I’m a newbie. Been stacking for two months. Keeping it simple. Just ASE, generic rounds, and constitutional (NOT junk). Don’t trust banks anymore. Saving for a rainy day
I’m just getting started (about a year) collecting coins. Your video was very helpful to me. The information was much more than I expected. Thanks so much. 🥇❤️
Listen to Salivate beginners. Start out with Eagles or rounds or bars. Don’t pay mor than 2.50 over for Eagles and .99 for rounds/bars. Once you are educated you can venture. If you are buy small quantities there are many dealers online. Large orders should go to large dealers like Provident, JM Bullion, their sister company Silver.com, APMEX, Gainesville, and SD Bullion. No worries with these dealers. Keep buying.
Actually, the best advice may be to understand why you want to buy silver in the first place. This understanding is actually more complex than I think most new stackers seem to think. One of the best ways to buy bullion of any sort from an online dealer if one is buying just for weight is to buy the cheapest generic items in the largest quantity at a time that one possibly can since in the vast majority of cases a buyer will be paying higher prices for smaller quantities....larger quantity purchases = prices closest to spot. This generally means that one should save their money for a period of time until they can afford to buy the larger quantity at a discount price. If you are buying coins, medals, bars, or other items to collect, then the above strategy is irrelevant.....buy what you like when you want and don't worry about potentially getting the item for a few pennies less later. For example, when I purchased my Furtitude rounds because I want to support the Salivate Metal channel (and because it's a very cool looking round that I want to have in my permanent collection) I didn't worry at all about whether or not spot might drop in a few months....I just put them in my cart and paid and anxiously awaited delivery! Keep up the good work, Sal!
Thanks so much my friend. Yes, there are certainly different strategies, even when buying the generic ones. My video was made on the assumption that the beginner had already understood why they want to buy. But, you're right. It is a complex decision and it can shape your buying. Thank you again for your thoughts and kindness.
Great advice Sal. I am a new stacker and once you have a good understanding go to local auctions. You will not know what is there but it is fun. I saw the kitty I am going to win.
While I would usually recommend that most people stick with stacking for weight and purity, and avoiding any "numismatic" coins, mainly due to the fact that if you've got to get rid of it quickly at some point in the future, you'll have to get what you can get for it. That's cool for generic bullion, or national mint bullion...but that'd seriously nybble dawnkee ballce if you've got to accept spot for something you paid $189.95 to get "because it's graded and in a slab." Fractionals are a good idea in a post-collapse scenario, but you have to consider the fact that the minting fees, as a percentage of the weight, are far higher than regular 1 oz rounds, or larger items. I think I've got 2 rolls each of 1/10, 1/4, 1/2 oz rounds TOTAL, just so I've got them if I need them. Logic dictates that if people are accepting silver again, THEY will have some way to "make change", and at that point, you'll probably be able to get more fractional silver at that point, and at the same as a regular ounce costs today...but that's just me speculating, at this point. ALL THAT HAVING BEEN SAID...I FINALLY just got the one that got me started back into it again...BLAME CHRIS AND HEIDI!!! d=O) silvergoldbull.ca/1-oz-2012-debt-and-death-silver-round *Note that if you're not in Canada, it'll give you the option to redirect to their local site for your country once you hit the site.
Me and Sal have pretty much the same the same views on the subject, really. Someone asked me once when he should get different types, so I basically told him that, as well as the idea that, if it's cool, and you JUST PLAIN WANT IT, don't get one. Get TWO. (Or even three.) That way, if you ever have to part with something you really like...you've still got a spare, so it won't feel quite as bad. (snif..) I've also thought that you shouldn't get ANY "high premium" stuff until after you've got at least 100 ounces of "barebones bullion." The idea being that you'll feel it a LOT harder if you've got to dump stuff you've paid a LOT over spot for, when you just, say, needed a tank of gas in an emergency. That's when you want as much "raw bullion" as possible...part with "the cheap stuff" first, so that you can take the time to find "the right buyer" for your more costly, or collectible coins. Here's a few items that, while I couldn't say "I'd kill for them"...I'd seriously cuss the snot outta someone! And I mean it'd REALLY be a linguistically nasty lashing, I assure you! d;o) silvergoldbull.ca/spree/wishlist/share/key/IwNzQzM2
Nice overview. And Sal, I want to personally thank you for being my teacher. Learning tons from ya. And thumbs up for your leadership of the precious metals community.
I only stack national mint rounds, with the SAE as my base. Love the Perth mint stuff, but as for variety, it suits me well. This attitude will probably change, still new to this and cautious. Great vid.
A good video for newbies Sal, although there are a couple things i would like to mention. I always tell those new to saving in precious metals that a good way to start is to use funds that you would usually have used for some other treat, for example, using money that you would normally have spent on lottery, or if you have maybe given up smoking. That way, you are not spending what you cannot afford and you also get to physically see your savings grow. The other thing i would like to mention is regarding PVC damage. I have old albums of coins with pvc inserts that i have had for decades and the coins in them that have suffered most are actually all the non silver coins, so although it is true about there being a chemical reaction, it is nowhere near as bad as some might imply.
CCT, I think it depends on the environment. If you store your coins in PVC flips in a warm humid environment, there is more of a chance for damage. I've seen it in my own silver, (and other non silver coins) Yes, excellent point about how you substitute frivolous spending for silver. It takes some of the sting out. The overall point is to start slow and be fiscally responsible. Your example is one of the better ways to practice responsible spending for your silver. Thank you so much for the thoughtful comment.
Thats the way I started too. If you are in the Euro Zone look for silver Euro Coins there were made comemorative once . If you are lucky you can get them from a Bank at facevalue. That way you can never loose couse you can return them to the bank you only can win due to rising prices when you sell to the lokal coin shop.
My very first piece since getting back into collecting silver was the 2017 Canadian maple leaf, followed by the 2017 limited u.s. silver proof and finally the 1924 Peace Dollar I wanted to get to remember my grandfather who was born that year.
I noticed that JMBullion requires a minimum order of $100 with free shipping, where APMEX you can order whatever you want but you will pay a $10 shipping fee, so the math doesn't add up unless you find a killer deal on APMEX. Good video! Thank you!
Blue collar Gold pockets I didn’t know APMEX offered that, good to know! but I was talking more about people who aren’t able to order over $100 at a time.
In Canada, the usual is $500.00 (CDN...so about $3.29 US) for free shipping. You "get around that" by ordering with a buddy or two, and bringing the order up to that value, and everyone saves "their share" of the shipping as a result. d=O)
Blue collar Gold pockets Well if I was incorrect, I appreciate the correct info. That’s what I saw when I went to order a piece of bullion. I could’ve read that wrong. But with an attitude like that, you must be a very unhappy person.
Interestingly, where I live here in Ireland, Silver coins are usually cheaper than bars. VAT is paid on both. No VAT on Gold though I can get Gold coins & bars for about the same price, though I'll not be doing that for a few months yet.
This is the best ever advice on the subject. Thanks so much, Sal, because I have a son who is so sceptical about any silver. My things that I purchase are going to my estate and he doesn't really know or care about any of the things I have acquired. I guess it won't matter after I'm gone, to me anyway. I really want my grandkids to get it. They really aren't into it either, at this time. Thanks so much for posting this.

