Set up Google My Business for the church. Was contacted about 2 weeks later by Google (appropriately verified) and was told it will cost $150 to keep the data posted. It is a one time fee, but fee ain't free.
Jeff, Google My Business is completely free - just check the first FAQ at this link: www.google.com/intl/en_ca/business/resources/. Perhaps this was another company - not Google - asking for that money.
Yeah, after a bit of thought, I realized that most reputable large companies like Google, Microsoft, etc don't make house calls, even if there's something they need to contact you about the ONLY reason they'd call would be because they have no other method. And frankly, Google does not have a great reputation for "customer service". Yeah, answers are out there, but usually through blogs and forums, not from Google itself. At least that's been my experience. I should have suspected a scam right off. I will give props to the scammer though. Very well done social engineering script. I *know* better and fell for it.
