Shorter achievement playthroughs are great. I got this achievement as the Knights after a few trys. In one the Reformation started in Cypress -> ragequit. The key is to go a after Byzantium before the Ottomans to get enough power, so people will actually ally you.
Ticklehug There's some wisdom to that while he still has only one province, if an enemy is standing on his only province he's not going to be able to do anything about it unless his army is sieging something elsewhere. But assuming that he gets more provinces however and he'd do well to keep it, and he does plan on getting more provinces, if he doesn't he'll redo it.
2:12 Arumba, these are not the Knights templar, but the Knights Hospitaller. They were a holy order established to help people get safely to the holy land. After the last crusader kingdom fell they moved to Rhodos and later to Malta.
I have done this achievement recently, will be interesting to see how Arumba does it. Allying Venice is a must since it is the only sure thing you can do each run, and from the start you just take Morea and Achea from Byzantium after allying Venice. Then you just wait until the Mamluks get into a brawl with the Ottomans and it should be easy from there.
I think it should be possible to join the empire by making Austria like you, which would make Austria defend you from anyone attacking you since none of your neighbours are in the empire, and you don't have to worry so much about taking land which Mamluks or the Ottomans will also want as they probably won't want to attack Austria too early on in the game, especially if you ally Poland/Venice/Aragon as well as one of the bigger Italian minors with a decent navy (you don't need to ally Austria if your in the empire and they will defend you anyway, unless you really want them to help with offensive wars as well). You'll also get nice bonuses to tech cost and unrest (I think those are what you get) from the modifier when there are a certain number of princes, but you probably won't get any bonuses from the emperor enacting reforms too early on. Also, you are the Order of the Knights of Saint John (also known as Knights Hospitallers), not the Knights Templar (or Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon, which is the Templars actual name).
Here's what I did if you're interested. I declared a no-CB war on Ragusa, took ragusa, then moved into Italy with allies and proper CBs. From there I built up a big power base, and took Jerusalem when the Ottamans were dismantling the Mamluks. I did it a patch or two ago though so idk if that still works.
i watched every episode of your Swedish playthrough and was very sad that you didn't play out the full period. but then I was all 'ooooh new playthrough'.
It isn't the Knights Templar. It is the Knights Hospitaller (Order of the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem; _Ordo Fratrum Hospitalis Sancti Ioannis Hierosolymitani_)
Arumba I reccomend some no CB wars or Trade wars with urbino or ragusa, they really help you expand into europe and close the gap between you and powerful catholic countries.
This should be interesting. One of my favorite things to do in CK2 is play as the Kingdom of Jerusalem and try to survive everything. Doing very well on my current game.
Arumba i think the first thing u should do is fabricate on cyprus and focus on taking it before venice do even tho it will ruin your relationship with them but its luck based on whether they declare on you or not, then fabricate claims on the mamluks and wait for the ottomans to declare on mamluks and grab the necessary provinces at least thats how i did it.
I would recommend just demolishing your fort, not just mothballing it. Its zone of control is nonexistent and if there's anyone seiging it early on, you've pretty much already lost. The only time it might help you is if you get a rebel spawn, which is something you should be avoiding on your island capitol if at all possible. Plus you save an additional .5 ducats per month, which means a lot for a country with 11 development.
Any merchant steering toward your trade capital from any distance away will give you a 10% stackable trade power bonus. Its almost always better then collecting in your capital unless its not possible to do, or you are collecting in another node, which nullifies any steering bonus.
On my Knights run I was required to start wars of aggression against bosnia and theodoro because without more land and a closer border distance I could not get alliances with anyone. I did take Naxos early on when Venice got into a bad war but the Ottomans always go after everything in Greece rabidly but not as much around Ragusa for whatever reason. It was a very fun game in the end but very frustrating until I decided that the usual rules had to be broken. Oh and you may want to boost your stability to help with converting Rhodes.
Ha, I finished my Knights to Jerusalem playthrough last night. I started out by conquering Cyprus with the help of Venice. After that Venice realised they wanted Cyprus and declared on me, the traitorous bastards. But, luckily enough, the got distracted and I ended up taking Crete from them. After a second war my capital was moved to Venice. It took a while before there was an opportunity to conquer the holy land though, as the Mameluks were beating the shit out of the Ottomans.
I just did this a month ago it's real fun, the first thing I do is play as the knights and no cb Constantinople , ally venice and start eating georgia and Crimea, I try to ally poland to keep the Turk away and take Cyprus and Mameluke lands with venice when they're weak
