Epic! Epic! Happiness is an hour and 12 minutes of Danger Marine! I'll be following Brupeg from now on. The vegi oil experiment is fascinating. It's all about the preheat system bringing the oil to the right viscosity. In the 80's I helped restore a 300' WW2 Knaught ship. It had a 6 cylinder Norberg diesel (Of course it was 15 ft high and 30 ft long), it had crude oil tanks (Bunker fuel) along the kneel which feed a smaller tank with heat exchangers to preheat the fuel then into an oil-water separator before entering individual injection pumps to each cylinder head. It was all 1940's technology but that ship is still operating today used for charitable work around the world.

Mate love your work. Came to Australia from NZ 1988. Ended up in Cairns as I was a fisherman back home and heard about prawn trawling jobs plentiful up there. First job I got as a deckhand was on the Brupeg, named after original owners Bruce and Peggy. Great to see almost 40years later she's been treated so we'll. Hi Stu,
You have a new subscriber as does Brupeg!
    What an amazing project!
My boat is a 32 foot Jeanneau Merry Fisher 925 (which would probably make a great tender for Brupeg!) which is a bit of a toy boat by comparison, but she is my pride and joy.
I will be binge-watching all the back episodes of both yours and Brupegs stories.
I am completely in awe of you guys and wish you all the best with your projects.
    Greetings from Merseyside, UK!

On the sea going Tugs that I worked on we had "Channel Coolers" basically what you have are plates (maybe 2" deep by 12" wide by however long is needed) running lengthwise down the hull with as many circuits as needed. This system is really bullet proof as they are very heavy plate and can take a bunch of abuse. Whenever we were out of the water, all of the Blocks were actually on the Coolers, just to show you how strong that can be. If your interested let me know and I'll get you some more information. Please keep the great videos coming!

I owned an early 3 door Discovery diesel, old fashioned 2 1/4 lump, but that ran on new fresh cooking oil I got in bulk.. started first time every time but in winter I put a splash of Unleaded in to make it unable to get too thick.. exhaust smelt like a chip shop though - lol.. I have more than 45 years at sea, i started as a deckylearner and worked my way up to Captain for the last 17 years before retiring, I have worked on all size vessels from rowing boats to 50meter supertrawler, mostly in the fishing industry but had a good few years in oilrig standby and supply.
Any wiring in control boxes, charging and almost anything is always best on the deckhead(roof for non seamen) not on the deck(floor)and in the centre not at the sides, any small amount of water in that hold will get into those control boxes as the boat rolles from side to side as it will travel along the deck and up the bulkhead. If you take a look round almost any profesionaly built boat/ship you will see that control panels of any type are usually suspended and towards the centre line not on the outside hull as in a big roll can be lower than the deck.

Some thoughts you might like to pass on. I worked as a fitter on the yearly refit of L'Astrolabe, the French ice breaker supply ship for their Antarctic base. She was a modified oil rig supply ship, they cut a large section out of the bow and fitted a sloping 80 mil plate into it to enable it to ride up on the ice. The rear deck was completely covered by a solid steel shed for want of a better description and was for cargo. The hull had any number of water intakes but all were flush with the hull to allow ice, free passage. The hull had deep gouges, ( 1 to 2 mil deep, look like cut with a lathe tool) around the bow and the taper to the props at the stern, we had to pull the shafts to xray them because of ice hits on the props. I asked the skipper, a salty old dog indeed, why the props did not have some form of guard and he explained that it had been tried and failed because the ice bent the guards onto the props. Most times the helmsman would hear a big piece scraping the stern and feather the props, but there was a constant banging of smaller pieces hitting the blades. So thought one is that shield has to go, imagine a half ton of very cold ice jamming its nose in there. I also suspect in might cause cavitation in very rough seas.
Thought two, the amount of glass on the boat. L'Astrolabe had a very high foredeck section, with the wheelhouse atop it, you have seen them no doubt. I asked the skipper about the about the 80 mil plate glass in the forward facing windows, he explained it was not unusual to have green water hit them, the side windows were thinner, the only other holes she had in her were portholes on the lower wheelhouse section which I think was accommodation. Bloody marvellous adventure but never underestimate the destructive power of the southern ocean.

I have about everything on my bucket list checked off but I really wanna go to Australia spend about 2 months traveling the countryside. And if I could do that bring in my own Jeep that would make it all the better. Beautiful video love watching the boat projects..

My 6yo daughter looking over my shoulder, shouts in my ear, "hey! that's our truck!" . Good to see someone else road tripping in a Perentie.

I like how you went straight to the engine room. That’s what I would do

Great swing out design for the door. I'd be sure to put two beefy hinge swing points on the door and be able to dog it secure for heavy seas. Great video!!

Another variant on keel cooling that may be suitable for you Stu is chine cooling, create extra chines along the hull using say 75 X 75 right angle steel welded directly to the hull and run your fresh water cooling through the chine. Not only do the two sides of the chine radiate heat but the entire hull plate also adds to the radiant surface area. Detroit in Adelaide built a house boat for the parent company Bowater Tutt that went onto the Hawkesbury river decades back using this system The boat ran a 3-71 as a main driving a hamilton jet drive. It only had one chine per side with an inboard bridge pipe from one chine to the other at the bow, I can't remember how long they were exactly, maybe 8 meters? Advantages, super cheap, as it's mainly off the shelf angle, zero snag risk, and it could actually help with stability on your boat.
    Cheers,
    Ray

Another great video Stu. Brupeg is such a big project so hats off to them for having the bottle to take it on. The hinges were clever stuff. Scale-wise the Dangar project is easier to take in for me, sort of more credible as less daunting.

Nice open roads and lots of sheep Australia is without doubt a wonderful country for sure. Nice upload enjoyable and entertaining, but hell your boat could be used as a life boat on that beast I can understand why it's taken 3 years and work still outstanding thanks for the upload best regards from a land lubber pom.😊
