I remember when I was about 12 or 13, I waited all day at Playstation skate park in London (now called Bay Sixty6) for an ès shoes demo so I could meet Eric Koston as he was my idol at the time. Stood for about 4 or 5 hours on a ramp waiting for him and the other pro skaters to turn up. He eventually arrived and skated over to where i was and stood next to me on the edge of the half pipe while the other pro skaters had their turn. I was stoked. I timidly leaned over and asked if he would sign my skate deck. He replied with "nah kid I just want to skate f*ck off" and turned his back on me. I was utterly bummed. Gave up skating soon afterwards. Never forgot it, now at age 32 when I see his face I still get mad. Funny how things stick in your memory.
My uber driver today was Koston's doppleganger, I swear. As I got out I asked if he'd been told he looks like him before, and he said "I don't know who he is, but yeah!"
Ok so I can see how these young kids may not know Eric, but anyone who has ever played Tony hawk back in the day or opened a skateboarder magazine should. This was sick!
