The imps are a hellborn species. Sinners manifest in hell in a form that reflects their life and death, so it's very individual. But there's also several hellborn species like hellhound, imps and succubi ect. In this show almost all the characters except the clients are hellborn
I think imps might actually be in the Bible and that's just blowing my mind.
Hellborn are created species - the seven sins, the princes of Hell, made them. Hellhounds (like Loona,) were made by Beelzebub, Princess of Gluttony, Imps (like Millie, Moxie, and Blitzø,) were made by Satan, prince of Wrath. Stolas is one of the Goetia, the "nobility" of Hell, and also hellborn. The King of Hell is Lucifer, prince of Pride and way too depressed for his own good.
Hint at almost because I don't know if it's been conformed yet, but given the designs of tge seraphim and other angels in heaven we see in a couple episodes of Hazbin Hotel, there's a running theory that Solas, Stella and other Goetia are fallen angels like lucifer.

Stolas has baby pictures on the walls of his palace and Octavia, too, and there’s the picture of Stella as a young, terrifying pea chick. They were born in Hell. Ozzie says he’s known Mammon since Hell began. Only Lucifer has angelic wings and an angelic power set, and he’s in a category by himself.

While “demons” are in the Bible, “imps” are a later thing- a mix of European folklore, where they are mischievous sprites, with the understanding that the devil has underlings = (definitely not official) Christian legends.
The main cast are Imps. They are hellborn. (They are born in hell. Like Charlie) The clients are human sinners.
Sinners are retricted to the first ring of hell, Pride, while the hellborn can move throughout hell freely.

This show is character driven and I think you will absolutely love it! This show has more spice in the dialogue than Hazbin and I'm all here for it.

In case you missed it, the "hero" was acting as a honey trap which is why she had such an exaggerated design with the curves. Her entire family were cannibals and it was her job to get the groceries so to speak. Which makes the teaches acts all the more ironic if you think about it. If she had listen to her student and went back to teaching her class chances are that the lady would have taken the teacher's husband home with her and done far worse things to him than the teacher could even imagine.

Fun thing about this series is that there are lots of details in the background that tell as much of a story as the characters, like how the background of the family's home tells you that they were cannibals the whole time
After watching Hazbin Hotel, now I wonder… would this family end up in Cannibal Town? It’s not exactly their “style” (in a fashion sense) but they well, are cannibals! Lol
@@Fernandanatacoh yeah personally I think they'd fit right in. Outside of being violent cannibals they seemed to live an otherwise peaceful lifestyle. I think they'd get right along with those in cannibaltown, who also enjoy a peaceful lifestyles but go on murderous cannibalistic rampages.
Fun Fact: The sinners' appearence in hell is based on the way they lived and died. Basically their lifestyles, sins and what ended up causing their demise.

@SilverScribe85 I'm guessing If All sinners take on aspects of their own Life and death, she was the cause of her own death so she looks like a hellish version of herself; the severity and number of sins committed might also have an effect on how 'monsterous' your transformation becomes. It may be that with less outside factors impacting on her sin, she came back with a more 'standard' look; the show implies that up until that point she had lived as a 'good' citizen and had played by the rules, was loved by her students as a teacher etc

It is beautiful seeing trees lined up like that down both sides of a road. Shows that someone made an investment in planting them knowing full well that it would take decades for them to reach magnificence. Would love to have a driveway like that one day.
I’m a bit of a weird tree hugger, and this line was so endearing ❤ (but like not in a creepy way, I just want more trees planted everywhere because they can literally help save humanity by creating water and carbon sequestering, but again, I’m a weird tree hugger ish)

The emphasis is the A_AB because there are many canon trans imps in the series, and the horn differential is the give-away for the trans representation

This show is an absolute ride. Not necessarily in a bad way, just like a rollercoaster with countless jolts, twists, and the occasional musical number. There’s so much lore in it to flesh out the hellaverse, as well. (In regards to Moxxie’s legs, though both his parents are imps (a Hellborn demon species), his mom had the bent legs, and Moxxie retained that attribute).

