  • The Singing of Birds Resounds in the Valley
    composer: Wei Xiaohan
arrangers: Mei Han and Lyujing Liu
This piece is a modern composition based on a style of imperial Chinese court music. It is written in the conversational style with one instrument stating an idea and another answering. The arrangement adds bronze bells and stone chime, which bestows a sonic image of ancient China. The piece was performed and recorded at the MTSU Center for Chinese Music and Culture, which hosts a 24-piece set of replica Zeng Houyi bronze bells (section) and a 16-piece stone chime made in 433 BCE, which were excavated in 1978 in Hubei, Central China.
