I live off social security and my rent is based my income. it's still a struggle for me when I get a raise on my social security because my rent goes up. So it's like there's no use in getting a raise if seniors have to pay more for living expenses

My rent went from 400 a month to 815 a month. It more than doubled. 80% of my check goes to rent....SMH

@@PeacefulSunflower-iv9gg I got 21 dollars per month raise only. Since there was not any regulations in Wisconsin on how much the rent can be increased it was decided I would pay more than fifty percent increase. I would not be struggling if my rent would have remained at 400 per month.

I know and understand why people move to warmer states after retirement. But at the end of the day unless you have the big bucks, Florida is screwing the senior population. I think moving to other similar places would stretch your budget better. But I can't tell folks how to spend their money, but use common sense y'all. FLORIDA IS A RICH RETIREMENT AREA. DUHHH!!! I know someone who moved there about 2 years ago and is complaining. In my head I'm saying then move fool. But my mouth says WOW. 🤦♀️

Im in Georgia and receive Social Security disability and last year i was recieving $180 in SNAP benefits. Beginning January though i was approved for medicaid. That $180 went down to $20. Im not complaining bc my Humana awards me $75 a month and luckily my condition is mental only. I can still push myself to work with the right medications. I feel bad for the elderly that cant work and are getting priced out of their apartments. Me, i stay with family and pay nothing in comparison right now. Just have to have faith we dont go homeless cause i would like to eventually move out on my own. Its scary though. We need to do better.

My rent increased from 825 to 950 this year. My check is only $943. I still have electric and water to pay. And electric bill is astronomical during the winter. I'm still trying to pay off the balance of $756 for my electric. My past due and current water bill is $100. Forget about life insurance and other bills I have not been able to pay. I'm not on any subsidy program..I rent from a private owner. But he doesn't seem to care about increasing my rent. He said my neighbor who is receiving section 8 has been paying $950 for a few years. And he felt he needed to raise mines too because of the economy. I'm sure my neighbor only pays a percentage on their rent. I have to pay the full amount out of my check. 🙄

@@shalaemorgan that's the way it is in NC. I even needed help one month for rental assistance from Department of Social Services Crisis program and was denied. The social worker said if my rent is higher than my check, I didn't qualify for help. Which is so backwards to me. Truly if I could have paid it myself, I would not have asked them for help. But yes, that's the rule: your rent cannot be higher than your income. I guess they feel ppl are living large on $943 a month.

I think that when the COA is given to people on any of the social security systems, a person shouldn't loose their medicaid. Medicaid should increase benefits for those individuals. You have healthy women on foodstamps and welfare that should be working and taking away from the elderly