Since no one’s mentioned it and you remarked on Stolas having a new VA, he’s Bryce Pinkham, a Broadway performer with a serious set of pipes. His singing is a delight. As for the bleeping: usually when VAs do bleeped language, they do gibberish, because it’s going to be bleeped anyway. Pinkham did a three minute tirade in character of all the naughty things he was going to do to Blitz and the reverse. Viv and the others jaws dropped. It truly did ALL have to be bleeped except for “jelly sandwiches all night.”
Demon hitmen that go to Earth to assassinate humans for their clients is an interesting concept.

Hey Matt, one thing that I took a long time to realize and that I missed while watching Helluva is the fact that Imps are the lowest class of demons, only above hellhounds. This appears in the dynamic all the main characters have along the show, especially on the relationship Blitz has with Stolas
There's some fanmade headcanons that say Blitzo is partly succubus, Moxxie is partly Greed imp, and Millie is full-blooded Wrath imp, to answer the bodyshape question. I don't think there's been any official reasons given.
Yeah, there's just a lot of bodyshape diversity among imps.
Brandon actually said that Blitz is fully imp during his Instagram live Thursday morning.
Just a few details the show doesn't exactly tell you.
The teacher lady doesn't look like Moxxie, Millie, or Blitzø because they're Imps and she's a Sinner. It really doesn't affect anything but the hell in this show is the same exact hell as the one in Hazbin Hotel, or at least the hell from Hazbin's pilot.
Imps pretty much come in all shapes and sizes. Some are tall, some are small and their features are pretty much random as fas as I can tell. The only feature that stayes the same is that male Imps have the striped and curved horns while females have straighter black horns. There are a few more hellborn species, Hell Hounds for example.
They told us at a recent con that even tho Stolas is censored he is actually saying THEE MOST FILTHY SHIT under those beeps and Richard and Viv were in the studio listening to him just jaw hanging open like OMFG JELLY SANDWICHES?!? and there IS a copy of everything filthy thing Stolas says uncensored recorded. We all want the Stolas Edit. 🎉

The first episode is good, and they only get better from here. Because of how they've been released, animation quality noticeably jumps almost every episode too. The VAs are great, the music is great, the animation is wild, and you can see how much love and attention goes into all of it :D
It's a show that's going to reward your style of reacting as well, there's a LOT of detail hidden in backgrounds, and things that they've included that you CAN'T notice until a rewatch when you have context.

This show is actually really great at having details in the background, and it’s awesome when people pick up on them!! So pausing is awesome and welcomed, at least to me! I have a LONG comment incoming without spoilers that answers some questions but understandable if you don’t read this chunk of text lol
The power scaling in Hell goes like this:
1. Lucifer
2. Charlie + Lilith
3. 7 Sins (except one, bc Lucifer represents pride)
4. Ars Goetia (Hellborn royalty)
5. Overlords (powerful sinners who own many souls)
6. Sinners (humans who died and went to hell)
7. Succubi, Imps, Hellhounds (hellborn species. it’s not exactly clear iirc, but Succubi seem to be on a higher class than imps and hellhounds seem to be the lowest, but they’re all around the same)
The main cast of Helluva Boss are imps. Many imps have red skin and seem to have lizard and goat aspects. There are also other animal traits we’ve seen (like sharks) but the main cast have red skin. Stolas is a Prince of the Ars Goetia. Hellborn (imps, hellhounds, ars goetia, etc) can travel across all 7 rings of Hell, and each ring represents a different sin.
Hazbin Hotel takes place in the Pride Ring, which Lucifer rules over, as well as being the king of Hell. Sinners only exist in the Pride Ring and can’t travel across rings, so the I.M.P. office takes place in Imp City of the Pride Ring. The purple client in this episode is a Sinner, like Angel Dust, Sir Pentious, and Alastor, so she looks different.
To cover all my bases, I’m honestly not sure if it’s ever been stated what ring Stolas lives in. We know the history of some of the other characters though! Can’t wait for this journey, I absolutely love this show just as much as Hazbin!!
I think with point 7. Imps are the lowest of the low. Hellhounds are above them but not by much. And then you got stuff like the succubi