The knights are just in a better position because of venice and Constantinople, you could try taking the little minors by the Turk if you wanna try Cyprus
Managed to do this before the last DLC came out. Allied Venice, and literally just waited until the ottomans started wrecking the Mamluks and swooped in and took the land needed. Though it looks to be a lot harder now.
a no cb war on cardissia was how i started this achievement as they have the same size army as the knights and then full anexed some of the smaller hordesbefore finally being big enough for poland to ally me and help me crush the ottoscum
Arumba, based on my experience trying for the Gothic Invasion achievement, Austria is a non-factor. They are only a threat if they can walk their armies to you, as their navy is almost non-existent. They shouldn't pose a threat to you. Just wait on Rhodes for them and Genoa to land 3-4 regiments at a time and wreck them with the naval landing penalty.
I really like to take the papal influence when choosing an heir. the new 20 year modifiers are really good in this situation. either the dip reputation, that really speeds up your campaign, or the interest/ inflation reduction thing, is really helpful ( I often find myself going into debt early on as the Knights) papal controler is to random and without cardinals not possible anyway, and if you give the Pope some kisses, together with the additional papal influence from devotion and from the heirs you choose (especially if you cicle them) you are able to get these modifiers quite fast. What are your thougts on doing development? In this position. For me Admin and military points are to valuable in this situation, but you can get some nice additional Income by spending diplopower/ but don´t forget to convert the province first ( I had some bad surprise one time wondering why the slow conversion got even slower ^^)
I can't wait for him to form the Kingdom of Jerusalem. It will be so funny "Your holiness, we have captured the Holy-land" "Fantastic. Proclaim to all our citizens the Kingdom of Jerusalem" "What a grand day! Who shall be the King?" "Why, I shall be the King" "Your holyness, you were the son of a manure sellsman! Do you dare proclaim yourself Kind? "Yes" "Verywell, your 'Majesty'
Autonomy in capital... I don't need venice for now? What kind of scrubby campaign will this be, when I completed this I just allied venice as fast as possible and annexed cyrpus / ragusa / Byz, only way to stay in it, go for the naval forcelimit
you don't have to send merchants to collect trade anymore. you automatically collect trade in your trade-capital, which is most of the time also your actual capital.
Oi! I'm currently doing this one!!! I'm doing it as The Knights. Being a Monastic Order is borderline broken. I have a 4-4-5 ruller and a 5-5-5 heir at year 1598, and all is proceeding nicely.
Just to note because it wasn't mentioned, the year has to be before 1650 for the decision to form Jerusalem. That's a decent way into the game so if you survive that long, I don't think it'll be an issue, but it is a thing. Another interesting fact: the Knights' only province is Greek, but their primary culture is Maltese.
SpatsirkSpart In theory, he does. If Protestantism happens before he can form it, the decision will disappear, rendering this particular run a failure. :/
Qimodis Can't find anything. Just give me a link. And on the actually achivment it doesn't says anything. (But I have never played as Cyprus or Knights so I don't know how the decision works)
I know this is a bad place for this but I haven't been able to find any other posts about it online -- does anyone else crash to desktop when trying to load a CK2 game with Arumba's keyboard shortcuts mod pack? It's been happening since Horse Lords for me.
If any one would suggest a good nation to play as with some of the most interesting mechanics.... What would it or they be? Ive played A game as England, Austria, and Japan as the latest and I want to start another soon but cant really decide who to play as and those are the only games ive played so far. Was going to try Byzantium or one of the hordes as they seem to be pretty interesting, any help would be apreciated.
Try the'Basileous' achivment. You havn't done Byzantium in a long time. I would love him to 1. have to do an Iron-man start and 2. see how it goes with common sense
Winster Languish Playing as the Eastern Roman Empire isn't that hard if you manage to get an alliance with Poland before they get their PU. I've done it a few times while playing as the ERE. You just need the Diplo Rep guy (getting a mission to improve relations with Serbia to 100 is also welcome) and to hope that the Ottomans don't attack you before you get your allies.
Carl Gripenberg True, but it doesn't make it easy, especially is Aruma goes arumba and tries to face against the powerful Europeon nations and bring the West back under Roman control.
Carl Gripenberg Not that hard if you just wait for the OE to send their troops to Egypt and cut them off at the straits. I managed it with only Georgia and Muscovy as allies.
***** You know, I found it intreasting that the title of the OE was "Padishah" instead of "Sultan" or "Great Sultan". Although among the many Ottoman titles was "Padishah", his main title was always "Sultan"
once played a game as Pomerania (i wanted to reform to Prussia then become Germany) And the knights with the help of Venice attacked and full siege Hungry.

