The day after Tomorrow is my favorite Disaster movie. It had everything. Hailstorms, Tornadoes, Monstunes, Tsunami's and it was an Ice age. The character's in it weren't dumb and the romance in it felt natural, wasn't the best romance but it was still watchable. It also tells us that Mother Nature will fight back if you piss her off too much.
The Day After Tomorrow is a great movie but some of the disasters that occur in the movie might be a little exaggerated. Other than that you feel horrible when the professor and his crew die.
I just wonder what excuse they're going to give because the twelfth doctor is the father from that episode. They said it'll all tie together, but who knows.
I just got back from seeing Pompeii and I actually didn't think it was that bad. It wasn't a great masterpiece or anything, but I still found it very entertaining. Jeremy made it seem like the whole movie was boring besides the end when the volcano finally erupts, but the action was actually pretty decent and fun to watch throughout the film.
yeah, not all movies must be a piece of golden cinema hahaha, it's an entertainment movie with lots of fiction but it has some facts that are not as far as what happened
@@Omarsh1692oh it’s hella inaccurate in a lot of areas, but it’s pretty watchable if you ignore that aspect. CGI imo was badass, story was decent enough to carry along things to the awesome volcano stuff, and the action was pretty cool. I rate it a 6.5/10. Not great but decent enough.
I just came back from the theatre, and I totally agree: The visuals were amazing, the story not so much. The people in this movie have really big issues when it comes to setting priorities. Live to see another day or take revenge/ rescue this girl I saw for five minutes/ stare at the errupting volcano while not moving an inch.... If I had cared for the characters a little more I would have had to supress the urge to scream "Flee, you fools!" at 10+ points in the film.
Gladiator Scene; "Strike hard and true Jon Snow." Pompeii Scene; "I want to join the side that fights for the living." Yadda yadda, i cant watch this without thinking of Jon Snow or related quotes about him.
Funny how no one realized the fact that at the ending, all that wind and tremor didn't push them down kissing. LOL, in Belgium summer wind knocks me off my bike !
Its times like now when I really, REALLY respect REAL movie reviewers...meaning the ones that review ALL films and not just the genres they like....Because I look at trailers like the one for this film and Im like...."NOPE, no thank you"....It looked like cheese before the review....so I admire someone that will sit through this kinda cheese to come back and let us know EXACTLY how cheesy it actually is!!!! Thank you Jeremy!!!!
Great review Jeremy. At least it's better than that shitty Hercules movie last month. But if I want to see a movie with a Volcano than I'll just watch Volcano LMAO!
***** 1 of 2 other cities besides pompei that were hit hard in the disaster. google pliny the younger, the history of pompei is actually quite haunting and intriguing.
Saw it yesterday. During and after the movie these were exactly my thoughts, and when it ended I said "good time... If you're drunk", and Jeremy will probably say the same. Glad I got it right...
The worst part is that the actual events surrounding pompeii lend themselves really well to a good disaster movie! You have plinius the elder braving the eruption to try and reach pompeii to save whoever can be saved, eventually becoming one of the victims of the eruption. You have the eruption itself beign a slow grind that begins with earthquakes a few day before, then moves up to the gasses and the ash rain while the city slowly becomes more and more desparate and fearful, some fleeing the city in time, others remaining, some turning to the gods others huddling together with their families trying to find shelter, some fleeing to the harbor trying to sail away or hiding in the caves down there hoping it will be enough. All of it building to a big finish that spares noone. How do you fuck up a premise that writes itself?! You don't need revenge and love and all that jazz! The volcano is kinda the designated bad guy here!
I really enjoyed the film, another example of going in with low expectations and being pleasantly surprised. I felt emotion and enjoyed the romance and bromance. I thought the special FX were great and Kit did well in his transfer from GoT to this.
I thought it was... surprisingly decent! I'm Italian and I visited Pompeii, so I was impressed by the location reconstruction, which was top-notch. The buildings, the aerial map, all was spot-on. Th elove-story was... at leats not offensive. No stupid funny scene ° la Roland Emmerich. This alone should make a watchable and enjoyable movie. Not enough to pay a ticket or a DVD, I watched it on television.
