Duplicating Any Item in Gothic 1

- I once saw this in another video (that I can't find again) and somehow believed it to be a trick that only works with Systempack, because the other guy used a quicksave in it and didn't think more about it.
Today I tried to remember it or find the video, but couldn't, so I tried in Gothic 1 with SystemPack 1.8 (standard Steam version) for like 2 hours until I found how to do it (or maybe it is a different method than the one I saw before?). Then I tried it again with my usual Gothic 1 folder and it worked just fine.
I also tested in original Gothic without Systempack or Union.
The method:
- Trade the item to be duplicated to a trader
- Beat him up
- Open his inventory
- Close it with B (status screen)
- Repeat that a few times
- Open your own inventory and close it
- Now save the game
- Open your inventory and go all the way to the left to move the item over into yours
- Close your inventory
- Open the trader's inventory again and move the item to your side again - Ігри

Amazing that this game still has secrets to be discovered.
It's 2023, and players are still finding new exploits in a 22 y.o game.

Dude, this game is a mess as functionality, i tried to play it without exploiting bugs, but its really impossible, you find bugs everywhere, and sooner or later you would want to exploit some of them. You can literary jump over the wall to the orc city in chapter one, without exploiting anything, and get the strongest weapon in the first hour of gameplay. Speedruns on this game are really funny to watch.
Don't get me rong, the team on this game really worked hard for this one, but this is the result when you spend 4 years to develop the game in an engine created by themselves, and they did not had time anymore to test it

not long ago played gothic 3 and got recommended a video about gothic 1, saw that its on sale on steam and bought it. It was more fun than gothic 3 xd
yeah Gothic 3 is the worst Gothic game for me, I definitely recommend buying Gothic 2 as it is better version of G1, also nearly all Gothic mod developers make mods on G2 so you won't run out of things to do in the game, there is also Archolos, a giant mod for G2 that is whole another story on the same engine, story takes around 70 hours (I have finished the modtwice and have 140 hours on it, and I still haven't done everything) and it's free if you own G2.
Used to this so much as a child that I believed it to be the intended way to play the game, though blame my brothers for that, + I was 6 years old.
In the very early, unpatched retail build of Gothic 1 at least, this was much simpler, as you could just beat up people, put your items in them by reverse looting them, waiting for them to get back up and then beat them up again, but I never thought this was going to be possible after any of the patches applied, let alone System Pack 1.8.
TL;DR Yes, it works on the very OG Gothic.
I know in version 1.07c you could duplicate items by moving them to a knocked down NPC's inventory. But you needed at least two on a stack and then they'd become like 10 the first time you moved them and then like 4000 the next time you moved those 10 back and forth, which is why they blocked moving stuff to NPCs in 1.08.
@@LordSaradoc 1.08? Huh, thank you for telling me that, I never knew what patch precisely it was where they patched out the exploit. Excuse my cloudy memory, I was 6 - 7 years old and for some reason I remember it as only increasing items times 2. Looks like it was something more specific than just the position of bits moving to the left lol

Do you know a place where "Duplicate Item" would speed up the speedrun? I can't think of a spot right away. Maybe end up killing the Guardians faster?
You can skip going to the Old Mine and get the 2 Minecrawler eggs from the Sleeper's Templer instead and duplicate one to save a few minutes in All Chapters.
great job on how to do it? would you count it as major glitch? I'm thinking what use could this method be in some speedruns

Amazing, have not heard of this exploit before. Just if there was a category without all the quitouts the speedrun of this game would be so much fun :(

I only knew about multiplying meat at the frying pan.
Would love such exploit in G2 NotR more than G1 which is already too easy...
Most likely doesn't exist, release build G1 was horrifically broken (the above-described Item duplication, but also blocking mid-air to fall infinite distances without taking fall damage, etc.) All of which are exploits that weren't present when G2 came out.
