    Why didn’t you improve meshtastic so we don’t have a forked community and divided clashing band usage?

    A Bluetooth interface will allow faster adoption and testing.
    That will give savvy devs a quick way to build simple apps that are the beginning of chat UX etc

      @andykirby absolutely will do, I have to put together a PowerPoint presentation for this summer to present my Mesh deployment, all the integration abilities, range and use case, TDeck and rooted Android device necessity and usage, all the above. In that process, it would be invaluable to have your input at any level.
      I was already looking into buying 10 Heltec V3 nodes, and I wonder, does your Meshcore integrate with ATAK like meshtastic, or is that something that I would still have to run vanilla FW to provide as functionality, especially the live map with the ability to add POI's and the like. Thanks again!!

    • @andykirby
      @andykirby  11 днів тому +1

      Thanks, no ATAK integration at the moment, I think by the summertime,when you are doing you presentation, things will have moved on significantly!

    • @ho0t0w1
      @ho0t0w1 10 днів тому

      @@andykirby thats what I figured, and also what I'm hoping 😅 I've got some folks who I feel the ATAK integration will really boost the usefulness of the mesh, you know how us slightly older gentlemen are either 100% texters, or 100% not, some of the elder guys may be less than impressed with "encrypted texting" as they'll see it. Surely they don't need convincing if I was given a few months and asked to drive/fly across the country to present it 😅

    • @ho0t0w1
      @ho0t0w1 9 днів тому

      @@andykirby will you be integrating RAK Wisblock nodes as well? It looks like in the current super beta config we'll have rooftop solar nodes for repeaters, TBeams for stationary and mobile (car), and Heltec v3 for pop-in nodes where we could auth a new client onto the mesh for a time while they're in the area but don't need persistent longer distance connection as the folks primarily using the network will want to have
      If the Rak nodes work with Meshcore, my integration situation could be slightly less hellish 😂
      I'd post my email here so we could have a conversation outside UA-cam comments section, and I searched your bio for yours, but I know the internet far too well to go posting even a throwaway Google as a random commenter 😂

    Will there be an Android platform like Meshtastic so we can see active users in real time on a map....all set up in Wakefield but we already have a divided group using default 869.525 and a big group using 869.4 so could be a wee while before we see any usage.....my T-Deck doesnt seem as responsive as yours Andy, in fact quite laggy, i have reflashed it but still the same ...... keep up the great work

  • @cottsak

    I’m curious, if you’re not satisfied with the values and future direction of the Meshtastic devs, why is the Reticulum stack not satisfactory?
    I think a little more background as to the “why” would help us get on board with supporting this when, like others have said, it can fragment the community.
    Fragmenting is okay if the pros outweigh the cons. But I don’t think you’ve given us enough of the “why” Andy. Is that something you’re working on for us?

    • @rippleradios
      @rippleradios 11 днів тому +2

      Reticulum is for a very broad set of technical challenges, of making networks of networks, and bridging networks in exotic ways. It does extend over to the world of LoRa, but wasn't designed for it. MeshCore is designed to be LoRa-first, and as efficient/fast as possible, and take on the scaling problem that Meshtastic have failed to solve.

    One thought on the clock syncing: can just anyone send a sync command? If the clock is needed for encryption, for example, could I spoof fake clock data, have someone's node sync from me, and knock it off the network because it's behind time by too much? Hacker hat on is making me think it's not a good idea to let just anyone run that command.

    • @andykirby
      @andykirby  11 днів тому +1

      Yes there will be an android app. Maps probably wont work the same way as meshtastic because meshcore is a very efficient system so GPS locations and NodeIDs are not transmitted constantly across the mesh...Meshtastic is a great beaconing system, Meshcore is optimised for communications.

    • @rippleradios
      @rippleradios 11 днів тому +1

      The clock sync _trick_ is just a temporary thing, while the RTC clock support is still being added.

      @@rippleradios yeh it seemed like this is for debugging. Theres no way you would allow remote clock syncing since the PKI depends on it.

      @ It feels like it could be useful for admin stuff, but you'd need to have a method of recognising trusted users. I did assume it was because things are new but I thought it'd be worth asking anyway.
