Galadriel's Song

- I recorded this song years ago with a most primitive microphone on a very old computer. Please excuse the mediocre quality.
Galadriel's Song:
Ai! laurië lantar lassi súrinen,
Yéni únótimë ve rámar aldaron!
Yéni ve lintë yuldar avánier
mi oromardi lisse-miruvóreva
Andúnë pella, Vardo tellumar
nu luini yassen tintilar i eleni
ómaryo airetári-lírinen.
Sí man i yulma nin enquantuva?
An sí Tintallë Varda Oiolossëo
ve fanyar máryat Elentári ortanë
ar ilyë tier undulávë lumbulë;
ar sindanóriello caita mornië
i falmalinnar imbë met, ar hísië
untúpa Calaciryo míri oialë.
Sí vanwa ná, Rómello vanwa, Valimar!
Namárië! Nai hiruvalyë Valimar.
Nail elyë hiryva. Namárië!
Ah! like gold fall the leaves in the wind,
long years numberless as the wings of trees!
The long years have passed like swift draughts
of the sweet mead in lofty halls beyond the West,
beneath the blue vaults of Varda wherein the stars
tremble in the song of her voice, holy and queenly.
Who now shall refill the cup for me?
For now the Kindler, Varda, the Queen of the Stars,
from Mount Everwhite has uplifted her hands like clouds,
and all paths are drowned deep in shadow;
and out of a grey country darkness lies
on the foaming waves between us, and mist
covers the jewels of Calacirya for ever.
Now lost, lost to those from the East is Valimar!
Farewell! Maybe thou shalt find Valimar.
Maybe even thou shalt find it. Farewell!
It's been almost 10 years since the first time I hear you singing. Until today is by far my favorite version of Namärié. :)
I'm flattered that you enjoyed the song so much that you remembered it after all these years! Thank you for the compliment!
Me too
Thank you very much! I had heard Tolkien's version once, but when I went looking for the recording again, I couldn't find it anymore, so I wrote my own version of the melody. I'm glad you find it reminiscent of the original.
ua-cam.com/video/RkuHrD_xlJY/v-deo.html 13 years late, but hope you will see this :)
her hair was of shining gold, her face was fair and young and fearless and full of joy, her eyes were bright and keen, AND HER VOICE LIKE MUSIC...
Your voice is like a morning walk in a dew covered meadow to a quiet lake. Glistening in the first light of a new day. Thank you...
Hello, found this while I was searching for renditions of Namárië and I wished to say how beautiful your voice is, i ‘lim lín suiñ-glim idh-rodyn, te dae vain. Melin i ‘lîr hen eithro. Agórel vae!
You were truly inspired ! One of my three favourite versions, from all . Simple , yet very elvish . Thank You.
I identify with Galadriel . I admire her majesty , her kindness and compassion, her empathy . Her power to confront evil. Her, ability to save lives Her healing. I hope I have qualities like these.
OMG! Your pronunciation and voice are perfect for this. Thank you!
Utterly beautiful. I don't speak either Quenya or Sindarin, but I'd love to learn. Your voice carried it perfectly, like it's your mother tongue. Gorgeous!
Nicely Done! This is one of the best versions here, thank you for posting this ... "old microphone" and all.
This is how i think Galadriel was singing that day in Lorien, more than 6000 years ago
Amazing to hear the Elvish language sung like this. Thank you, Kathilisi, for uploading this gem, & thank you, Sue, for linking me to it in the Book of Faces ~ (•8-D
Just so you know, my mouth is hanging open right now. I've never heard anyone so gifted. The way you can make the words flow... its amazing! I'm a bit of a singer myself, but this song would take me at least a week to master, even if I new how to pronounce the words correctly, which I don't. You're incredible! Oh and one last thing... TOLKIEN'S A GENIUS!!!
@nr367 Really? I just searched for that song (sensommer visen) here on youtube, and I can't find many similarities. It's a beautiful song though... makes me wish I could speak Danish!
As for the melody... I actually had a faint memory of a recording of this song (Namarie) by J.R.R. Tolkien himself, but I couldn't remember it exactly. That served as an inspiration for this song, but mostly I just made up the melody as I went along.
Thanks for commenting!
Yeeess! This is how its done! I can smell the woods and hear the river. I've come across a few songs inspired by the Eldar, but yours seems to be the most beautiful and authentic. Its like someone crept up and recorded one in the forest. :) Well done.
Írima! Wunderschön! The melody fits comfortably with the words, and you sing it quite beautifully. Tolkien himself has actually composed this as a Gregorian-type chant. That's why I myself haven't tried to compose this poem, although I've done so to various other poems of Tolkien. But your composition is quite simple, reminscent of Tolkien's version, so thank you for your creativeness!
Going through my old files and found this one. Still love it.
this is the best rendition of this song i have heard......your voice carries on the wind of this song.
Gorgeous. I'm on the way to learning Quenya and this helps. Your pronunciation is great. I'm probably going to have this song stuck in my head now.
Your voice! It's wonderful! Even through this primitive computer tech, I can still hear it's quality. Galadriel would be proud to have here song sung by you
this is hte best rendition of this song i have heard......your voice carries on the wind of this song.
This is better than I imagined, reading the book. You have a beautiful voice.

Lovely voice, lovely selection. Thank you for doing and posting this!
I really love this, thank you.
Sounds like a christmas carol at the start makes me feel jolly
Wow. Elvish pronunciation. Without drawing out the vowels to help sound like you know what you're doing...you /do/ know what you are doing.
And I love the tune. Very good!
I love your voice, and the beaty of the song is amazing. Great job!
i love your melody so much, because its really easy to follow and sing along to
Perfect! Now if we could just get some music to go along with that wonderful voice of yours... =)
@Kathilisi Wow, that's amazing! I was trying to remember which of the films it was from. Your pronunciation is pretty convincing and your singing very good. I love the tune you composed. I couldn't decide whether it was complicated or easy (I'm a musician and have experience composing) :)

Hát az lehet, de tényleg gyönyörű :D.
epic song :)
Were did you learn to speak Elvish. could you send me a link to were you did please. it sounds so beautiful.
amazing :_ )
Keep in mind while you listen to this that Tolkien believed he was recording this world. It was not a product of his imagination in other words. He once said that he was "Given things…already there, somewhere."
Shit son you have a bloody amazing voice!
@GoddessElvina Exactly, I totally agree with everything you said.
wonderful..!!!
your voice is so sweet... it seemed to be sang by a true elf!!!!
did you write the music by yourself? it's impressive how it goes well with the words...
You know that this language never was spoken?
It´s Quenya, an Elven Language developed by Tolkien ;)
I agree with you that its very beautiful
Wow nice sing
Yes, although "composed" is a bit strong, I guess... I just read through the poem a few times and then sang it with this melody that seemed to fit the phrases. Thanks for listening! :-)
Your Quenya is beautiful.
Hanon Le!
@Sinuriel It's Quenya/Elvish from "Lord of the Rings".
Well sung!
Wery beautiful song :)
This language is Magyar or Elven ?
yes yes... my intentions were to tell u that u are not worthy of tokien's work, that is untill i heard the lament that u improvised into your own version, and ill tell you... thats what its all about, making it sound AUTHENTIC.You did this and appluad you for a job well done!5 stars
theres sites of elvish dictionaries. and online classes on how to speak and pronounce sindarian and quenya. im still learning though
Mediocre quality ?! Are you kidding, lady Kathilisi ?
It is a wonderful voice and song, even though the computer you used was old.
