, barber shops, random houses, the television. It was everywhere. They gave us an updated version of that sensation with this and they didn't touch anything about the lyrics which was great.
I was born in 93, grew up in the U.S., my parents finally got the Pakistani tv channels in like 2004 thereabouts, and Billo was STILL popular. that's how i first heard it and I loved it, along with Preeto which was Abrar-ul-haq's other fboy anthem. This version honestly feels a little meh, even though everyone's doing their best. the old one is definitely a bit dated, but it feels fun, and the music video looks like it was made for about $2 and is green toned.
He represents the classic Punjabi Romeo: young, romantic, slightly delusional 😂 The beat represents the sound of a classic train as it chuffs along, with Billo's suitor on board, inviting all and sundry to join the wedding party. This song caused quite a ruckus when it was first released. Billo is a common nickname in Punjabi households, and people all over Pakistan were mortified to have their daughters' names in a song about people standing in line to "visit". The matter was even debated in the National Assembly of Pakistan, and the song was subsequently banned.
Haha love that song Abrar-ul-Haq always produces songs like that, his songs are always uplifting ,witty and funny at the same time you can dance anytime whenever you heard his voice,I can’t give you examples regarding English songs or singers bcz my knowledge of music is not vast like you but if you remember the song “ Macarena” by los del rio was similar track like this one funny and catchy at the same time😊
