It's incredible that it only took you about six hours to make cubane, really impressive work!
all just a good day at work. Took a 2 hour lunch break and still made cubane in a single day, it wasn't that hard
So proud of him he knocked it out over a weekend.
@@ExtractionsAndIre In a shed even
😂😂😂😂😂
Me: I'm gonna make a joke about how it only took him 6 hours
Also me: Oh for fuck's sake
I've made a wrap-up/Q&A video that i'll upload later today, just gotta fix some errors first. Plus you're obviously distracted for the next 5 hours 49 minutes anyway
Distracted from my sleep demons you mean!
Glad to see you alive and w... You. Keep being you. Keep chasing that cube. You are from down there after all. If you have any room left on that chalkboard- please scribble another pony on there- it might bring you luck.
Oh yeah just what I needed!
OOOhh i cant wait
Now that you’ve done your phd, could you maybe talk about whether or to whom you would recommend a major in chemistry (ignoring the ultimate betrayal of switching to physics, the dark side)
why do i feel so compelled to watch the whole series again just because you compiled it into one video?
my god
I have fallen asleep listening to this every day for a month and I can tell you, with my hand on my heart, I don't even know what Kurt Cobin is.
I thought this video was about mark cubane?
He wants to make Cubans (free of the USA)
I'm dying 😂
"It's a really quite approachable process"...Three years later, a micro-gram of Cubane. Love it!
seeing the first episode talking about how approachable the cubane synthesis is knowing it is followed by a three year journey of trials and tribulations is something else!
"Why solve your problems when you can just create new ones."
My life motto.👍👍👍
Do I want to watch almost 6 hours of an Australian man driving himself insane to synthesize a cube? Probably not. Will I watch it anyway? Yes. Very Yes.
5 hours 49 minutes of drama: hope, disappointment, failure, success. They should make a netflix documentary about this.
I only have 349.817 minutes to live the doctor said the only cure is witnessing cubane please pray for me 🙏🙏
no
Rest in peace
Exasperation & Tar
Me, when I smoke an entire pack of cigarettes at the bar.
For the HARDCORE backyard chemists, revisit all the trials and tribulations in one tasty morsel. Antacid not included.
*MAY CONTAIN TAR
I really thought you just made a 6 hour video from scratch before I've read the title
Maybe one day..... ok no a 6 hour video is too much. 1 hour is enough of a journey I think, 2 hours is already extreme haha
no matter the length, i will watch anything he makes, the chemistry + his comedy is just the perfect mixture for me
I'm 37 and my mom likes your videos
can u say hello for me
@ExtractionsAndIre Absolutely! Will update in a few.
@ExtractionsAndIre "Is he the guy who you tried to get me to watch make a cake or something?"
Nailed it!
I love getting to the UV step and knowing that the next 2 hours is fun but futile trouble shooting ahead of time.
It’s crazy to think that the first attempt might have just worked. Imagine!
Ey! No spoilers! 😂
I'll be honest, I'm not watching this all again. I'm still suffering the effects of ptsd from the original time line. But have my like and comment as a sacrifice to appease the yellow God.
'Now I've never done a UV reaction': great use of foreshadowing
53:50 Loans air pump to mate for home brew after vacuum distilling hydrocarbons.
“Not sure if it’s jaundice or tar, but Tom went yellow.” 😂
I love that you summarized the playlist into one journey. Thank you for your dedication Dr. Tom Shedbane
You keeping at this project through everything was unironically inspiring.
The best way to mark the span of time is that this goes from the "awkwardly holding a Rode shotgun mic" to "got an actual mic for holding and talking into" and ends in "got a wireless setup for my nice talking mic"
Tom fiddling with the short path distillation apparatus and breaking it is the best moment
Why am I excited at the beginning of this long video. I have seen all the series already. Still excited.
Oh, there's unpublished footage like vacuum distillation with a vacuum cleaner :D That gives a totally new meaning to vacuum distillation :D
Nothing is better than chemistry in an Australian shed
I dunno shit about chemistry but this is making me think I chose the wrong path in life. Cool channel dude.
