Asher Fisch conducts one of the most majestic and extravagant of all orchestral works. Strauss' enthralling musical travelogue depicts a journey to the peaks of the Bavarian Alps, through dark forests, ferocious storms and a stunning waterfall.
This wonderful performance has caused me to re-evaluate this work by Strauss - bravo W.A.S.O.
Some truly glorious playing here from one of Australia's finest and most-loved symphony orchestras. Thanks so much for posting it online for all to experience.

Fine conducting, very good playing with superb first trumpet & flute.

Wonderful conducting - perfectly played!
It was clear he knew the pieces within the piece (returns of theme fragments all over the piece) and had an idea of what he wanted tempo-wise (Strauss isn't much help...even his own recording takes tempi he does NOT indicate in the score). While he was always clear, I thought the orchestra could've used more of him physically. He stood pretty much in one spot the whole time and I felt like he could've gotten more (emotionally) out of the orchestra if he turned to the various sections and encouraged them. Otherwise, it was a solid performance.
