10:37 I would think at least a passing mention of C.C.Beck's claim that he based Captain Marvel's appearance on the actor Fred Macmurray might be appropriate here.

Yes! That’s eventually mentioned here: DocuSeries 26: More Pulp, News Strip, and Old Movie Star precursors to Comic Books by Alex Grand ua-cam.com/video/g26beYmb_yw/v-deo.html

Buster Crabbe sounds like it would be a comics hero name too! :)

Thank you for this series. Is it an urban legend that the physical appearance of Capt. Marvel was based on Fred MacMurray
Also I remember seeing photos of a character called Captain Africa (portrayed by Jon Hart) who was supposed to be The Phantom. He was renamed for copyright reasons. Lee Falk was also a prolific playwright and stage director.

Not only was the Bat from "The Bat Whispers" similar to the Joker, it seems pretty clear that Bill Finger based the opening sequence of his first Joker story on the opening sequence from either "The Bat Whispers" or the earlier silent, "The Bat." I have a video with a side-by-side comparison on my channel. Also, IIRC, C.C. Beck said he based the look of Captain Marvel on Fred MacMurray.

Not exactly action hero related, but Clark Kent was also based on Harold Lloyd, and Metropolis was clearly named after the Metropolis movie