Sal, you have definitely enlightened me as a newbie! And I actually feel confident enough now to venture out to a dealer. Thank you so much!! Excellent vid!
Great video...thanks!! I am new to gold and silver. I got into it because my father in law is into coins and for birthdays and Christmas he gives us and the kids some of his collection. Lots and lots of silver quarters and dimes. I have at least 100 of the Mercury dimes the ones you called winged liberty dime. I have been looking through them and I believe a few of these dimes will have some kind of high collectors value. We also have quite a few Morgan silver dollars and silver eagles, some proofs and some un-circulated currency. Got a couple 1oz gold eagle proofs too. I just started buying silver to add to what my father in law has given us. Some 5oz silver bars from JM and got a few pre release 2019 silver eagles coming in February.
Personally buy what u want & like! Preferably I like numismatics that r signed! all of your bullion is just bullion, no real premium! I don't like fractional 10th oz gold rounds cuz they don't gain to much or appreciate in value at all $! Amazon is expensive I don't like them. Look around for your dealers, They r all different. Storing is difficult, Be very careful! I've only sold to my lcs so I'm no help there lol. Thx for the show my man. Take it easy, shawn!
Great video, can't go wrong with Sunshine mint rounds, low premium and dealers will pay spot at sell. Sunshine Mint also provides a large percent of the blanks for ASE's.
Yea I've been liking the Sunshine mint pieces and planning on getting more. I've got 2 rounds and a 5 oz bar from them so far. Also their counterfeit mark thing is cool too.

