Thank you for this easy to follow video, thank you, did it this morning for the first time and theyre soooooo good!! I added skinned and cut slices of ginger to give it a kick💛❤️🔥
I was literally just peeling my lemons that way to save the peel for soap making, lol. Then candied lemon peel popped into my head. I wouldn't fart around with a knife at all! I was interested in candied lemon peel until I realized it's essentially lemon peel with everything boiled out of it and then loads of sugar added.
I assume you could save the sugar/water mixture that the lemon peels have been boiling in? It would be a kind of "lemon simple syrup". Since you've already cleaned the peels and boiled them a few times, it should work right?
I want to try making this using monk fruit. Monk fruit is not cheap, like cane or beet sugar. There has to be a way to use less sugar, or to be able to bottle the simple sugar for another use later on. I would imagine the simple sugar could be bottled for later use. Also I think candied ginger or orange peel would pair nicely with the used lemon simple sugar water?
i make my own juice with lemons and lines i hate throwing the skin away great know i know what do.will be good will get someone to help a natural snack with something you would throw away THANKS.
Lynne Smith, Good day. My not being in the 1% nor even the 50% (😅), has made me quite the resourceful these days. I tinker around with quite a few things to get more than most even consider. I also use the peels to make powder. I "de-pith" the same way (fervently), then dehydrate them. I use the powder for smoothies, lemon bars, cakes, cookies, pancakes, cheescake crust, etc. I add it to whatever baking medium grain but, not 1:1. Too overpowering for that imo. I also use them for making bitters. I use the liquid for teas giving the teas an bitter bitter taste along with the sweetness of whatever sweetener & the lemon juice. I enjoy the flavors of sweet, sour & bitter with the peels added to different applications. Kind of like the bitterness of grapefruit. For those who like grapefruit or lime, surely my gazillion uses of the lemon will be a breeze. The bitters are also used for those who drink alcoholic beverages as "chasers". I almost forgot about making extract. The remaining mush which it becomes after boiling with some of the aforementioned applications, can be used for compost or animal feed. So yeah,, LOTS of uses.
@@JanCharles Thanks so much! I'm making mini lemon mascarpone pies and I needed just a bit of embellishment besides the whipped cream. So excited to try this!!!
Basically boil the lemons 2 times and drain them each time the 3rd time add sugar and you’ll know when it done when it look transparent then let them dry for 5nmins then later dip them in sugar and your Done

I use a potato peeler to cut the peel from the whole lemon. This means you don't have pith on the peel, Much easier.

Thank you for these clear and easy to follow instructions. They will go perfectly on a lemon cake I have in mind. (:
Anytime!

personally i find it best to leave the pith! it absorbs the sugar and flavors and makes it generally taste better.

Use it to poach pears!
Yes save it. I use it in tea but u can use it in other drinks/ cocktails
Just wondering how long it takes to dry them and what is their shelflife if I put them in a jar?

Did you make it with Monk Fruit? I cannot use sugar myself and was wondering similarly
Sounds good, esp on lemon coconut cake
Oh Rashaun - I bet that would be gorgeous!
@@JanCharles ,yesss!
Do I have to take off the pith or is it just an aesthetic/preference?
I used this method for grapefruit it is delicious . Thanks !
Oh great idea, Gina - I bet it's fabulous!
How many minutes should I boil the first and second time for??
Can you use these in Christmas Fruit Cake mix?
Has anybody tried dehydrating these after making for long term storage?
What is the purpose for boiling it 3 times prior to adding sugar? Wondering if that removes any of the health benefits or nutritional value?
Removed the bitter taste I think
Goodness is in pith
Thanks for the recipe, but what is the music ?
Wow so nice ata ke

@@ThePurpleRoseWithAHedge I've said for years that nothing goes to waste in my kitchen - I use EVERY thing - love it!
How long will these last? If I make them on Sunday, can I serve them on Friday?
Absolutely - they last at least two weeks. Just seal them in an airtight container and store in a cool place - not the fridge, but a dark cupboard.

@@madelinemoore615 Oh yum - I bet that'll be amazing!
Yummy candy
Has anyone tried boiling it down with honey? Do you think that would work?
Heath Hall yes
That would nice in tea or just with hot water
QUESTION: Is it cheweable? or literally a CANDY?
Gummy worms in 18th century?😂
Basically
Lov the video...going to try this recipe!!! Btw love the background music!!!
Does this taste good?
Lol - thank you Chill!
Essentially you boil the rind to get rid of everything then cook sugar into it so it tastes of diabetes
Actually you'd be surprised how much bitterness and lemon there still is after all that
Why did you throw away the water, isn't that full of flavor?
Could you save the water/sugar mixture in the fridge as a lemony simple syrup?
Yes you can! You can add it to citrus beers to sweeten or add it to hot tea, mixed drinks or even stir fried chicken!
This lemony simple syrup would be perfect for making lemon drops! 🍸🍋
All that boiling they wont have any flavor left.
MA- MAAM WHY IT TASTE BITTER?
If you boil them they shouldn’t be next time boil them twice or three times also lemons that aren’t organic can be more bitter than organic lemons

Maybe I'm dense, but I didn't understand the recipe!!!
Is there a question I can answer?
Hahaha

I disliked and commented to get the perfect no.
DIABETUS!!
This lady has stock in the sugar company
Seems to me all the lemon flavor is being boiled away and poured down the drain...
Not at all it tastes just like lemon
