I have been watching this video over 50th times. At the first time when Im watching this one , I couldnt understand well. But now I can understand better than before. I still dont get some part, but I ll keep watching it. And the part I most like is when she said " The beautiful thing about learning is that nobody cant take that from away you" I m struggling to study English everyday. I ll not give up when Im learning something, I ll make it mine.
Wish all the speakers are as natural as Oprah. Gosh she's so good to watch and listen at. Exceptional extemporaneous speech. She's a living legend. Thank you for the wisdom Oprah.
She reminds me of my supervisor at BCDC. Incredibly insightful, brilliant and down to earth. It's rare to work with folks like that, but when you do it changes your life.
I totally agree with you! I thought i was being overly sensitive when i cried listening to her speech but it's Oprah's inspirational and words of encouragement that made me teared. She IS such an amazing, AMAZING woman. I wish i could meet and sit down and talk to her. She is such a wise person...
she's my role model, she just knows what to say,she is not reading from the booknlike majority of popular people, she just speaks from d heart.you are the bomb!!oprah!!
you r really amazing women, i wish i could see u in person to say thank you for ur amazing words, it was not only for them, its actulay for every body. Thank u
The best advice ever!! Love the advice about following our feelings, and "getting still" when in doubt. Also love her episode about getting fired from a job for being "too emotional," and yet becoming one of the most successful women ever.
Oprah you’re my IDOL! You’re an example of an ultimate human kindness! I adore you so much that my dream is to meet you one day! May God always bless you with good health and always keep you safe!
Oprah, She So strong So power and So Beautiful mind for everybody...i like you so much. you make Commitment to success and happiness. Thank you... Oprah Winfrey
Oprah is a wonderful person who has done well in her life and is amazing at caring for others .Bravo ..Helping others do help ourselves ..Its great she does it from the heart
omg i was there! my cousin was graduatng! it was such a cool time and i want to go to stanford university like her. she inspires me like oprah does to others. my cousin was on tv for being the only person from her school to go to Stanford. go hispanic pride!
She is enlightening. I did not have the same type of guidance as Oprah but everything is coming into everything. I am en route to being the next millionaire. Thanks for sharing your wisdom O....!
You explained this really well! 😄 Thanks for the great points about how the simplest things is what impacts people the most! I'll remember this for next time!
i am so glad she spoke to the school. i'm glad she admitted to crying. despite all of her name dropping and quoting, she is a real person. we all do that. we all learn. we are all fallible. even oprah.
q palabras tan emotivas e inspiradoras q ella dice, hace que tu reflexiones y pienses sobre errores q pueden ser facilmente solucionados, que chevere persona es ella, es una entre un millon
Big Fan of Oprah. I think its very cool someone finally wrote this book. "You Have A College Degree, Now What?" was released last month. Spotted it on Amazon.
I will keep this commencement address for good , I think it actually helped me a lot. Especially, I got stock with my MBA program. I thought I gonna finish this semester first and travel alone to meet different people. I thought live ar the present and find the joy of your life matters more than getting that dipoma on time.
I am a sixty year old U.S.C., U.C.L.A. graduate. I listen to this speech often and I learn something new from one of the most successful black women in history. I remember from my speech classes before many of you were born, the first part of a speech is to get peoples attention, usually with comedy. It is appropiate to focus on Kirby because she is a 2008 Standford graduate and Oprah godchild. I find what Oprah said relative funny. I mean "sort of." Who just "sort of" know Oprah
James you should be so lucky. Sir an education from this school is excellent! May I suggest Hal Urban. The author's book is truly inspirational. James once you read it. Surely you will understand that life has many lessons attached to it. I learned much from this book. As Oprah mentioned we live in the "me" generation. You can share your talents in so many ways with society. Truly if you can survive this school. Your skill sets and education can be of much value to all! Good luck.
I personally don't care if she talked about Kirby that much because I don't live in a perfect world where celebrities don't get extra recognition. I am a huuuuge fan of Oprah because of her wonderful and generous spirit and would have been honored just to have her share her wisdom with me.
Wow, How Powerful and Sweet message it is! i agree many parts. (charity mind often makes you feel HAPPY and STRONG. does*t it?) Thank you for sharing this to us!
14:14 When you are doing the work you meant to do: It feel right and every days feels like a bonus regardless of what you are being payed. Wissest words 👏👏👏👏👏👌👌👌👌
love u oprah.........simply awesome...............hope i was there........i would have taken admission in stanfords had i known u will be the commencement speaker.......lolzzzzzz
If I remember correctly from forty years ago when I studied speech, the first part of a speech is to get peoples attention. Its appropriate to talk about Curby since she is a graduate of the class 2008. OPRAH business is talking, although how elegant. Have you notice that most commencement speakers are wealthy and heavy philantropists. Its expensive to attend Stanford, however , Oprah probably have made contributions to help maintain the status of that University.
BEcause she is successful and not average...Every person strives to be successful, thats part of living....She has accomplished her goals, and the low to middle class obviously havent...Shes teaching the students how to be successful, so dont criticize her just cause shes living her dreams....
@rokyourbody She mentions Kirby to show she has a personal connection with the graduates , to show this isn't just a throw away speech , that it means something to her , it was entirely relevant to open the speech that way.
Wow, so many cynical replies to this speech I've read so far. It just appears to me that someone who can be cynical about such an inspiring, goodhearted and valuable speech is exactly the same person who should take notice from it's content most. Oprah Winfrey is so inspirational, god bless her :-)
@Vivamamaafrika This isn't a competition. I'm going to watch Jobs' one in a minute, but Oprah's really spoke to me. I found it very enlightening and wise. You can tell she's been there and seen it.
The purpose of a commencemennt speech is to impart knowledge to graduates of one"s personal challenges of becoming sucessful in life. If you listen to Steve Job commencement speech , which I enjoyed, he talks about his life from birtth to present. If you are talking about your successful life, the only pronoun you can use is "I". Be Open To The Lessons
Congrats to Stanford '08!! I was initially really disappointed when I heard that Oprah was speaking, because I am not at ALL a fan of hers. However, I must admit that she was *far* more interesting - and particularly more genuine and down-to-earth - than I had ever observed her to be. Best of all, she didn't tarnish the ceremony by pushing her political beliefs - woohoo! :) I still think that most male Stanford students would have preferred someone else, but Oprah was suprisingly decent.
@alz123alz what do you mean "sort off" i graduated in 2007 AND SO???? are you giving a back handed complement if so.... Please take it back and appreciate Oprah is an inspiration to all regardless of colour!
congratulations I listen to many of your speeches, discussions, debates, and talks, in which I found that most of the conclusions were unrelated to the clear, direct and simple observations that you used as verifications. Good day
Im a graduate too, trying to figure out what to do with the rest of my life. This speech just put everything into perspective! Although I wish I would have got an Eckhart Tolle book at my graduation day too, his books are life-changing!
Whenever you are unsure of yourself, connect to UA-cam and watch this video.