you know whats funny, this movie could've spent A TON of more time on the actual volcano and the havoc it caused, instead of forcing some bs romance on the audience. The eruption didn't just occur suddenly and end quickly...the volcano was recorded to have been smoking for days-weeks before the actual eruption. And this movie could've focused on the real tragic losses inflicted by the volcano on the people, by having realistic, varied, and sympathetic characters, instead of some crappy Hollywood generic romantic tripe. For example, there were real-life heroes during this catastrophe, like Pliny the Younger's uncle (Pliny the Elder) who died after trying to rescue fleeing Pompeiians by arranging boats to go ferry the people. Unfortunately, he failed and succumbed to the volcanic fumes or ash and died for his heroic efforts. THAT WOULD'VE BEEN MUCH MORE INTERESTING!
The problem is, the events in Pompeii could have taken at least half the movie because the events took a while to go down. First the smoke came, than it started raining stones and after that the poisoned gas and after that the lava. Also there were more towns on the island that got destroyed before Pompeii or later.
I pretty much agree with everything. For one, I really thought the Londinium scene for the two minutes of screen time it got was pretty pointless. The scene didn't build the character at all, and we never hear of it again for the rest of the movie. While it is true that it sets up the grudge with the Thracian, he proved to be a pretty useless asset to the movie; and when we finally do get to see the death fight, it ends up being super one sided. Another thing: these are disaster movies with a story happening inside them as opposed to a story with a disaster happening in it. That said, the story really is about the volcano destroying Pompeii. So the trouble that most people fall into, it seems, is giving us good characters we'll care about with compelling stories when the audience is fully aware what's going to happen. It's kind of funny having a whole good vs. evil battle when ultimately the volcano ends up winning. :-P And a P.S. my friend and I saw you last night! That was pretty cool. :-)
Everyone, mark May 16th on your calender. Why you must ask? It is the rebirth, of the horrifying, gigantic, monstrous, exciting to see on the big screen childhood Monster, we all know, as *drum roll* GODZILLA!!!
Realism isn't important. Next stay tuned for Attila the Hun as played by Bradley Cooper and the cast coming from a JC penny model catalog spring fashion line
This review is 100% correct. Mr Eko was by far the character I cared about most. Well, him and Ariadne. She seemed to show way more emotion than Cassia.
Yay for Mr. Eko!!! He was my favorite part of the movie too! And I have also been referring to him as Mr. Eko when I talk about the movie, so it made me happy that Jeremy did as well
Pompeii was actually a real thing and the people in the Pompeii city didn't know that it was a volcano so when it erupted they didn't know what was happening. so they completely forget about all of this in the movie and that part really makes it interesting
Dude I don't know what your talking about, this movie was a masterpiece everything about it was amazing great characters, amazing visuals, a groundbreaking story of romance and survival, this movie is literally my new favorite movie of all time!!!
This is like one of a kind review. Rarely did jeremy says about his rating but also referencing a lot & spoils some of the backstory. Kinda wish jeremy did those old time skits
It looks interesting. Paul W.S Anderson is an outstanding director. He never seems to disappoint me or anyone, really. Can't wait for the next installment in the Resident Evil Franchise👏
I really hope that was sarcasm....Paul W S Anderson hasn't made a good movie since Mortal Kombat, the entire Resident Evil series is a joke, they should have gone with the Romero script, at least that was well written.
nicinabox What's funny is capcom (I think it was) wanted the movies to have their own story and continuity and not follow the game and that was why they rejected the Romero script. Not sure what they were thinking.
They knew they had to get this bomb out before 300 rise of an empire because if it debuted after it would have no chance. It's like the 300 2 pregame show.
What if this movie was about a roman family's struggle to get back on their feet after the disaster takes place? I don't know if people actually survived in real life, but if they did, we could show their journey from losing their only home to reaching back up
CraigMetalHead Hey ! You're wrong. It was interesting for 6 seasons and the ending was awesome. It was however too long and some parts really dragged, it was still a great show. And definitely not and old case of "yeah awesome until season x then it's all shit". That's a very narrow minded and hypocritical way to look at it. It's like people saying "Anything past gen 1 isn't Pokémon". That's just dumb.