GOD WILLS IT!

Leon Melaisis But one sounds cooler.
***** It's not remark to term but to a movie "Kingdom of Heaven" you guppy.

Big thing Arumba, Knights are western tech, Cyprus is eastern tech!
Granacthor hi
Shorter achievement playthroughs are great. I got this achievement as the Knights after a few trys. In one the Reformation started in Cypress -> ragequit. The key is to go a after Byzantium before the Ottomans to get enough power, so people will actually ally you.
Qimodis Simple ,it is the way it's pronounced.
CypherRCX Simple, because people don't care about foreign culture.
Stubby the Baby It has nothing to do with foreign culture. Cyprus is the English name.
Oh.
The Knights are the Knights of Saint John aka the Knights Hospitaller
They aren't the knights Templar they are the knights of Saint John
also known as knights hospitaler
You should just destroy the fort in your capital Arumba. If any force lands you're done, there's no point to keep it.
Ticklehug There's some wisdom to that while he still has only one province, if an enemy is standing on his only province he's not going to be able to do anything about it unless his army is sieging something elsewhere. JJ Kent He can sally (or smth) woth his garrison, so..... There IS a point in keeping it.
Menno_3 sortie. Sortie the garrison.
Calling a redo soon, not a good start at all
***** One of many, I think
***** Arumba is god. He'll be king of Jerusulem, Italy, Greece, France, and spain by teh end of the game
***** I'm pretty sure he'll have to do it as Cyprus.
Winster Languish Just like how he got BBB achievo
***** Lucky. Took me a few attempts, but I got it as the Knights.
Love this kind of series, like Byzantium, difficult start, some retries, but highly enjoyable
2:12 Arumba, these are not the Knights templar, but the Knights Hospitaller. They were a holy order established to help people get safely to the holy land. After the last crusader kingdom fell they moved to Rhodos and later to Malta.

Oh man, I have been waiting for Arumba to start a new series and this one seems like it should be very interesting.
Yes! A new series from Arumba.
Yes!! I've been asking for ever for a Knights LP!!!!!!

I've been waiting a long time for a modern Knights campaign! Huzzah!
Yay! Knights! That'll be awesome! Can't wait for more!
i watched every episode of your Swedish playthrough and was very sad that you didn't play out the full period. but then I was all 'ooooh new playthrough'.
It isn't the Knights Templar. It is the Knights Hospitaller (Order of the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem; _Ordo Fratrum Hospitalis Sancti Ioannis Hierosolymitani_)
This was a great and easy achievement! I hope you have fun arumba!
Declare on the Byzantines! Leeroy!
oh lord yes, ive been waiting for this
this is gonna be interesting

2:10 the knights in this case are the hospitaller as your idea suggests not the templars sorry for nitpicking love you arumba! :D
Looks like an interesting one, good luck, you're going to need it!
This achievement is flipping hard. I wish you all the luck
colin keele It's Arumba we're talking about, he's OP ;)
Well, this should be an interesting one.