Since imps have such consistent features like the hair and horns that pertain to an imps born sex- the legs are more similar to a humans different genetics- like blue eyes or brown hair. So Millie with the straight legs vs moxie with goat legs- it is likely due to family genetics. It’s helps add to the visuals of each imp to separate them

I love the fact that when ppl reach for some kind of “canon” resource to use in understanding Hazbin Hotel or Helluva Boss, they use the Bible. I mean, they’re not wrong- the Hellaverse is basically a bizarre AU Bible fanfiction. But it still cracks me up. I like to imagine some atheist thumping down the Bible as proof of his fan theory, flipping it open and crying triumphantly, “According to the original source~!”

Also in regards to the imps. Moxie is from the greed ring, Millie is from Wrath?, and we suspect Blitz is from pride, or wrath? but from significantly different communities from Millie if it's Wrath. And because of being innately from one ring, or another, they have different physiology.

The three of them are from different circles of hell, maybe that can account for the differences. Moxie is from Greed and Millie is from Wrath for example.

4:31 I took a history class on Renaissance architecture years back. It's been awhile so I don't remember much, but a term I do remember is allée. An allée is exactly that, a path or road lined with trees or bushes. A few years back I visited Ireland with friends and one of the tours we took brought us to an allée that was a shooting location in Game of Thrones. A road flowing straight over hilly terrain, lined with huuuuge gnarled twisting trees and dividing two grazing pastures.
Allée is the word you want if you want to look at a bunch of cool pictures

Mayberry is a sinner just like those in Hazbin Hotel series. So they naturally look different even from each other. Blitz and his employees are hellborn with Luna being a hellhound and them being imps. Hellborns can travel through rings and some have access to human world with special devices for it. Sinners stay only in the Pride ring because pride was the first sin (Lucifer). So I.M.P. is in Pride ring because that's what their job is about - sinners are their clients.
And you can see differences between rings because each have their colors:
Pride - red
Wrath - orange
Gluttony - yellow
Greed - green
Envy - blue
Sloth - pink
Lust - purple

It's funny you mention the differences between imps. M&M are both from the wrath ring, which is western themed, and I think Blitzø is from greed which is mafia themed. It might determine the specifics on what kind of imps they are!

Also, little bonus fact: Mrs Mayberry is voiced by former child star Mara Wilson. Blew me away a bit when I found out.
The reason why Mrs Maeberry looks different from Moxxie, Millie, etc is because she's a Sinner Demon (a human that died and went to Hell) and thus gets her own unique design, whereas Moxxie, Millie and Blitzo are Imps, one of the many Hellborn Demon Species (others Hellborn species include: Hellhounds, Succubi/Inccubi, the Sins, etc)
Sinner's are also practically immortal (they don't age and simply regenerate/respawn if they get hurt/killed in Hell, unless it is done by angelic weapons as seen in the Exterminations in Hazbin Hotel) while Hellborns do have regular lifespans as far as we know and do age and can be hurt or killed without regenerating or respawning (fun fact: white patches of skin on imps implies scar tissue; they can't regenerate but they can obviously heal if their wounds aren't too extensive)

In Hell, just on the circle of Pride (where Pentagram City is located, where Charlie and the Hotel are also located), sinners live. Also among the sinners live creatures from Hell itself, born on other circles. These can be Imps (Blitz, Moxie, Millie), Hell Hounds (Luna), and many other creatures like succubi/incubi, fish creatures, and others.
Stolas (that Prince Owl) is also a creature born in Hell. He is even related to the Demons of Goetia (you can find them online, in the Little Key of Solomon), and these demons come in power right after the 7 deadly sins.
Imps and Hellhounds are at the very bottom

Some examples Hell-born are imps (Blitz, Millie, Moxie), Hellhounds (Loona) and goetias (stolas, stella).
The key difference is that hellborn were not born and usually can't enter the living world, the sinners all lived on earth and got to hell after they died.