All I will say is you can have a brooding gladiator as the lead and have it work: Andy Whitfield (RIP) as Spartacus. But again, it's how you do it and if you get the right actor.
Does anyone here know how Adewale's name is pronounced? D: Is it "ah de wa leh akinooyeh ag bah dge?" 'Cause that guy's a badass and I wanna get that right.
Luke Elliot I'll assume when you say "ay" you mean "ey" because I pronounce "ay" as "aiii". The middle part was super useful though, thank you, I didn't know about the "d" sound in the middle name.
The only 2 reasons i'm seeing of why people complain about it is: A) The director took inspiration from Titanic and Gladiator which apparently that's bad (i feel as if people forget how much of a copy/paste the movie industry is nowadays for EVERY FILM) B) The character development, which i mean, i have to agree but i still felt like there was a connection between the main couple. Overall the movie shouldn't be as critiziced as it is, i really liked it to be honest.
I have not watched this review, nor read any comments yet, and know little to nothing about this film, but from the trailer alone, I have a feeling that Jeremy is going to sh*t on it, I could be wrong, I love Jeremy's reviews, but even if he says this is "A good time no alcohol required" (I doubt it), I'll still skip it or wait til dvd. Well..here goes;)
Jeremy you usually mention LOST in your reviews, a lot of people have not seen it, others have, I truly love it. Please do a review, show the world your opinion for one of the greatest shows of the decade, or for me, the best hands down.
1) You know who did this story better in a lot less time? DOCTOR WHO! Look up the episode "The Fires of Pompeii". It was, hands down, one of the BEST David Tennant episodes. 2) Speaking of Doctor Who, I can't be the only one who thinks it's a coincidence that a movie about Pompeii comes out the same year Peter Capaldi (who was in the episode of DW that I mentioned earlier) begins his time as the Doctor.
What about Sutherland? Did he do OK? He's a good actor otherwise, and it's unfortunate that he hasn't been that successful aside from 24. He's the new voice of Big Boss. You can't have Big Boss in shitty movies..
***** Actually I started laughing when Tommy Wisau pulled the trigger so yeah.... buuuuuut I thought this was an amazing movie and The Room can't compare sooooo..
Crappy movie aside, I always look forward to the "good time when you're drunk" reenactment of Jeremy's because they're different and hilarious each time XD Omg the volcano went off, awesome! XD
I really can´t understand how people could like this movie....I mean don´t they need any quality at all to enjoy something? No standards or demands of any kind? I don´t get it.
The movie is actually not bad,it's not good either,it's average but it's not as bad as everyone makes it to be.The CGI is actually really good and i went in expecting horrible CGI but it's actually beautiful. The main problem with the movie is that everything in the movie has been done before. We have seen several movies where a low class guy falls in love with a high class girl who is different from the other rich people and is kind and caring. We have seen gladiators fight in movies in Spartacus the show. The movie adds nothing new but if you forget all that,it's actually not that bad. One thing that i wasn't expecting is Kit Harrington's awful acting.I can't even call his acting awful cuz there wasn't any acting. He never shows one single emotion throughout the entire movie.Everyone else does a fine job. I'd give Pompeii a 6/10
The day after Tomorrow is my favorite Disaster movie.
***** I remember watching it in my Science Classes.
The Day After Tomorrow is a great movie but some of the disasters that occur in the movie might be a little exaggerated. Other than that you feel horrible when the professor and his crew die.
Are you serious? The movie where people OUTRUN THE FREEZING PROCESS. Roland Emmerich when will you ever learn about science and decent writing?
but it had the WORST wolfs ever put on screen! I always skip that part because it is just laughable
Phamy Caint Lol its Emmerich we come to expect things like that. We've got 10,000 BC
Wait, strong black character, best friends with the main white character his name is...... it's ADEWALE from AC4!!!! :)
I still think the best Pompeii story was the "Fires of Pompeii" episode of Doctor Who.
Well, the romance was better...
TheKingofBricks12 you DO realize that Doctor Who started off as a show to teach kids history and science right?
yes, yes, that was a fantastic episode.
TheKingofBricks12
That is the right way to do it.
I just wonder what excuse they're going to give because the twelfth doctor is the father from that episode. They said it'll all tie together, but who knows.

