Extremely powerful! And so bloody clean!! Judged by the YT comment section, my impression is that the hardcore (or the majority?) DS fans rates the Alchemy live version the most, so I'm probably cursing in the church here but I'm gona put my head on the block and state that this version with a 64 year old Mark Knopfler Genius is The best version of this master piece. What do you guys think?
J'avais 14 ans la première fois que j'ai entendu "Telegraph Road" sur "Alchemy"! J'en ai 50!💕 One of the best tunes of this last fifty years!🙏 Thank You Mark!👋👋👋👋
I think what draws me to so much of Mark's music is a sense of bittersweet nostalgia, exemplified in this piece (and so many others). There's a sadness, regret and yearning. And it's so beautifully articulated in the lyrics and music. But with the sadness, there's a sense of hope, as well. Rock on Mark, keep on picking'!
+dstarling61 That was very nice what you wrote. Mark and our generation are coming to an end. Mark has his talent and I have still the biggest mouth at times. He got rich and famous while I got quiet for a while until 9/11 woke us all up. I savage Islam where ever and some ask me why. I am emotional and always was and will be till I die. Some people I met are happy to know me while others don't run but walk away, fast. I am a calmer bull these days thanks to music. Marks music helps me to calm down with some of his fantastic riffs. I never got to see him in concert but have all his music in different forms plus here on YT which captures the moments well.
No importan los años. Esta canción nunca envejece. Enorme. Aún sin el virtuosismo y la velocidad de épocas pasadas no deja de emocionar e impactar. Espero impaciente por la próxima gira y el nuevo disco.
Knopfler is a good example of ,,, A few well placed notes with a nice feel ,, is better than a million notes all over the neck that just go over your head , A good lesson for up and coming Guitar players to learn , Jeff Beck is another good example of this.
Mark makes every note beautiful. That's why he is my first guitar influence. When I started playing 30 years ago, I tried to play like him. Tried, not succeed!
please play like YOU! From Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, Morgan Freeman as Azeem: Azeem : Salaam, little one. Small Girl : Did God paint you? Azeem : Did God paint me? [laughs] Azeem : For certain. Small Girl : Why? Azeem : Because Allah loves wondrous varieties.
5:30 This is one examle Grenn Worf upgrades Knopfler's band (compared to the old Dire Straits): right after the guitar band.. the bass is doing a long and warm glissando... ah!

Very well expressed. And in addition there is this special combination of sensitivity and power.
I love how at 9:01 he starts flying - like a bird flying away from this rain and this cold.

There's that great moment after 4:35 when Knopfler sang "You got six lanes of traffic, three lanes movin' slow" ... perfectly caught on camera.
It's just guitar god, playing here.
