Harvesting kale can be done one of two ways: a cut and come again style where you only remove the largest leaves, allowing the plant to grow, and removing the entire plant (as I do in this video). Harvest early in the morning for best flavor and crispness. If you're harvesting a lot of kale at once, enjoy this quick and easy kale chips recipe:
    Kale
    Salt, pepper, smoked paprika
Enough olive oil to lightly coat the surface of each leaf
Bake at 350F for 12-15 minutes until lightly crispy, then enjoy!

I mostly just sautee it, but I've been making a lot of creamy soup with vegetables lately. I toss in sauteed onions, boiled potatoes and a green vegetable of choice into a blender, and then heat it in a soup pot with a bit of butter, low fat milk, salt, pepper, and some corn starch to a boil, top it off with truffle olive oil and then garnish with parsley.

Hi Kevin! I make my best friend’s Sri Lankan kale recipe, which is one of the most delicious ways to cook greens in my opinion. Sautée onions with some mustard seed, shredded coconut, garlic, turmeric powder, salt and pepper until the onions are translucent. Then toss in chopped up kale and mix as it cooks for a couple of min. When it wilts, it’s done!

Love kale in smoothies, soups and pasta sauce. It’s a great way to get kids eat greens. And when they ask what the green flecks are I say Basil 😂. I love to garden and slowly getting better at it. Kale is one of the first things I grew and love how easy it is. After watching several of videos I better know how to keep the pests off. I would bring it in the house, put in water and out comes spiders and slugs 😖.

Hi Kevin, Funny I just sat down with my curly kale, brocoll and pea soup I made last night . It's very popular in our house. I start out making bone broth and let that cook 24 hours on low. Then I remove the bones and put the kale with stems in the blender with water to blend, drain water and add kale to bone broth approximately 4 bundles of kale. Meanwhile in a separate pan I cook broccoli till tender and add it to the soup final step add peas let simmer about an hour and what you have is one fabulous power soup to die for. I hope you try it. Your garden is so beautiful. I have kale growing right now. I'm so new at gardening I've not even had a harvest yet. I became a "gardener" in the virus lock down. I love learning and wow there's much to learn. I've had copperheads in my compost pile tarantula looking spiders at my feet, and yes just as big. And all the videos I watch on you tube it looked so easy. Still all that said, I love it. I want it so bad. When I wake up I can't wait to get out there and grow. So you sharing your knowledge means so much to so many people and I for one thank you very much! From georgia, yeah georgia clay country, don't forget the rocks!!! Cathy

Good video! I will have to try the chips recipe. btw: You can easily shorten the ammount of time needed to get rid of the stems by putten the stem in the hole at the bottom end of a ladle and just pull the stem through, all the curly leaves will fall of. I've learned this trick myself from my neighbour in our previous home.

If you had chickens, they would probably eat your kale stems; but, when I make kale chips, I try to leave the leaf as whole as possible. I just use my dehydrator to make my kale chips. They are plain, so no oil or seasons. I keep them in a clamp jar and use them crumbled up in soups and stews. I even crush the kale up in scrambled eggs. Any food where you could use dried parsley, you can use dried kale.

Essentially I do kale chips on the stove top. I do a Medium heat, add fresh garlic cloves. Slowly adding un Salted butter so the kale does not burn. When it's to that kale chip texture I top it off with parmesan cheese. It's highly addictive. Wished I had grown more then 1 kale plant this year.

I planted Lacinato Kale this year, probably a bit too late because our raised beds were not ready until the week before Memorial Day (so I'm keeping my fingers crossed -- thankfully it has been unseasonably cool here). So my question is, do I prune laminate (dinosaur kale) the same way as the curly kale? Also, general comment for you. I have recommended them to my gardening friends, AND. your book just arrived this week! I also want to tell you that I love your videos because they are quick and informative, and you have a great personality for UA-cam/TV. YUMMY! Kevin, your making me hungry for some kale chips now! It reminds me of oven baked cauliflower, I've tried purple and it was so delicious. I've recently tired growing some kale from seeds with my kids and nothing grew! Aww I was looking forward to eating kale. I LOVE to make copycat Zuppa Toscana soup (from OG with potatoes, sausage and plenty of KALE). I've made it on the stove in a large dutch oven and also in the crock pot (lazy style-which as a busy mom, I'm so ok with). I got my Zuppa recipe from Damn Delicious (seriously its so good! Everything I've tried onher website and cook book is AMAZING!!) Well looking forward to try growing kale again! PS- I've also tried Grinch Juice (a sneaky way for mom's to get more veggies in smoothies for kids). It's spinach or kale blended with either orange juice or lemon juice & ice. Kale is awesome frozen because you can sprinkle it in dishes and get picky eaters to gobble it down!

There was something kind of magical about giving a specific number, like you were a powerful garden wizard revealing the secrets to us, or a gardening spiritual leader imparting your mystical blessing. I still hit the like button, but it was fun pretending like it would actually give me 20 years of great kale luck.

Save a handful of that pre-baked kale and put it on top of a pizza with some red pepper flakes. You're essentially making kale chips baked on top of a pizza. YUM!

23 seconds in and I’m only the 10th like lol
ETA, I’ve been told if you massage it, it becomes a bit more tender. My coworker used to make this amazing kale salad with quinoa 🤤

No expert, but sharing a couple things I observed with kale: 1. In a REALLY small garden space, I'm going to rethink planting kale and trade up/prioritize those that are most costly to buy, and 2. you can save the arduous knife work and simply slide the leaves off the stalk from the top down. :)

I never grew kale. We eat kale only in the real dutch meal: “stamppot boerenkool”
It is mostly just cooked potatoes and cooked kale mashed into each other. Usually in my region a bit of milk goes in there too. And we get a “rookworst” (smoked sausage?).
Stamppot has a lot af varieties: Union & carrot, sauerkraut, Union & apple, and way more.

Saute kale and sweet pie pumpkin with some fresh onion and garlic, also I always add chopped kale to my tomato-based spaghetti sauce along with fresh basil and garlic.

I haven't grown it lately, the last time I used it in salads and froze it when getting older to put in smoothies .

I think I started my kale and bok choy too late. They haven't really grown in past 2 inches in 3 weeks. Oh well. This was my first garden in GA. I'll try again in a month or two when the heat of the summer is over.

I copied a Kale Salad that I had at Jimbo's. Dino Kale, green onions, red cabbage finely sliced. Carrots large grate. They used dried cranberries and pumpkin seeds but I like raisins and sunflower seeds. Easy dressing is apple cider vinegar, whole grain mustard and a little vegan mayo spread. Just the kale, green onions, red cabbage and carrot keeps covered very well in the refrigerator and then add the others as you eat it.