Just gonna check back in a week so I can watch episode 1 of 10 consecutive restarts all in one sitting.
Managed to do this before the last DLC came out. Allied Venice, and literally just waited until the ottomans started wrecking the Mamluks and swooped in and took the land needed. Though it looks to be a lot harder now.
As a monastic order, I think electing a Merchant's Son gives you a chance to gain mercantilism in an event.
a no cb war on cardissia was how i started this achievement as they have the same size army as the knights and then full anexed some of the smaller hordesbefore finally being big enough for poland to ally me and help me crush the ottoscum

omfg, I go to bed while you're controlling scandinavia... then I wake up and there's already 3 knights videos...
one of the few archievments in 2000 hours i not evne got close to
WE DEMAND MORE !!
I've been thinking about doing this achievement for a while, it would be a feather in your cap if you can pull it off, excited to see how you do.
XD I don't go in UA-cam for two days only to find this with 9 episodes.
New Series! Woot Woot!
Oi! I'm currently doing this one!!!
I'm doing it as The Knights. Being a Monastic Order is borderline broken. I have a 4-4-5 ruller and a 5-5-5 heir at year 1598, and all is proceeding nicely.
Damn I forgot how few things used to be at the top of the screen in this game
A new series! Hopefully I can keep up with this one...
Leary about following a new series...Still waiting for Arumba to get his butt to Germany in the other one. :)
take loans!! build galleys!! Build troops!! Declare!!
THANK GOD! get it guys?....
Noice, new series!
It's not the Knights Templar, it's the Knights Hospitaler. They're very different :)
If you want extra naval support, try to ally with Aragon
what will he do when he gets jerusalem?
Woooh new campaign!

waimot Actually, I think they changed away the primary culture away from Maltese. Can't remember to what though.
Carl Gripenberg It's French culture I think, that's why he has the decision to form France. or something like that.
Carl Gripenberg Thank you for the correction. As mentioned by ddfb494355 their primary culture is now Occitan in the French culture group.
Sorry Arumba, don't mean to be that guy but the "Knights" were the knights hospitaller, very famously fought the Ottomans in the battle of Malta.
If he couldn't get the BBB achievement, then this will be very interesting, once again...
titanic95594 But at least he doesn't have a time limit
SpatsirkSpart In theory, he does. If Protestantism happens before he can form it, the decision will disappear, rendering this particular run a failure. :/
titanic95594 Why would that even happen (Sometimes EU4 just doesn't make sense)
Qimodis Why?
Qimodis Can't find anything. Just give me a link. And on the actually achivment it doesn't says anything. (But I have never played as Cyprus or Knights so I don't know how the decision works)
well shit... commenting on last episode (op swedenderp) about what series would be fun/wanted :P

nice series.
cyprus is eastern tech group, so knights is good choise
the main reason to play as the knights: western tech
Also, the knights are western tech.
did anyone notice at 17:14 there's a decision to "form french nation"?
Duck yes I hope you do well
Try the'Basileous' achivment. You havn't done Byzantium in a long time. I would love him to 1. have to do an Iron-man start and 2. see how it goes with common sense

Don't you auto-collect in your home port (without a merchant)?
What's up with the decision to form the French Nation at 17:11?
when i tried this, the ottomans first mission was to take the last crusader bastion (ie me)
once played a game as Pomerania (i wanted to reform to Prussia then become Germany) And the knights with the help of Venice attacked and full siege Hungry.
You can beat them as an OPM -- if you are DDRjake. :^)
are you going to try the big blue blob again?
YAS!
Hey arumba are u a full time UA-camr
seth colemen yes he is, he uploads very frequently and at regular hours.
Play a non ironman game spawn in Jan Mayen and then tag switch to them it would be fun
Tomos Williams Pretty sure that's Vic 2 only. Correct me if I'm wrong.
+SpecialJ11 They added a cheat to spawn Jan Mayen to EU4. It's fucking strong.
ThexVictorx isn't Jan Mayen just a little island? how can it be strong? how can you play as it? xD
BrianDMS It spawns in random province in Europe and it has a lot of buffs, so it can even conquer half of Europe.
ThexVictorx Wait, what? O.o You're saying that you can make an island 'nation' of Jan Mayen spawn in the middle of Europe somehow? xD How?
To be honest in the region of the game, Constantinople leads to an almost assured step toward victory
Hey Arumba , which map improvement mod are you using in this video?? Thanks
"It's very difficult, how are we gonna do this"
