I pick locks because they're just another kind of puzzle to me, but a puzzle that people use every day all over the world. And because these puzzles hold real prizes, they have more variety than anything else. The amount of different ways to lock a cylinder never ceases to amaze me.
I like picking locks because it is a way to challenge myself and gives me something to do when I am waiting for something or need to get my mind off stuff, it is also a great way to impress friends.
I love picking locks because I am disabled and home bound with lots of time on my hands. It's like reading a mystery and looking for the villain in this case the pins. I a half blind so at times I have slight advantage having to do everything by touch. Catching the villain is cracking the lock and keeps me out of trouble lol. This was a great video. Never saw a lock such as that one. You made it look easy. For me a real challenge. Keep up the good work.
Thanks James :) It's awesome how picking is so accessible to folks with all kinds of disabilities and limitations. I have a friend who has lost a lot of sensation in his hands, and how he's learning to pick all over again by using his hearing. I like your point about chasing the villain, LOL. Keep picking my friend!
Mr. Murphy, its so great to hear you're a lock picker. I'm disabled and wheelchair bound and picking gives me a great feeling and excitement when I'm able to pick.
Brilliant pick and overview. I had not heard of this particular lock. And when I saw this video I had to find one. and they aren't to badly priced. I was shocked to feel this one to be obtainable. So I thank you again for the drive you gave me to look it up. Now I got to get me one of those... No no, two of those. lol
Thanks SP! These locks are really beautiful! They're maybe not the most difficult pick in the world, but they are well-made and have an interesting design. I also like the insignias on the front. Glad you were able to track a couple of them down.
Very informative video! I love picking because I get to test myself every new lock I get and I love learning about how everything works and is designed and has evolved. It requires tons of concentration and patience, both good things to develop haha
Thanks Tim! I'm the same way with wanting to understand the mechanics of things and being interested in the evolution of design. Locks are kinda like the desire to build a better mousetrap, LOL. Thanks for watching and sharing why you like picking :)
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed... I had no idea bout the insignias, so I thought I'd look them up. When I found the answers I thought they were interesting enough to include in the video. Thanks for watching :)
Thanks Noctis! I had a good time making this video. I had my wife mark up the division test so it was in a different handwriting style and she actually said "did you make sure all of these are wrong?". I told her I'd made all but one of them wrong, but she proceed to check them anyhow. Had me cracking up.
Man.... Not only are you a brilliant pickologist. But your also an amazing vidieographer/ entertainer..... Sorry to wear out the lingo, but it seams to fit! Lol. Love the vid bro!
Yes sir. I am realizing the video challenge more and more every day!... Its been tough a few times lately. But a blast for sure! ....Btw I would like to see that roundhouse we talked about. Lol....That's my video challenge to you! Hahaha.
wow great picking! and great timing. I have one of these in my shopping cart but was hesitant to purchase it because it looked like it might be to advanced for me, but seeing it gutted makes me think I can do it with only four side bar pins (side bar pins usually give me trouble).
Excellent video thanks for sharing! I enjoy picking locks because it gives my a corporeal application for the same skill set I use when manipulating software in penetration testing activities. Also, I have the exact same problem with my Southord dimple pick set. The picks slide out of the handle way too easily no matter how tight I tighten the handle. Its not terrible by any meas; I like the set. It just needs to be able to tighten down tighter to prevent pick movement while picking.
Thanks Trent! And thanks for sharing the reasons you like picking! I actually really like that SouthOrd dimple set, but more for picking sidebar pins than dimple locks. The picks it comes with are a little like blanks to shape into custom picks. I would be nice if it held onto them a bit better though.
I began liking picking cause its like a puzzle that you can get new ones of over and over. But lately there are too many reasons to list. The biggest one that comes to mind are the people in this community.... I've made many friends and traded ideas/hardware with many too. Most of which I'd consider my friends..... I'm sure my list of reasons will continue to grow along with my knowledge. The question I think is why wouldn't you love lock picking!
Thanks JP! I'm with you on the puzzle aspect. I actually don't find the "security" aspects of locks all that interesting. For me it's more about the magic of opening them in an unintended way :)
I believe in pure knowledge. I pick locks because they are there. I pick locks because of the little rush when it clicks open. I pick locks so I can make locks stronger. I pick locks because no one else (I exclude all who would read this) can do it. I pick locks because it looks like magic. I pick locks because I can.
Excellent video and excellent picking. Like you said, you can get upto 3 *'s on locks over here, though the more stars referrs to the overall security (anti snap/ pick/ bump/ drill and so on), including time taken to defeat certain attacks. Its, unfortunately, do NOT relate to how hard to pick the lock is. I enjoy picking just for the reward of cracking a puzzle, with each lock being a different challenge to beat. Its a hands-on hobby, and has been useful to me in real life too.
Another awesome pick! I live in the U.K. And have these locks fitted on my house and office doors. In the U.K. They are branded Yale Superior series. They also come with a code card which has 3 codes on it. I'm guessing 1 for each section of pins and third for the side track? I was looking at the driver pins, I see one spool and the last one looks to be possibly an anti bump pin? What's your thoughts? Thanks for the great videos.
Interesting about the branding and the code card. I think you're probably spot on about the code. One for each row and another for the sidebar code. That first pin is certainly a spool, but I've not really seen another pin like the last. It's almost like a normal pin with a single, deep serration. Anti-bump seems like it's probably the reason for it. Thanks for watching Mike!
Just one gate in slaider ? It's old lock. I do it but another way, back way. Up. 2 mushrooms of driver pins....? Strange..! Was interesting to watch your work !
I started picking locks because i wanted a meditative hobby. Then I discovered who frustrating it is when a little hunk of brass is more devious then me, so now I just pick out of sheer stupid stubbornness.... Okay then, I also pick because of the sense of victory over said little hunks of brass!
Hahaha, yep... It sure was. Although I've since learned that line in Duke Nukem was, itself a reference to the movie "They Live". (ua-cam.com/video/PpL3zDeKmNs/v-deo.html)
It's not lock , it's a bubble gum ) with one star ! He have not one way to pick....! That profile in very many brands ! spoXe tool it's wonderful ! And sliders .....!? Sliders have something interesting ! Great. You pick it ) Excellent. You Good Master ! 9 pins , like in a " Sherlock " lock and more.... Good luck

