Straight weight is like missionary: it's fine in the beginning, but once you have some experience you have to mix it up to get the job done.

I just started using bands (thank you Matt for showing me how to set up) and I swear it only took weeks to see a difference.

On my last training cycle I was focused on bringing my OHP up, and at mid cycle I shifted over to pin pressing to address my sticking point. By far the hardest and most humbling strength training I've ever done, and the progress in no way matched the effort I put in. Next go around I'll be doing banded OHP to erase that sticking point, and I'll see that works better.

Ohp a great way to mess up your shoulders !! Get your bench up and watch ohp will rise

@@WenningStrength I'm benching for the first time in a few years now. My shoulders were pretty jacked up (legit injuries), and I spent the last year rehabbing them so I can bench press effectively without the risk of injury. I used the OHP as a gauge. I figured if I could get back to an advanced level on the OHP, my shoulders would be rock solid, they seem to be. Maybe I dodged a bullet of further shoulder injuries, haha.

Perfect video timing. Started today and for the next 10-12 weeks I'm using bands on my bench and deadlift. No straight weight at all. I trained straight weight for awhile, I'm curious to see how/if using bands makes a difference when I go to retest my bench and deadlift max after the 10-12 weeks

Competing again in December, hit 215 with 15 lb chains for 8 at probably an RPE 7 this morning. I love chains and can't wait to see where my bench is come December, hoping to smash my 308 lb PR!

    Awesome video Matt!!
Do you/or anyone you know have any information on testosterone and recovery with LEOs? Currently doing 6 week rotations between night shift and day shifts (12hr shifts). I feel like I’ve had to ramp up other areas with recovery to counteract the lack of sleep I get, which is probably killing my testosterone.

Hey Matt at the moment I only have access to a straight bar.. Would you do something along these lines, for a RECREATIONAL LIFTER?
3, 3 week waves at 75/80/85% (straight weight, because no bands, chains or specialty bars, yet) starting with my weakest squat variant the zercher squat working to front squat then switch to the back squat, (all done on a box that gets me below parallel). I would then test my regular squat and start over with other variations. This of course would be done on "dynamic" day. Same thought process to upper body.
do you think this is any good for now?