An awesome speech, indeed. Absolutely empowering.

Yes indeed. She is my favorite. Great woman.

Gotta love her self-deprecating humor.

Oprah is so amazing. I love her way of life!
Fantastic commencement address! Well done Oprah!
A wonderful speech, for those who chose to live in the light...
The best advice ever!! Love the advice about following our feelings, and "getting still" when in doubt. Also love her episode about getting fired from a job for being "too emotional," and yet becoming one of the most successful women ever.

An icon, my admiration for Oprah an inspiration to all.
She is enlightening. I did not have the same type of guidance as Oprah but everything is coming into everything. I am en route to being the next millionaire. Thanks for sharing your wisdom O....!
Define your definition of DEEP!!! Sometimes it's the simple things that impact people the most. To me it was the best speech I've ever heard.
You explained this really well! 😄
Thanks for the great points about how the simplest things is what impacts people the most!
I'll remember this for next time!
Thank you Oprah~~

Love your work!!
Inspiring. Love Oprah
Great speech!
Oprah moves people!
She's not arrogant, that's why she is well respected. There are lots of powerful people who don't get nearly as much respect.
Oprah Winfrey on the "GREATEST SPEECH OF ALL TIME."Thanks Oprah!
i am so glad she spoke to the school. i'm glad she admitted to crying.
despite all of her name dropping and quoting, she is a real person. we all do that. we all learn.

I love that girl texting 3:37.
So much self-help. I wrote every advice she gave about life. All 150 of them.
Why is it that we think so much alike....
@nicole1007n i totally agree! :) she has a lot of wisdom! i loved watching her very final episode of her tv show also... it was really good to watch.
Im a graduate too, trying to figure out what to do with the rest of my life. This speech just put everything into perspective!
Although I wish I would have got an Eckhart Tolle book at my graduation day too, his books are life-changing!
Love the reaction of the girl at 17:24 :D
