That younger ones prefer the soya cake and the females always go for the fruits. Probably remember the earlier years when they stuffed themselves on soya cake and regretted it after. Lol!!
This is very wonderful, and the cake is a culinary masterpiece. What was the icing made of? Was it coconut? ......The orangutans absolutely loved it and I enjoyed how the audience applauded. Thanks for posting! This was a great way to start my day.

Why couldn't one of the caretakers at least give Riki time alone with it before they let the mother in? This actually made me a little angry. lol She shoves the baby out of the way, takes the only branch with fruit on it, then changes her mind as he thankfully grabs it away from her, and all the while, she's continuing to block his access to his own birthday cake. I know--they're Orangutans and don't know any better, but dang it, she aggravates me! I always hear how giving and caring the mothers are; directors of rehabilitation centres always brag about how if you give an Orangutan food, he will ALWAYS break it in half and give it back to you. So where is her innate desire to make sure Riki is fed before her fat butt? ;)
yeah and she also grabbed a branch with some type of fruit on it to get Riki's attention to that limb with (whatever kind of fruit) was on it. They make a vegetarian birthday cake for gorillas and orangutan, Koko got one for her 42nd birthday and she loved it.
Carla René to this day she is STILL that way over food. However, RIKI caught on to her really quick. He gets his fair share and MORE now but she’s got Loki now. Nothing comes between KiKi and her food.
Kiki is so mean sometimes. Poor Riki. I'm just glad he had chappy gypsy and Valentine to show him love. Kiki was forcefully bred and should never of had Riki so early. The zoo does this for revenue. Babies bring in the crowds at the animals welfare.