zac that's funny, I read yours after posting mine, and we both think of locks kind of the same way. ..haha. Nice....Keep on picking man!
These certainly are the puzzles that hold real prizes, alright.
I like picking locks because it is a way to challenge myself and gives me something to do when I am waiting for something or need to get my mind off stuff, it is also a great way to impress friends.
It does the same thing for me, LOL. It's nice to be able to kick back and watch TV while still developing a skill.
tumbl3r I do it always when I'm watching tv. I even forget I'm doing it, it's such a natural thing for me
Many pieces in this lock and all are useful: it's rare! ;o)))
Another great picking, bravo.
LOL... Yeah, all too often a high parts count does not contribute to a better product. I think it actually does with this lock.

tumbl3r I wish i had a cool reason. Im just too lazy to go outside. Does that count lol

wow complicated little lock. great job picking it. I enjoy watching the prrcission You have picking.
Very informative video! I love picking because I get to test myself every new lock I get and I love learning about how everything works and is designed and has evolved. It requires tons of concentration and patience, both good things to develop haha

Live the history lesson and great picking again
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed... I had no idea bout the insignias, so I thought I'd look them up. When I found the answers I thought they were interesting enough to include in the video. Thanks for watching :)
Nice! Also love the history lesson at the beginning
Thanks BLP! Glad you enjoyed. I was totally unfamiliar with those markings, so I just had to research them.
Great video. I laughed and learned at many points throughout it. Much needed at 5AM. o_-
Thanks Noctis! I had a good time making this video. I told her I'd made all but one of them wrong, but she proceed to check them anyhow. Had me cracking up.
Looks a lot like the m&c i got the a few weeks ago. I like picking locks because of the opening, It is like magic opening a lock without the key.
I feel the same way about opening locks without keys... Very cool feeling! I'll have to look into the M&C. I'm not familiar with hat one.
Man.... Not only are you a brilliant pickologist. But your also an amazing vidieographer/ entertainer..... Sorry to wear out the lingo, but it seams to fit! Lol. Love the vid bro!
Thanks man! I had a good time making this one. Each new lock is not only a challenge to pick, but a video challenge too. It's a lot of fun.
Yes sir. I am realizing the video challenge more and more every day!... Its been tough a few times lately. But a blast for sure! ....Btw I would like to see that roundhouse we talked about. Lol....That's my video challenge to you! Hahaha.
very nice picking m8 cool euro😊👍👍
Thanks Leon! This one was a fun pick :)
Fun,informative and skilful picking.
Enough said 👍😘😎🤔🤓🔓😍

Thanks Jess! These are fun locks to pick... I'd say grab it. You'll get it open in no time :) Always here to help if you have questions.
Very informative, thanks.

Nice picking bud! I have an Abus E90 3 star kite mark that I would be willing to trade for the lock in this video. Keep on picking!

Very nice. That would drive me crazy. I like picking because I like visualization by feel, if that makes any sense.
Hey Randy! You won my drawing! Actually your reason makes perfect sense to me.
Just one gate in slaider ?
It's old lock.
I do it but another way, back way. Up.

macavity sometimes steel when the pins are made to be drill resistant.
LOL... Crazy how a few ounces of brass can be so frustrating, isn't it? Thanks for watching and for your comment.
Is the intro a reference to Duke Nukem? If so, that’s awesome :)
