    We have always built our coops up off the ground to prevent 'dig ins' also. Literally never had a predator break into any of our 4 coops in all 7 years of chicken keeping.

    Coop is very close to the trees and woods. Can't believe you don't have birds of prey in the trees watching the chickens.
    IMO, the ONLY way to be 100% predator free is the great coop you have and wiring over top of the chicken run. But most people don't do this for whatever reason.
    One thing that really gets me is, DIY homesteaders will import various types of farm animals onto their property BEFORE they build the PROPER structures to mitigate attacks by predators. In fact, many haven't completed the build of their cabin prior to having animals. And like you said, most animals are no match for a predator and these animals are at the mercy of their owners concern, care and intelligence regarding guarding against predators. THese people should not be allowed to have animals IMO.

      We have been lucky about that, they do have 3 different places to hide under that has helped but I do agree, closer to trees and woods then we would like. Thank you for watching and the great tips!

    Holy cow. I click on a video to see how to keep predators away from my chickens and I get a video of a guy flirting with his chickens for minutes as he teases at giving an answer.

    My Great Pyrenees and American Pitbull do a great job watching my chickens and my neighbors chickens.

    Thank you! beautiful animals, very nice coop! Our niece dog was just attacked by a coyote, about the same size as your little one. He survived because family was close, but had to go to the vet for treatment. We've had chickens since 2014, cats, raccoons, possoms, visit nightly. only one issue when the coop was left open one morning.

    Great content and helpful ideas. I'd like to add to it. Put deer or bird netting around your chicken fencing and over the top. We've been able to keep hawks out (one literally sits feet from our run just trying to figure a way in 😬.) We've had 3 6ft snakes get stuck in the netting too. I'm really thankful for the netting. God bless you and your family ❤️

      Great tip! We have such a big area and it would be a huge net! But I do think it’s great for people looking to have ultimate protection

    I have two dogs. We clean up after them and place it around the perimeter of our yard. I believe it helps keep predators out. Wed don't do the whole property because it's almost 48 acres. But we do have coyotes bobcats and many other predators.

    • @AcresOfAdventure
      @AcresOfAdventure  Рік тому

      That’s a great idea, I don’t blame you for not putting them around all 48 acres 🙈

    Tip...put a rubber sheet flap over the handle to keep it dry and not freeze. Always Make sure auto doors have a way to open manually. Good video and nice Coop

      I have 3 pyres. They actually guard mammals and not designed for chickens. Mine can't handle chickens. So they are not in the run with them. But like he said his dogs patrol and add scent around the yard. Mine are great at chasing off coyotes - they are high fenced. But their bark keeps them at bay. Hope you have a wonderful time with your pyrs. Amazing breed. Mine practice take downs all day long - wrestlers and very serious at it.

    We're getting started with a similar sized lot. How is your Great Pyrenees with strangers and with your neighbors? I'm nervous getting a livestock guardian dog with only 2.5 acres and worried whenever I have company the dog can be protective. Also, I'm nervous my neighbors will hate me if the dog barks a lot

    • @AcresOfAdventure
      @AcresOfAdventure  Рік тому

      Well he sure barks a lot and loud when guarding outside. But he does great with people especially when we are with him he would never attack a person when we are with him

    I have the same type of rooster, but he has been handled since birth, yet he is still protective. But unlike yours, he is a bit selfish and would eat before the hens.