I've been binging all of your videos while I've been stuck home sick. I haven't touched the cubane videos but I think I'll get to them now.
Ah yes, the complete series of ”Who will win, hydrocarbons forced against their God-given nature into a cube through eldrich alchemy, or one ’Straya boi?”
If I am tired I put you on in the background and I go right to sleep. A 5 hour video is what I needed!! Overall, amazing series I can’t wait for what is next.
"5 kilos of cubane" is a sentence that is really giving Scarface vibes, and it's not because of the word kilo I'm almost sure
Are there Cubane 2023 shirts? I want to celebrate this momentous occasion and I'm scared of needles so I can't do a tattoo.
had my organic chemistry test last week. Looking back at the whole reaction where i didn't understand a word and now understanding the mechanisms is an odd feeling. Also gives me a fight or flight instinct when i hear Diels-Alder reaction or any mechanism mentioned on the test
The stuff is co cool. it has potential for complex metal-organic framework (MOF) ion transfer in battery manufacturing
YEah doing cubane MOFs or cubane polymers is a cool idea. who knows where it will end up in the modern world?
Finally in one vid, never released it was like 6 hours, but love the videos keep up the great work. You are the reason that I am in the process of setting up my own home lab and doing some recreational chem.
5:39 "couple of weeks ago,... sure more than a couple of weeks at this point" lmao
I don't know what more crazy; the fact that I watched Tom fighting cubane for nearly 6 hours or the fact that I'm apparently doing it again.
I never found chemistry interesting or entertaining until seeing your videos. I love everything you’ve done and hope to see a lot more. Keep up the great work man!
I've already reached the first "don't touch the poison without gloves". Now I'm hoping for a few good "haytsch" before I fall asleep 🎉
5 years in the making. From down under studios... the story of a dirty aussie in a shed, and a sheep, and some stump remover. A story of love, passion, and cubes. CUBANE... REDUX! On UA-cam now!
I can still feel your enthusiasm, and you forced all the accounts with bottomless Ligma-Baldithch accounts to respond. That's a whole different win you can't weigh in impressions
6 hours of tar purification. Ill watch all of them
Cannabis chemistry in a nutshell
Fine, i will watch the compilation of videos that i have seen about 2-4 times each..
Bouts to fall asleep to this work of genius, then wake up and fail to find the spot I fell asleep at
bingeing the cubane series rn, as well as ur other vids, love the shed chemisty.
Hold up. Wait a minute?!? It’s been 4 years???? It feels like you just started this!
imagine the work behind all of this behind the scenes so he could have made this behemoth of a video...
great work mate!
Yay Australian Chemistry Man that blows up stuff!
I don't understand most of the science that isn't on an extremely surface level but genuinely look forward to seeing your videos show up in my notifications.
Crazy to watch this channel grow, man, it went from making random chemicals in the shed to what it is now, absolutely amazing to see nice work tom
I might not be able to watch it all this evening but I'll definitely be watching all of this again. What a journey that was. Cheers for seeing it though. The old chemistry saying sure was true, she ended up right. Also, aligning the drums and drips at 20:20 was a nice touch.
Thank you so much for uploading Cubane: The Movie(s). You are single-handedly helping me survive an extremely dull work day
Name a more iconic duo than home chemists and backyard crack shacks.
i can't wait to binge cubane
Diels-Alder reaction is quite important for a drug preparation and natural or natural-like products
The journey is the destination
It's very important in the scientific process to verify and reproduce the results of papers. Scooping is good and necessary! 🌈
honestly an excellent way to spend most of my day while being off work sick. i understood very little of the chemistry but i did have fun.
One mans descent into madness and his (partial) return.
At this point i am genhinley comvinced you and codyslab plan out your uploads and time them even though neither of you even have the cognitive ability to do so, you guys just upload at the samw time far far too often
Haha I wish we were that good at planning!
