This movie was something else. So refined and sophisticated yet so emotionally raw. Made me long for a true relationship.
Can Western critics please stop acting like Korean cinema was nothing before Parasite? This guy laid the foundations of the movement with Oldboy, way back in 2003, and now critics act like he's riding Bong Joon-Ho's success? Hell, even Joon-Ho has referenced Park as the true leader of this movement.
I know it's a minor gripe, but it's a sad reflection of Western media that we're about twenty years behind things, and only accept them once we decide to award one. (Despite the fact a Best Picture should have gone to Korea a long time before Parasite.)
That gripe aside, Chan-Wook Park never fails to deliver and I'm really excited for this.

Even before Oldboy, there was Mr. Vengeance, Mrs. Vengeance, JSA... Park Chan-Wook almost always delivered top class films.
@@karga23 Only JSA and Mr. Vengeance. Miss Vengeance came after. (Third part of the vengeance trilogy.)
But yeah, those first two are also great. Oldboy is just the one that became really big and truly launched the movement.

Park Chan-wook should start to be included into the discussion of "Greatest Director's of All-Time" list! He's still relatively young as well, so he, more than likely, will direct a handful of more films!
Films like this capture the true essence of cinema. Koreans always loved to paint a tortured picture of human psyche and Park does a reminiscent job of what it was like to behold mystery infront of a cinematic mirror. Good film

I watched this in Taiwan. Tense but also so much fun to watch. So far the best of the year in my opinion. Everything in its right place.
Watched it twice in France, a very elegant and complex movie

I have seen it in korea last month, you wont be disappointed. Its one of Park's best films
I'm a Korean. I saw this movie 3 times in the theater. This movie is in my top 5 of my life. It's a pity that English speakers can't feel the attractive Chinese-Korean pronunciation of the heroine
@@otdk Aparrently Tang Wei worked with two different Korean tutors to make sure her dialogue was correct.
@@riffgroove watch out for the subtleties of the korean/chinese translations that the films shows u, i thought (as an english speaker) that they were really clever!

Since you have watched the film can you explain why the steps shown in that old lady phone was only 136 when she traveled too far away or it was subtitle mistake
@@jagratrajrana I was confused in that part too, and it's not subtitles mistake. Imo the climbing one doesn't count and that bus ride.

This is just a perfect film. It's definitely going to win best international feature at the Oscars!!!!

I am a big fan of director Park since his movie 'Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance'.
It is so regretful that I watched 'Decision to leave' in the theater one time only.

I saw it on June 29th in Korea. It was better than Old Boy. It's the best of Park Chan-wook's movies.

Truly a great film. I've never seen any of the directors other work but i heard some could be a little extreme on the violence. While this movie had none of that, after the credits started rolling (though really five minutes before it) i wished it had been a graphic movie. Like way to break my heart. I would absolutely watch this movie again and again but damn, the pain is real.
Watch the vengeance trilogy (starting with Oldboy) I've followed him ever since that movie was released, it was a masterpiece.
I still listen to the sound track today 20 years later.

I just don't get why the Academy seemingly hates Park so much. "The Handmaiden" should have swept the technical Oscars back in 2016 only to get ignored for some exceptionally banal contenders and this lost out on what should have been an easy International Feature nomination.

According to the director Park Chan-Wook, the story is built (adjusted) after the main character casting is done, that’s how China comes into the story: to cast Tang Wei. Their chemistry made the movie much richer.

I'm Chinese. I've seen this exciting movie. This movie is definitely better than handmaiden, and I'm very proud of Chinese actress tangwei. She shows her acting skills like a oscar best actress in this film. I hope all the people can watch this movie if you have a chance. It will be the next parasite

For y'all lookin forward to checkin this one out, it's very very different most of Park's other movies!!
It's basically a love story told over the course of 2 murder investigations, and they're very very similar to one another. Alot of people say the 2nd half drags because they don't expect to go through a different murder mystery that's nearly the same as the first, but the interesting part is getting into their romance!!
every scene reveals another layer to their very, very strange relationship, and if you're not into the love story, or you don't buy it, then you most likely won't enjoy the film. that being said, this is my absolute fave of the year!

I have watched everything except the 1st movie , this one is not on my top list for sure , I think there is something lost in translation , I don't get it this time , it's a love story that didn't get me .
@@RED01SEA Director Park Chan-wook said that he makes the next movie unlike the previous one. As if Handmaiden showed direct love, DTL shows ambiguous love. Film critic Lee Dong-jin commented on DTL: "Like the dress of Seo-rae that look blue and green, this movie sinks deep into our hearts between pending and eternal." DTL is certainly a masterpiece, but of course, reviews can be divided according to individual preferences. I personally love this movie.
