I actually agree with DC. It was too one sided to be fight of the year. Comparing other great fights like Gaethje/Chandler, Dustin/Chandler, Dustin/Hooker, Lawler/Rory, Jiri/Glover, Hendo/Shogun 1, Figgy/Moreno 1 i dont think it comes close.
Still a very good fight though, and probably KO of the year for Max
Only Rory Lawler comes close in that list for me.

Max should seek to fight McGregor, Topuria and Oliveira. He has a path to victory in all matches, and all will add to his legacy equally. Trying to jump Arman for the belt and risk a setback that's not worth it against Islam is just not the best move at this stage in his career.

It wasn't fear, Ilia is Spanish, so he didn't understand what was being said in the moment. That simple.
The whole fight had that building feeling of something big was coming. Thankfully we got it. Cause if we hadn't everyone would be saying how it didn't live up to the hype, honestly it didn't. Max made justin look very bad in there. And not because of the KO, but because he outclassed him for 25 minutes straight.

There was 1 great fight that 300 card, and a couple good fights. Sierra and Hill should never have been the main event. Without what Max did it was an ok card
Ben is right. Max was too long and fast for Justin. They are listed as the same height, 5’11”, however like most, they exaggerate Justin’s height. Celebrities of all sorts lie about their height. It makes them more impressive if they are taller. Sports athletes, actors, whatever. Justin is more like 5’8.5”. Max is 5’11” for real.

For *Most* of the MMA community, FOTY back in 2012 was Jim Miller vs. Joe Lauzon at UFC 155. It was like a Mirror image of what we just saw in Tsaryukyan vs. Oliveira at UFC 300. If you don't remember it go watch it again before denying my statement.
I think that was an overall better fight, All things considered, then Max Holloway vs. Gaethje. Max versus Gaethje was an amazing fight, all the same, when you obviously include the stunning, phenomenal finish by Max at the end.
The last pure stand-up fight that I gave fight of the Year recognition / honor to was back in 2016 in UFC 195, Robbie Lawler vs. Carlos condit. That fight was close, competitive, from start to finish, and add the greatest fifth round of a title fight of all-time.

Max KOing Gaethje at UFC 300 was easily the frontrunner for KO of the Year (2024), and in my thought-out opinion, the greatest KO in *UFC* history.
If JG didn't suffer broken nose in the first round, it would have been a different story altogether for MH. The way he fought was merely a brawl and will be an easy match up for Tuporia or Islam 100%

Take into consideration, nobody besides die-hard Holloway fans and a few fighters, have Max a chance. They said Gaethje will KO max, that Max is too small, rerun of Gaethje/Ferguson, Max will not comeback after a loss from Gaethje. Max overcame the odds. Max outclassed, outshined Gaethje the entire fight. It was 4-1 possible 5-0 for Max. Then put this definitive win on the line just to brawl for the last 10sec. Not only proves that he can outclass Gaethje, but became the the one KO’ing Gaethje.