Oh damn, I've recently been using the playlist to fall asleep. This makes it easier.
Cheers Tom!
i cant be bothered to give a single solitary fuck about chemistry but god damn ive seen every single video of yours twice, some thrice ive watched the whole cubane series and to be honest i still don't know what cubane is. your videos and personality are amazing though so keep it up. the machine must be fed.
OMG YES THANK YOU FOR THE NEW GOONING BACKGROUND VIDEO🎉🎉🎉
WHAT THE SIGMA
This is the only thing I've been watching over the past couple days and I've finally finished it, I don't know what to watch now TwT
Congratulations man!
I think paying the two people who guessed 31% a few dollars is legal! Commenting on UA-cam is free, so it's not gambling. 🍄
In a different timeline, you never got that cheese toasty, and somehow someway the project worked first try
Tonight, I'm happy something woke me up in the middle of the night, so I could watch this as soon as it came out
"I have a thing I need to do in 6 hours and I need background noise to nap to."
*this video shows up in my feed*
Well I guess I'm listening to my favorite Australian chemist while I eepy.
I want this on loop in every room in my house.
Amazing now I can binge this repack. Excellent!
I love that between issuing the challenge of finishing first and announcing you've lost the race, absolutely no chemistry occured
no way you spent SIX HOURS trying to make cubane. It only took like 4, 20 minute episodes
Holy shit! I'll go ahead and leave a like, but I'll have to cycle back to this. I should have known 2+ years worth of chemistry was gonna be a big video
I have been waiting years for those 3 dust specks!
I work in a lab (like a not-shed lab) and we also reuse sieves!
Using this as my background noise for studying for my chem finals
Videos like these are a gentle reminder for me, that it was a good idea not to go into synthesis. This is horrifying
I mean, this basically still is an undergrad synthesis. Other than the UV step and the Favorskii, I'm pretty sure I did all of those reactions in my ochem lab course. Ketal formation, radical bromination, elimination, Diels-Alder, ketal deprotection.
YOU'RE GONNA RUN AN ENEMA?!?!
I got a C in gcse chemistry, i know fuck all outside of atomic stuff (physics gang)
Im still gonna watch this whole thing
Dude.. im gonna use this sleep aid for months😅
Less than one Russian day! ⭐️ This Is A Timeless Masterpiece ⭐️
congrats on your tar synthesis!
I have just started Breaking Bad for the first time. I watched this the night it was uploaded(last night) and fell asleep too it. I occasionally woke up and whenever I'd hear DMT I'd think it was some kind of drug and get incredibly confused thinking "what? No! I'm watching the homie. It's not drugs." happened multiple times as I slept.
6 hours of pain 😆
This is going to be amazing sleep aid, Australians are truly wonderful
Person Spends Most of a Decade in Shed Going Slowly Insane (Director’s Cut)
If I ever want to retire myself from living I will watch this and take a shot of vodka everytime he says tar😂
Maybe the Cuban was the friends we made along the way
HOLY SHIT 5 HOURS my good sir we dont deserve such generosity
the movie is out, let's gooo
Funny thing is the project took that long I've completely forgot why you started it 😂
Never have I had so much concern over what I know nothing about
i keep hearing "dipping acid" now I'm hungry for Salsa
You absolute madman. Also, hi! Glad to see another upload. Ah, so you.. oh. Ah. Well.
TLDR chemical origami is hard
This is a petition for an extended edition. You're still short of matching the LOTR trilogy (theatrical). Scrape some extras out of the hard drive and add a couple more hours of shots of you walking. That should do it
I was about to watch the epic sax guy 6 hour video when I saw this banger pop up in my feed, hell yeah
finally a place to watch 6 hours of making cubane
When my family asks what I do for a living I'm going to send them this.
When you do make Octanitrocubane in 40 years, make sure to condense the decades of work into a 15 minute video.
I keep watching parts of this. It would be a reasonable netflix show.
I LOVE CHEMISTRY
