  • My Honest Story of Depression on My First Merchant Navy Ship!
I'm opening up and sharing my dark, yet transformative, story of my first-time experience as a cadet on a merchant navy ship. Join me as I delve into the challenges, the lessons, and the growth that unfolded during this intense journey.
Being away from home for the first time as a cadet in the merchant navy was a rollercoaster of emotions. I experienced homesickness like never before, longing for the familiar comforts of my loved ones. The isolation and unfamiliar environment tested my mental resilience, pushing me to my limits.
The ship's demanding nature brought forth tough experiences that tested both my physical and emotional strength. I encountered setbacks, faced unexpected injuries, and confronted moments of self-doubt. However, it was within these moments of darkness that I discovered the power of perseverance and the resilience of the human spirit.
Amidst the challenges, I underwent a profound spiritual awakening. The vastness of the sea and the solitude it offered became a canvas for self-reflection and introspection. I discovered inner strength and a deeper connection with myself, realizing that true growth often emerges from the depths of our struggles.
In this video, I'll share the valuable lessons I learned from this dark chapter of my life. From overcoming adversity to finding the light within, I'll delve into the transformative journey that shaped me into the person I am today. Join me as I recount my experiences and offer insights on building mental resilience and finding spiritual solace amidst the storm.
If you've ever faced tough times, felt homesick, or embarked on a journey that tested your limits, this video is for you. Together, let's explore the depths of the human spirit and discover the strength that lies within us all.

Very impressive, you have to be proud of yourself for being able to express your feelings in this way.
You know i have been a sailor myself, and i am sure most of us have been through the same emotions from time to time, but your way of explaining is unique.
Now you have been at sea for many years,, and I am certain you have had many ups and downs, but with your understanding of have life at sea is, you will find that your life over time will be better and better, because you understand how your mind is function and thereby you will be able to deal with whatever comes your way

I can vividly remember my first voyage as a Deck Cadet in 1980. It was a tough time. Back then we had no mobile phones / laptops for keeping in touch with family via FaceTime and other apps. I joined the ship. No communications with home except for the odd letter. 8 long months then passed before I went home for the the first time. I never totally got used to the long periods of isolation and almost total lack of contact with home.

A very touching and heartfelt video. It makes you think about what someone feels when they are far away from their family and friends for the first time. And it shows that the mind plays a very big role. As a young person, being confronted with so many new things, your fear and insecurity all at once is very difficult to bear. But then you have to learn to accept the situation as it is and come out of it stronger for the future. You can be proud of yourself for having mastered this difficult time, and you are now what you are now. A strong, proud and self-confident young man. And your family and girlfriend are proud of you. 👏💪🙌💯

Such stories are heartening, especially for those of us who suffer from lifelong depression and fight it every day.
I am seventy years old, and I am still fighting it. Sometimes it lifts off from me. But it always comes back. It's been with me for so long now, that, although not a friend, it is a close acquaintance. Almost like a baby one can never put down but must carry around all the time.

I can concur with what you said, I had the similar feeling but more feeling very humble and small at times, one whole month of not seeing land made me feel very down but the evening before landfall we had a supper to celebrate land the next day and was i happy to see the skyline of mountains and lights that represented people. My 1st ship was also a container ship Cape Town to Japan via Singapore, Hong Kong and the whole Japan coast, and as you said, the 1st time you take way to much stuff, and when i got into the ship and had to take a lift i was impressed at the sheer size of the ship. Once you have worked on a ship you see it very different to others that have not worked on a ship. I learnt a very big lesson on my 1st trip as Electrical Officer and that was of Teamwork and how important it is for you sanity and acceptance of others and still carry this with me to this day and i was on ships for only a year 1987-88. 3 ships in total and I prefered General cargo (tramping) to that of container.

It seems your experience has given you strength, your faith in God showed you the way! The book of Proverbs gives me reassurance when I get to feeling low. Thank you for sharing your feelings.

Hey Karan, that depression that you speak about is a dangerous thing ... I have been though it myself in OTHER tricky situations, and when you reach out to your faith... there is NO other feeling/thing that can help you ... ONLY you faith and I must commend you on relying on your faith 😇

Karanvir, you have a mission! In the many videos you have posted you have shared subtle glimpses of your spiritual connection which have always left me with a desire to learn more. It becomes evident how your Divine relationship guides you in your work ethics, love of nature and life attitudes in general. Do not be afraid to share more of this gift within you. You may underestimate how you can benefit so many people by sharing your spiritual moments and how you go about it. It can be non-denominational. It doesn't matter. The important thing is to provide your experience to bring out the Divine upon us. Thank you for your generous teachings and God bless you! 🙏
