Soloing and improvisation are they the same thing?

Not exactly the same but closely related. Improvisation is an act of soloing on the spot, right on the go. Soloing is a general term for making melody with scales, phrases, licks etc over a chord progression or over a song which may be memorized and predetermined. But Improvisation is not predetermined nor memorised before playing. you are composing your solos right on the spot. When we get to the act of improvisation proper, you will experience the difference and how to master both.
