The best thing to do after reading tdkr is not reading the sequels. If you want to read something to do with tdkr, read the last crusade and a death in the family, for what was later inspired.
Tough to argue with that. The sequels are inferior in basically every way, no doubt, but I think there's some fun to be had from reading them as long as you go in expecting them not to be as good
Great review, my first comic I read with watchmen n v for vendetta (like 20yrs ago!). I have nothing to add bout dark knight returns that haven't been said already n I think u have covered it well n most of us would agree with (been collected like in 69 diff formats with watchmen throughout d yrs!). I'm not gonna even try to justify strikes again though! What I would wanna say is it's kinda pity a legend like miller n what he has put out in d later yrs! Even though personally I think he is kinda overrated coz after that particular period I can't think of any good stuff he did. This is d same guy who gave us Batman year one, daredevil run, 300 n ronin which I think was good solid stuff other than dark knight returns. Another thing I wanna add is your channel is definitely one of d best out there to regards this hobby n interest of ours. I really do hope ur ch n contents grow so keep up d good work mate. Definitely very underrated n deserve much credit n more among the the other channels out there in this game. Peace n love from Malaysia, cheers! P/S: this review of yours makes me wanna pick up n re-read my copy of dark knight returns (so thanks a lot with my current backlogs n reading pile!) Not complaining though.
Read "The Dark Knight Returns" when it came out in paperback. However, when I attempted to buy "Dark Knight Strikes Again", the store owner woefully shook his head with a for lone look on his face. Ya just can't miss those signals. Also didn't read the third installment. Now I'm thinking "why not?" Guess I'll wait for the edition that has all three installments.
I can totally imagine that look on his face 😂 But yeah I think it's worth giving the sequels a go just for the wild experience of it. I'm sure DC will collect them all together in a book at some point, maybe a Dark Knight Saga Omnibus
I would like to hear your thoughts on the third book, because, I thought the same as you regarding Dark Knight Strikes Again. Now I curious about the Master Race. And by the way, the fourth is called the Golden Child.
@@TheComicBookTrove I have this Deluxe Edition that you reviewed, and the Deluxe Editions of the one shot prequel The Last Cruzade and the 4th volume The Golden Child. But I could only find a standard size hardcover for the 3rd volume. Do you know if it was released as a Deluxe Edition? Thanks.
I wonder if they''ll ever do an omnibus. The Frank Miller Batman has such a wacky timeline. Year One All Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder The Last Crusade The Dark Knight Returns The Dark Knight Strikes Again Master Race The Golden Child
It really just depends which format you prefer. I don't collect absolutes myself so I went with the deluxe edition but the absolute is obviously a great choice too
Lays pretty flat other than the first and last 50 or so pages which need to be held open to stop it from closing itself. Pretty much the standard for a DC OHC/Omnibus
That book is a piece of Art.

Thank you so much for the kind words, it's really appreciated! And sorry for adding to your reading list 😅
Dark Knight Returns is one of my favourite Batman series. Second one was poor but Dark Knight Master race was good

I'll definitely cover that book at some point, it's an interesting one that's for sure

It's never been released as a deluxe edition as far as I know, I have the standard hardcover edition of it as well

Year One
All Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder
The Last Crusade
The Dark Knight Returns
The Dark Knight Strikes Again
Master Race
The Golden Child
Yeah it's weird stuff all in all, honestly I don't see it happening
Which would you recommend for the Dark Knight Returns: the absolute or deluxe edition?

Is this volume perfect bound, or signature bound? Do the spreads open flat?

Thanks. Still waiting for a Dark Knight Returns only, signature bound omnibus.
I enjoy both stories
Nothing wrong with that, I think it's far from great but I can have fun reading Strikes Again
