Oprah Winfrey, global media leader and philanthropist, spoke to the Class of 2008 at Stanford's 117th Commencement on June 15, 2008. Winfrey drew on experiences from a career that began in 1976 when she co-anchored a television newscast, and she shared three lessons about feelings, failure and finding happiness.

Wow, she's so amazing and I like her speech very much.
The 200th comment!
Thank you so much Oprah , your speech was just the thing I wanted to hear
Gotta love her self-deprecating humor.
How are you?
What an amazing human being! They don't get any better.
Wish all the speakers are as natural as Oprah. Gosh she's so good to watch and listen at. Exceptional extemporaneous speech. She's a living legend. Thank you for the wisdom Oprah.

Oprah you’re my IDOL! You’re an example of an ultimate human kindness! I adore you so much that my dream is to meet you one day!
May God always bless you with good health and always keep you safe!
She is enlightening. I did not have the same type of guidance as Oprah but everything is coming into everything. I am en route to being the next millionaire. Thanks for sharing your wisdom O....!
i had really learned from here.. she is the best..
Big Fan of Oprah. I think its very cool someone finally wrote this book. "You Have A College Degree, Now What?" was released last month. Spotted it on Amazon.
congratulations Stanford class of 08. some of the brightest minds on the planet i'm sure.
Oprah Winfrey on the "GREATEST SPEECH OF ALL TIME."Thanks Oprah!
love ya oprah..........great inspiration for everyone in this world......
Great speech!
Oprah moves people!
I am a sixty year old U.S.C., U.C.L.A. graduate. I listen to this speech often and I learn something new from one of the most successful black women in history.
I remember from my speech classes before many of you were born, the first part of a speech is to get peoples attention, usually with comedy. It is appropiate to focus on Kirby because she is a 2008 Standford graduate and Oprah godchild. I find what Oprah said relative funny. I mean "sort of."
Who just "sort of" know Oprah
14:14 When you are doing the work you meant to do: It feel right and every days feels like a bonus regardless of what you are being payed.
Wissest words 👏👏👏👏👏👌👌👌👌
Love your work!!
I will keep this commencement address for good , I think it actually helped me a lot.
Especially, I got stock with my MBA program. I thought I gonna finish this semester first and travel alone to meet different people. I thought live ar the present and find the joy of your life matters more than getting that dipoma on time.
I really love her
wow. inspiring.

What an amazing speech!
The secret of life is giving......
I am glad she quoted Dr. King.
the greatest speaker is the greatest miserable person in his/her life ever. . . and the most influential ones.

@Vivamamaafrika This isn't a competition. I'm going to watch Jobs' one in a minute, but Oprah's really spoke to me. I found it very enlightening and wise. You can tell she's been there and seen it.
I would love a book as a present
love u oprah.........simply awesome...............hope i was there........i would have taken admission in stanfords had i known u will be the commencement speaker.......lolzzzzzz
I love that girl texting 3:37.
She is. But she does give a lot.
“speech to the young… speech, to the progress toward…” praise god-kanye west-donda
@rokyourbody She mentions Kirby to show she has a personal connection with the graduates , to show this isn't just a throw away speech , that it means something to her , it was entirely relevant to open the speech that way.
Love the reaction of the girl at 17:24 :D
very inspirational
SHe's so funny! an AMAZING speaker!!!
Im just wondering which university did Oprah graduated from herself? daamn, such a speech!
i've never been a fan of Oprah's, lets' just say im not her demo....but i found this to be very inspiring.
Profound
My Graduation Speaker, Gail King's daughter Kirby was a friend of mine
congratulations
I listen to many of your speeches, discussions, debates, and talks, in which I found that most of the conclusions were unrelated to the clear, direct and simple observations that you used as verifications.
Good day

Good day
@alz123alz what do you mean "sort off" i graduated in 2007 AND SO???? are you giving a back handed complement if so.... Please take it back and appreciate Oprah is an inspiration to all regardless of colour!
I so love Oprah!
good speech
Thank yooou Oppi, Ilove you too, peace and love, Doug :).
Considering the 2009 graduation hasn't happened yet, that would've been extremely difficult....even for Oprah.
Im a graduate too, trying to figure out what to do with the rest of my life. This speech just put everything into perspective!
Although I wish I would have got an Eckhart Tolle book at my graduation day too, his books are life-changing!