I agree!
Same here, I'd personally put it as a "good time no alcohol required"
Man i just watched it, and the movie was good as hell! 10 out of 10!!!

I knew you'd bring up Pearl Harbor, because Michael Bay literally left nothing but an insult to the history books!
Oh yeah the Japanese TOTALLY targeted the hospitals.
At least the 20 minutes of action looked cool...
Thank you Jeremy for finally recognizing us, and what we have to go through with our friends.
So what part of the movie does the Doctor come in and save his future regeneration?
Hi fellow whovian!
***** Hi fellow whovians!
watched it drunk, the 3rd act made me laugh. A lot. thank you JJ, you made my movie experience on this one incredibly better than expected
Still waiting on that LOST review lol
Maybe he filmed a LOST review and ... misplaced it.
VitalVampyr "I LOST the first season of LOST. I think that qualifies for an Irony Discount!"
JYJnKumi It really does not.
Modai Artisium "No, no! You're not getting it! I "looooost" the DVD of LOST."
(does no one get this reference? breakin' my heart.)
JYJnKumi Of course we got it. But ser have you no shame.

by John Snow do you mean the channel 4 news anchor?
Funny how no one realized the fact that at the ending, all that wind and tremor didn't push them down kissing. LOL, in Belgium summer wind knocks me off my bike !
Titanic with lava!
Snow in a movie about lava would never work...
Lol
KDUUUSH:.. HHUUUHH!!! *Credits* I laughed so hard!
Best thing about the movie was Kit. My bias towards ASoIaF/GoT makes me love everything he does.
Guess im the only one who liked it. I thought it would have been incredibly cheesy if they somehow survived haha
TheNenGod 123
yeah lol they had a lot of time to get out if the people were just smart eough to get on a horse early on!
LoneWolf
sorry bro. Yeah always better to avoid comments tho
I liked it too, but yeah, Jeremy Jahns was pretty spot on with his review. It's wooden until the volcano erupts.
I thoroughly liked this movie
Thanks man for all the movie reviews. I seriously don't watch any movie that's have to be drunk and under. I know I can take your ratings to the bank.
Great review Jeremy. At least it's better than that shitty Hercules movie last month. But if I want to see a movie with a Volcano than I'll just watch Volcano LMAO!
or the one with Pierce Brosnan :D
Or Joe vs the Volcano
Everyone remembers Pompeii but what about Herculaneum? Why can't we have a Herculaneum movie?
Pompeii is easier to pronounce.
*****
Town below Pompeii where every one from Pompeii that could evacuate ran to.
***** and their brains got boiled
***** 1 of 2 other cities besides pompei that were hit hard in the disaster. google pliny the younger, the history of pompei is actually quite haunting and intriguing.
Jimmy Russell Does Stabiae count as a city?
Sooo the best actor in this movie is the volcano. Good job Volcano!
Saw it yesterday. During and after the movie these were exactly my thoughts, and when it ended I said "good time... If you're drunk", and Jeremy will probably say the same. Glad I got it right...

Why is Anderson still directing?
Did he ever direct something?
Because people keep paying to see his movies, no matter how consistently bad they are.
i actually went to pompeii and that was the reason i went to go see it and i actually liked the movie it wasnt that bad imo
I don't wanna be annoying, but I'm dying for you to review Her.

It was a good Movie, Gabriele. Glad i didnt waste money on a ticket or DVD lol. Hope COVID TIMES finds you well.

I actually assumed the movie would be about him.
IMmephiles
nah that wouldn't be classic Hollywood tripe. It would actually be interesting and educational then.
perfecttrunks2000
Both could easily have been combined, since it could be a very cool story even if romanticized by Hollywood.
The problem is, the events in Pompeii could have taken at least half the movie because the events took a while to go down. First the smoke came, than it started raining stones and after that the poisoned gas and after that the lava. Also there were more towns on the island that got destroyed before Pompeii or later.
Mr Eko was freaking awesome... btw Jeremy... you should review Lost
I'm VERY surprised he hasn't reviewed LOST yet. I love that show to bits, and I'll be really surprised if he doesn't.
I pretty much agree with everything. For one, I really thought the Londinium scene for the two minutes of screen time it got was pretty pointless. The scene didn't build the character at all, and we never hear of it again for the rest of the movie. Hey its the Adewale from Black Flag who would have thunk it
***** Only if you're british
I actually thought this was gonna be a bit like Titanic without James Cameron. Thanks for the heads-up Jeremy! (Y)

not to mention the sappy whimsical scenes where the volcano seemingly stopped just to get all that last minute drama in...:O

