Would love to have seen Miss Li's face and those in the recording room when Courtney belted out her vocal track to Miss Li's song. That would have put a huge smile on my face to watch their reactions to Courtney laying down her track for this at 14. Her vocals are insane. I think Courtney's vibrato is freaking amazing while she's belting out this song. So much power in her and then to sing with that vibrato singing a bluesy rock song like this, is the best I've heard.
Btw, from what I've seen with singers, most are very self conscious about their singing. Until a lot of people tell them how good they sound. They don't seem to feel confident in their singing. And even then, many still wonder if people really like them. Many need to hear it.
Thanks, HCR!!! She recorded that at a Swedish studio around the age of 14. Great point to suggest that all look beyond the so-so sound (she played that studio recording from her laptop) and to instead concentrate on her crazy-good voice and delivery. For me, despite not liking the instrumental portion as much, those are my favorite vocals I've ever heard Courtney lay down. That she did it at age14, is MIND-BOGGLING!

Hey Paul. Another great Courtney reaction. Everything Courtney sings is beyond amazing, but many of us believe that this rendition of 'Love Hurts' is among Courtney's most spectacular pieces of music. The funny thing about it, is that we basically heard this masterpiece by accident. We were on a live chat with Courtney and a number of people were asking Courtney to sing 'Love Hurts'. It was then that Courtney said she had already recorded it and she went to her laptop to see if she could find it. Lucky for us she did, because the world needed to hear this. When Courtney played it, there was almost stunned silence because we were shocked at the absolutely exquisite performance we were hearing. There were a bunch of OMGs along with universal requests for Courtney to play the song again, which she did. It's hard to describe how good this is. Thank you for reminding everyone that this is being broadcast off a file saved on a laptop, transmitted over a cell phone via a live chat and then recorded again on the receiving end by another cell phone and it is this unbelievably beautiful. Can you even imagine what the digital studio version of this sounds like. I'm not sure there would be words to describe it. This performance has been universally proclaimed and many have hoped that Courtney would release this, and it may happen eventually, but her main focus now is on her original music. Courtney was on a live chat from a practice studio working on her new music a couple of months ago and she sang the first verse of 'Love Hurts' live. Talk about being the stuff of dreams. It was everything it was imagined it would be and more. Courtney is truly the voice of a lifetime.
The original of this version of 'Love Hurts' is by Linda Karlsson (Miss Li), a Swedish singer who Courtney worked with shortly after AGT. It was a hit in Sweden and some surrounding countries but less known more broadly. It is often confused with a song by 'Nazareth' and others, but it is completely unrelated to those songs of the same name.
In answer to a couple of your questions. Courtney has said that she doesn't particularly like listening to herself sing. The words she has used, I believe, is 'uncomfortable' and 'weird'. As to her library of songs. Courtney is a prolific and amazing song writer. During the Covid lock downs, when all other areas of creativity were shut down, Courtney continued to write and home record songs. Some she has shared with fans on her live chats, but many remain in a bulging archive of material. When restrictions ease, and she is able to begin releasing, she likely has enough material for multiple albums.
Miss Li did a version of the Nazareth song. Dont kid yourself.

this is one of my favorites, but her Etta James when she was much younger will give you goosebumps like no other incredible... people may disagree, but i see no artist to match her abilities.

Courtney is obviously a generational talent. No words can do her justice. She’s the best female singer I have heard in my 68 years, and that includes the great Janis Joplin. Courtney is in her own galaxy. She is saving Rock and Roll for the world all by herself!

From what I understand she did this on the first take they tried several others but never beat the first then she was not allowed to release it because of you know copyright problems
Hi Don, I don't think it had anything to do with copyright problems as it was Miss Li's song and according to Courtney on her life chat when she let us hear that song. I believe she said they were thinking to release it and Miss Li was OK with that, and then just didn't at that point. She also said some months later she tried to record her vocal track again, but it wasn't as raw, is the way she put it. I believe that chat got deleted though. I can't find it anymore. If I do I'll link it.
They could release this tinney and rustic version and it would still be a million seller, I’d download it tomorrow!

murtheblur, you obviously are not into a bluesy rock sound from back in the day. People who are, will know this performance would go down as one of the best they've ever heard, period. And since you didn't even know this was not Nazareth's "Love Hurts" song, but Miss Li's song, your credibility is of know merit. This is the one song you'd want to over sing as you put it wrongly. Courtney did it perfectly. It's one of her best singing performances and we all know it.