Fantastic video brother! I dont know why you dont think the premiums frim that amazing Furtitude round will not be revamped. In the circles I run in sir that is a hot commodity. Really good base video for new stackers. I always figure I will get ay least one dollar underspot no matter what at a coin shop. This gives me a pretty straightforward way of seeing if a purchase is worthwhile. Thanks for sharing!
Avoid pawn shops at all costs. They're for suckers. They pay 75% of spot and sell at 125%. Anyone who knows what the Internet is should have no need to sell to the pawn shop, unless he is poor at managing his money.
Good video brother. New subscriber here. I like the Chinese pandas. I want to know if I hold on to them for let’s say next 10 years, will they worth more of just the spot price when selling to a LCS, Thanks in advance
Question: Government issued coin is considered money or commodity? If I want to carry it to another country, do I pay rax or not for it? If I pay tax, that is commodity. If it controlled vby just reporting, it is money. (We can carry up to $20,000 by reporting in USA)
There's a theory that if you take any coin through customs, you can declare the face value so you don't have to report the spot price value as you would with generic bullion rounds and bars.
You're very welcome now stop commenting on everybody's post and get going. I know you have a lot coming up on your plate and I wish you and your family well
Thank you so much for this video it really helped me out. I don't have any silver right now but I think I'm going to start with the Kennedy half dollars. I do have a question do you polish your silver?
The Kennedy halves from 1964 are a great place to start. You can find them in excellent condition for not a whole lot of money over the price of the silver content therein. No, it's best not to polish your silver coins as it can detract from any collector value they may potentially have.
Sir, I always appreciate your work and thanks for the information. My question is, should I buy 2017 Palau (Cooks Island) 45 Grams Antique Finish Sea Turtle at $235 [Including coin , shipping and custom's fee (Mintage of only 999)] ? Is the above mentioned coin going to be appreciated in future / Should I buy such coin ?
Most specialized collector coins have a high premium and are becoming less likely to maintain that premium in the secondary market. If you genuinely like the coin, I would buy it regardless.
Sal, sorry off topic, but which 1 oz government coin holds your attention the most due to the way it 'plays' with sunlight? I find the Canadian Maple to me absolutely memorizing.
Also I guess it's the proportionately higher risk of those Maples getting all milky on you that creates a certain feeling of fragility about the coin. :)
What are cheaper places online to buy silver bullion and silver coins? Is the US mint coins cheaper then SDBullion or JM Bullion? What's the cheapest place with most bang for your buck?
@@SalivateMetal I missed that live stream... argh work... so what was the answer? What's best bang for buck silver and where to get? especially for newer investors who want to hold long term and best bang for buck to 'resell' for top dollar in future?? like 5-10 years
i dont have much money but would buying kennedy half dollars be a good start and what years i dont understand if they are made mostly of nickle copper what ever how are they worth anything please help.

Thanks for the sub. :) The Pandas do tend to perform well among the collector market long term, depending on the year.
Great job Professor Sal. Buy precious metal and avoid Federal Reserve regurgitation.

SalivateMetal , thanks for reply!
What a great video Sal! Very valuable information.
Thanks so much April!!
You're very welcome now stop commenting on everybody's post and get going. I know you have a lot coming up on your plate and I wish you and your family well

Thank you, great video.
Pawn shop was dead accurate. I work for a pawn shop and we pay 10 cents per gram for silver.

That’s was a very informative video ! Everything is bang on. Great “Sal starter park” to be successful in stacking!! 👍👍
Thanks so much my friend. Very kind of you to say.
The % of silver in dollar coins is slightly higher than in the smaller denominations. They're all are not at exactly 90%.
Wow, that's the first I've heard that.
This was actually very helpful thank you

+++ Frog. Right now, my LCS is charging 3X spot price for privately issued 1/10th ounce silver rounds.
Not to many people mention Nicaragua I love Nicaragua
Thank you for changing your intro.
lol You're welcome.
Excellent advice :-)
Very educational!

Good video for the newbies
Thank you sir!
It is mesmerizing because of the radiating pattern in the fields. So, I am with you on that one.
Also I guess it's the proportionately higher risk of those Maples getting all milky on you that creates a certain feeling of fragility about the coin. :)
Good advice sal.

I think those new to buying silver should, in general, steer clear of buying modern silver bullion coins that have been slabbed and graded.

What are cheaper places online to buy silver bullion and silver coins? Is the US mint coins cheaper then SDBullion or JM Bullion? What's the cheapest place with most bang for your buck?
I am replying to your comment verbally on a live stream and shouting you out!
@@SalivateMetal I missed that live stream... argh work... so what was the answer? What's best bang for buck silver and where to get? especially for newer investors who want to hold long term and best bang for buck to 'resell' for top dollar in future?? like 5-10 years
Thank you for the info