✨💫✨Felt so good ✨💫✨😊
she should have said, "Also, the cars wouldn't have fit under all your seats."
No wonder Oprah's speech only has 417666 views while Steve Jobs has over 1.8 million. This speech doesn't hit the heart as much as Jobs' did.
@SPMNDK89 why can't you just say "watch Jobs speech" like maraianazhovnirenko did? btw - her speech has been up for how long? and Jobs has been up for how long?
It is kind of weird that all these speakers they have have either not graduated, or have waited to get that diploma longer than "recommended"
steve jobs, oprah, etc...
good
I like Oprah & it's fine to mention her Goddaughte but 3 min. It's not Kirby's personal graduation.
Traduction vite g controle sur sa
Good speech but far from the incredible speech of Steve Jobs in 2005. That was really GREAT
dazzling
MA OPRAH
I wouldn't have wanted her to give my commencement speech.
If I was graduating ide probs be wondering why oprah kept talking about the acheivments of one kid :P
17:51
yea but think about it, popular in good way or bad way ...
can't believe she talked about her own goddaughter for a good 4 minutes in front of everyone. yes, she can and should be proud, but this is much more than just her goddaughter. her speech does not compare with that of Steve Jobs in 2005
😂this great black leader!
And her message.
Dr.Tyrone williams of Chester PA
would have been great if she gave them all cars

Okay, i respect Oprah and all...but why is she talking in a way, as if she is making fun of white people.. "like oh my god"..whats up with that?!
I have been watching this video over 50th times. At the first time when Im watching this one , I couldnt understand well. But now I can understand better than before. I still dont get some part, but I ll keep watching it. And the part I most like is when she said " The beautiful thing about learning is that nobody cant take that from away you"
I m struggling to study English everyday. I ll not give up when Im learning something, I ll make it mine.

I just want to say that I really enjoyed Oprah's speech.
An awesome speech, indeed. Absolutely empowering.
14:00 When you work in the right job it just feels right. Feelings are our GPS.
Oprah, She So strong So power and So Beautiful mind for everybody...i like you so much. you make Commitment to success and happiness. Thank you... Oprah Winfrey
she's my role model, she just knows what to say,she is not reading from the booknlike majority of popular people, she just speaks from d heart.you are the bomb!!oprah!!
Fantastic commencement address! Well done Oprah!
omg i was there! my cousin was graduatng! it was such a cool time and i want to go to stanford university like her. she inspires me like oprah does to others. my cousin was on tv for being the only person from her school to go to Stanford. go hispanic pride!
Did you go to Stanford?
The best advice ever!! Love the advice about following our feelings, and "getting still" when in doubt. Also love her episode about getting fired from a job for being "too emotional," and yet becoming one of the most successful women ever.
I totally agree with you! I thought i was being overly sensitive when i cried listening to her speech but it's Oprah's inspirational and words of encouragement that made me teared. She IS such an amazing, AMAZING woman. I wish i could meet and sit down and talk to her. She is such a wise person...
The purpose of a commencemennt speech is to impart knowledge to graduates of one"s personal challenges of becoming sucessful in life. If you listen to Steve Job commencement speech , which I enjoyed, he talks about his life from birtth to present. If you are talking about your successful life, the only pronoun you can use is "I". Be Open To The Lessons
she is beautiful inside and out. and that guy sitting behind her laughs at allher jokes. ADORBZ
@matling Most of these people don't need to be given a car. Most could probably give help to someone else less fortunate.
You get a degree, you get a degree, you get a degree
She reminds me of my supervisor at BCDC. Incredibly insightful, brilliant and down to earth. It's rare to work with folks like that, but when you do it changes your life.
Yes indeed. She is my favorite. Great woman.
