ABOUT ME:
My name is Mengy and this is my motovlog channel, Moto Mengy. I plan to upload a Goldwing motovlog every Sunday. I ride a 2018 Honda Goldwing DCT Tour but I rode Harley Davidson's for 25+ years before. I'm motovlogging with a GoPro Hero 8 Black mounted to a Bell Mag 9 open face helmet, no external mic! To me riding is wind therapy.
My goal for the channel is to motovlog Pennsylvania country roads while also motovlog exploring around America. I'll also talk about biker topics and such, probably test ride a few other motorcycles, and will definitely get lost and accidentally wind up on unpaved roads along the way.

I wish Honda offered more color choices for the Goldwing, it just always seems so limited and mundane.

I am on my third Goldwing and that is why I use the ceramic coatings. Help to put a hard covering on it. The dash can be ceramic coating also. Check it out. Be safe, have fun.

Hey Mengy, great video. Just a heads up. I lost all electronics on my 2021 Goldwing DCT tour. The bike started and ran perfectly. However nothing worked, no buttons, black screen. Couldn't switch out of tour mode. The culprit was, corrosion on the TWO main fuses under the main fuse block next to the battery. When I went to check the fuse the wires were barely hanging on and broke off when I pulled it. I put two new inline fuses in and covered all connections in tape and a hot glue gun. The main power going to the fuse block was also corroded. I cleaned it and covered it in glue. I highly recommend you check your bike. Get yourself some deelectrical grease and pack the bottom of your TWO main fuse connections. One is 30 amp and one is 20 amp. Spread the love bro.
That's good to know, I've actually read about other people having corrosion issues around the Wing's fuse box too. Think I better check mine out...🤔

I have similar wheels on my CTX1300. My first without spokes.
The first time I cleaned them was a nightmare because I hadn't put on silicone. Now I use a thick silicone made for sidewalls to keep them shining. But it also works well to keep the dirt from sticking to the wheels too.
My air filter is also a pain to change. Like one Goldwing reviewer said, Honda took an air filter and designed a motorcycle around it.

Day 1 i put a lens protector on my gauge cover. It's not a touch screen, so any scratches would be caused by cleaning. Hard to avoid on a multi-week ride when the only microfiber you brought gets chunky.
I wish I had done that on day one. I still might replace my plastic cover with a new one and put a protector on it. Lots of work but it sure would be great afterwards.
Awesome stuff. I’ve just bought a 2024 tour. Traded in my gw bagger. Love the bikes. I put protective kits on the dash and bags. Look new.

Honda says every 2 years for coolant change so are you past due for that and or waiting to do the air cleaner at the same time? Hope you shoot video while doing those two maintenance procedures.... I'm past due as well😊

Put your bike on the center stand when washing. This way you can clean all the rim without moving the bike, I also wash all around the pipes every time to keep them clean. I've never had to use chrome polish. I do only have 14K miles so far.
I do put it on the CT but it sits on the front wheel, so I have to put it down to rotate it. 😞
@@MotoMengy It is really easy to rotate the front tire, even though it is on the ground. It will slide (there's not much weight on it.) The other thing I do is use one a scissor jack to hold the wheel off the ground, placing it under the engine..
The Goldwing maintenance is basically easy, EXCEPT for the air cleaner. Nickes and scratches will happen when you ride it. Keep riding 😊

Hah, those are aftermarket, Goldstrike makes those, they are much better than the stock ones!
I sat on a friend's Tour with an Ultimate mid-rider seat - that seat was so comfortable I did not want to get back on my GSA that day - like sitting on a pillow. Do you do the DCT filter with every oil change? I had been doing that but if it comes to that again I may skip every other one. Have you done a brake fluid flush? Sure wish they had chrome for 2024 - not really a fan of the all blacked out look no matter the brand. At this point I'm kinda itching to get back on a DCT Tour.

I've done the DCT filter with every change, I figure why not. Haven't done a brake fluid flush yet, still working great but I might do it this winter.
You mentioned the F4 windscreen and its scratch resistance. Is it better than the stock in terms of wind protection?
Yeah its much better for wind protection. Its a bit wider and it has a kickback flair at the top which deflects the airflow away from both riders helmets. We barely feel any wind hitting our heads even at 75mph, its great.

No, the saddlebags for the Goldwing only come in one size. Though I do think an aftermarket company might make deeper doors for them...

I have a 14 Road King, just turned 62K on it. Done well so far but the next bike get will most likely be a wing or a Voyager. I rode with a guy who has a Wing and he has 350K on it.
Road Kings are good bikes. I almost bought one in 2005 but I ended up buying a Heritage instead.
The paint on my 2018 Tour 6MT in Hawkeye blue is extremely thin and soft as butter. I polished it up when new and have kept it ceramic coated from purchase and use Turtle Was spray ceramic spray on it. Take the time to clean the wheels and exhaust system up and ceramic coat them. Bike clean up and detail is a snap. Saddle got a tiny split in it. I replaced it pronto with a Ultimate seat, passenger backrest and ride backrest. Should have done that as soon as Ultimate came out with a saddle for it. The navi and bluetooth is crap. They the navi and audio system came out of the tech trash can from there cars and stripped it down and then used a bluetooth version that went obsolete in 2007. So all that is pure junk and this side of useless. If you ride agressive the tires will wear fast! I went to a car tire out back and kept the oem front tire. That fixed the tire issue. Added some farkles to it. It's the best boring bike I've ever owned. Thank goodness I have a MT-09 for fun.
I should have ceramic coated mine. I've heard others who put a car tire on the rear, I might try that someday.

What kind of mileage do you get at what speed
It gets about 55mpg at most speeds, if I'm cruising at 70mph+ its more like 50mpg. If I'm really racing around in Sport mode for long rides it can drop to 45mpg, but thats pretty much the lowest I've ever recorded and its only happened a few times.