I could be wrong but generally IMPS appearance is difference from individual to individual but there are usually certain traits that link them to one of the rings/ aka are they from Lust/pride/gluttony etc so each will have a certain look to them and Millie and Moxie are not from the same ring so I guess that also plays a part on why their legs are different shapes etc. but Yes they are such a sweet couple and Always love to see their relationship

Hazbin hotel, focused entirely in the pride ring of hell.
Because that is the only ring that Sinners are allowed to reside.
They are not allowed to venture to any other ring of hell.
(I think it’s supposed to be so that the exterminations are more focused and easier to implement)
Imp city is another place in the Pride ring, because blitz job is to take hits from sinners.
But Imps, hell hounds, and a lot of the other characters that will be introduced in Helluva boss, are not Sinners but actual residence of hell.
Also, this is a small bit of a spoiler. You will eventually be introduced to a character that is the literal embodiment of lust, and he is proof more than before that Valentino is just a pale poser in comparison.

The woman is a Sinner, not going to transition into anything, that is her Hell-body. Like how Sir Pentious had a look in Hell and it turned different in Heaven - for some reason not into a winged version of whatever he looked like as a human, but his hellish, snake form just white and gold XD

My headcannon is that Martha and at least her husband made some form of deal with a demon, and they thought the team was collecting their souls for that reason.

It's definitely rougher around the edges than Hazbin, but the characters are very layered which you'll see throughout the show! If you found the Pilot and the first episode great, you're definitely gonna have fun with the rest of the series so far!

I’m pretty sure Martha is basically a black widow, but her husband is supporting her, because cannibals, and so she brings the kills home.
Sinners tend to have unique looks that are related somehow to how they died or what they did to be sent to hell. After a bit it gets easy to tell at a glance whether a demon is a sinner or hellborn, even if you haven't seen anyone like them before. (Which is some impressive design skill right there.)

I've seen a fan theory that the weird evil religion thing the murder family is into will become relevant in season 2 of Hazbin Hotel. Intriguing if true.
no spoilers this is the heirarchy if hell top to bottom. lucifer, lillith and charlie, the seven deadly sins like mammon and Asmodeus, the ars goetia like paimon and stolas, then the overloards like alastor, then the sinners like angel dust, then the hellborn like the succubus Verosika, then imps and hellhounds like luna and blitz at the very bottom

Lots of people here already explained that they’re imps, a hellborn species, but about their different features… well, it seems that every hellborn species is native to one of the rings. Imps are native to the Wrath ring.
Succubi and Inccubi are native to the Lust ring.
There’s a species of clown demon from the Greed Ring.
Hellhounds are native to the Gluttony ring.
And there’s a species of goat demon from the Sloth ring.
The things is… these species can crossbreed!
Milly seems to be a “pure” imp. They’re mostly short, red, have yellow eyes, pointy tail, and human-like legs. Females have black hair and black horns with very thin stripes. Males have white hair and horns with thick black and white stripes. Horn size and shape vary widely, regardless of sex.
Blitzo is taller than the average imp and (due to the his mother’s appearance) lots of people theorize that he may have some succubi mix in his family tree.
Moxies inherited his goat-like legs from his mother. Which leads me to believe they have some mix with the goat demons from the sloth ring.
After some episodes you’ll see an imp that looks very confusing… he’s super tall and doesn’t have red skin, besides other different details. He looks to be REALLY mixed in my opinion, but I can’t pinpoint with what.
Moxxies Mom is from Wrath so she's still an imp.
