Interesting and it sums up very neatly the classification of urban areas over other countries in the world in such a short video. Keep it up PRB and Carl..
There's not only a greater Boise, but the Boise metropolitan area is apparently the 83rd most populous in the United States, today outnumbering the entire US urban population of 1815! (OK, that's with Nampa which isn't really in greater Boise, and Meridian which may or may not be, so it's cheating a bit.) It's worth recalling that early projections for when the world would become half urban were a bit gung-ho, as were predictions of the size of today's biggest cities. The UN warned as early as the 60s that limited resources for infrastructure and services might constrain "formal"urbanism, and the same goes for emerging cities generally. A couple of billion of us may still move from country to town this century, but our appetite for megalopolitan living may prove finite after all, especially as "urban" becomes synonymous with "suburban" for ever more city-dwellers.