This review is 100% correct. Mr Eko was by far the character I cared about most. Well, him and Ariadne. She seemed to show way more emotion than Cassia.
wait Jahns is pronounced Johns.... my life is a lie...
Same here.
Hey brother
TheTornad Brother! Nice seeing you here!
Some people call him Mr. Echo, from Lost. I always called him Adebisi, from Oz!
I was a huge fan of that show back in the day!!
Kenway's first mate
My thoughts exactly...
My thoughts exactly as well...
Oh shit! That punch of yours in the end seems more powerful than usual!!
I've been saying your name wrong this whole time xD
I'm pretty sure that's a 'Sailor Jerry' bottle Jeremy holds when he shows ''a good time when you're drunk''. I like your style Mr Jahns !!
i love your rating system xD
I've always wanted to hear his take on the movie Gladiator, that's one of my all time favorite ancient setting movies
2:49
"Ka-DURR! HAAAaaa! ...Credits."
A good way to describe any volcanic eruption.
Yay for Mr. Eko!!! He was my favorite part of the movie too! And I have also been referring to him as Mr. Eko when I talk about the movie, so it made me happy that Jeremy did as well
Uhhhh *LOST REFERENCE??*
Sherlock S3 review! :)
Pompeii was actually a real thing and the people in the Pompeii city didn't know that it was a volcano so when it erupted they didn't know what was happening. so they completely forget about all of this in the movie and that part really makes it interesting
I've always pronounced Jahns as Jams
i have no idea why
It's actually pronounced Johns
i know, the only reason i brought it up was because he told us the actual pronunciation in the video
Parks and Rec, huh?
Dude I don't know what your talking about, this movie was a masterpiece everything about it was amazing great characters, amazing visuals, a groundbreaking story of romance and survival, this movie is literally my new favorite movie of all time!!!

Since Mortal Kombat? Huh... Mortal Kombat was not even good....
I have been a member since the Superman review. I am glad to see that you are keeping it up. Before long you will be the new Gene Siskle.
LOL MR Echo. I knew he would say that :)
Adewale was my quarter master on the Jackdaw.

Jeremy, you've referenced LOST 2 times already in your reviews, so why not give it a review?
Please? :)
I'll do it... It was interesting for half a season and then they fucked it.
All I will say is you can have a brooding gladiator as the lead and have it work: Andy Whitfield (RIP) as Spartacus. But again, it's how you do it and if you get the right actor.
Jon Snow is badass
jon snow knows nothing
the scene where they used their shields to take cover from the spears looked like some sort of a little 300 ripoff
Jeremy please do a spoiler review of Last of Us, "Left Behind"!
Im waiting for the arc review. hope u make 1 soon.

2) Speaking of Doctor Who, I can't be the only one who thinks it's a coincidence that a movie about Pompeii comes out the same year Peter Capaldi (who was in the episode of DW that I mentioned earlier) begins his time as the Doctor.
U nuuh nuuthiin jun snuh
Hey at least it taste like bacon ;)
NARCOTICjungle fair enough
I loved your little PSA at the end of the review.
Really sucks that the actor who played Jon snow get sucked into this shit fest he really deserves better roles
What about Sutherland? Did he do OK? He's a good actor otherwise, and it's unfortunate that he hasn't been that successful aside from 24. He's the new voice of Big Boss. You can't have Big Boss in shitty movies..
I laughed when you displayed Mr. Eko's name onscreen. Love that guy though,he's always good,no matter how shitty the rest is.
Amazing movie and the end was very emotional
I hope you are joking....
Nope i'm not
***** Actually I started laughing when Tommy Wisau pulled the trigger so yeah.... buuuuuut I thought this was an amazing movie and The Room can't compare sooooo..
cerberu999 *Thumbs up*
+NitroGAME HAHAHAH AMAZING? You must be 12....
Crappy movie aside, I always look forward to the "good time when you're drunk" reenactment of Jeremy's because they're different and hilarious each time XD Omg the volcano went off, awesome! XD
James Cameron is my favourite director
Comes out may 2nd here. Is it worth waiting for it?
Shit, I totally was pronouncing it "Jans"...
lol "Designated drivers, I salute you..." great line
Review LOST!
I really can´t understand how people could like this movie....I mean don´t they need any quality at all to enjoy something? No standards or demands of any kind? I don´t get it.
Why ? Kit Harington and his ABS ;)
I'd give Pompeii a 6/10
It was Doctor Who!
I guess I'm that sobber friend, thank you for saluting us man.
Ade from ac4?! Is that you!?
