I’m a Trans guy who absolutely looooved American girl as a child, and this channel (and a few others) have encouraged me to get my old dolls and and try and restore them as best as I can. I eventually really wanna start collecting them, especially Kirsten and her collection. She has always been my favorite but unfortunately she was already retired by the time I got into AG dolls.
I love these long in depth videos BECAUSE i learn so much! Your “know it all” tid bits have helped me identify multiple items un my own collection, and helped me buy second hand so many times!!
So I’m one of those spoiled princess girls you’re talking about. 😂😂😂😂 I got my 1988 Kirsten for Christmas. But I’m also one that had to save and beg for her outfits. I can’t remember which ones I paid for and which ones I got as another gift, but the first one was her school dress which you don’t have here. Mine has the division signs and that was purchased in 1989. The second outfit I got was her winter outfit and woolens. Mine are hand knit and yes, the hat is hard to get on her head. 😂 I got it in 1989. I still have the garment bags for all the outfits as well, since they were originally sold sealed in garment bags. I got her red boots at the same time and I believe I still have the box for them, but I’d have to dig through the bin in my closet. Mine had those awful silky laces and no grommets! Also, the red is darker than the ones I got in 2009 when she was being archived. Next I got her birthday dress. My crown has seen better days and a flower recently fell off. My doll was very happy with the rerelease of that outfit because now she has a nice crown with actual (fake) daisies instead of whatever the cloth flowers on my original were. (I had a Goddard over your spitball comment because honestly, that’s pretty accurate! 😂) I have the box for the crown too. I believe that was also purchased in 1989 or 1990, I’m not sure which. Probably 1990 because my apron has the fake button and Velcro. The last outfit I got as a kid was her work dress and like you, I love the color and the shoulder ruffle. ❤ I believe my boots are first edition. That outfit was purchased the first year it was released. Her summer dress and hat, dirndl, nightgown, housecoat, sockor, and St. Lucia dress I purchased as an adult. I’m not a stickler for years, so none is first edition. The only doll I was a stickler for year with secondhand was my Molly’s raincoat since that was the outfit that my childhood friend had that made me fall in love with her! 🤷♀️❤️ What can I say, as a born and raised Washingtonian, I’m a sucker for a small umbrella! This was fun to see though I was correcting you mentally and chiming in as I was listening!
kirsten is the doll i picked as a kid. i still have her and all the stuff I was able to get for her. and you're right you kinda picked one and then tried to get some of their stuff if you were lucky. we didn't have any money. i only got her because my nana had some money and she felt bad she was sick when I visited for thanksgiving so when I asked for the doll in the catalogue she said yes. probably the best Christmas gift I ever got. i was 8 so this was 1990. I got her with her accessories. and I think the next Christmas my mom got me her little doll and her lunch. I'm not sure if I have the lunch set still, I cant find it and they were breakable back then not plastic. but I have the doll and I have her two-toned boots of hers and two extra outfit she had (her work dress and her dirndle and kerchief) , one of which shes currently in. i have her displayed in a glass display case which helps with dust. i had her leg repaired at the doll hospital as an adult but in general I took good care of her and shes in great shape for a well played with doll that's over 30 years old. i remember how much I wanted that trunk. there was no way I was getting it. but I wanted it so much. and the quilt they had for her bed, I loved that. there were so many things I wanted, and I wanted some of mollys stuff too, but of course I wasn't getting another dolls stuff. I'm just glad I still have her and the things I did get. i even found the washcloths and cleaning powder and brush that I got originally still in a bag with my doll stuff. I'm never selling any of it, I'm so happy I kept it all.
Love Kirsten but I don’t have much of her collection, trying to acquire it bit by bit. You crack me up…”etch a sketch brain”😅😅😅 thanks for sharing your joy and knowledge with us! 😊
🎉🎉At one point AG made a book that had a section that hypothesized what Kirsten would have been like as an adult. AG strongly hinted that she would have followed the path of a NY fashion designer. It took me a minute to actually think whether that made any sense. It made me think about the stylish lady who helped her when she was lost in NY. I guess she really made a major impression on her. Plus, Kirsten was really into desiring nice things to the point of materialism like her mother before the family left for the New World. Then Kirsten just coveted the paper dolls that mimicked fashions in the lady journals that came from the cities. So at the end of the day, I guess she would have turned into The Devil Wears Prada. Her childhood was mega traumatic, so fashion would offer Kirsten a form of escapism from the farm life of Minnesota.🎉🎉🎉
the knit woolens are really pretty. my nana used to hand knit sweaters and hats for my kirsten so I never even thought about the ones that American girl used to sell. are the ones you have there more intricate? yeah. but I'm glad I have the ones my nana made, that's obviously going to be more special to me personally. if id idnt have those that set would have been high on my list. its very cute.
You are right about adult collectors. I only got the doll and family members made her clothes as gifts using the sewing patterns. I would love to hear you talk sometime about your knowledge on the their returns system and barn sale in Wisconsin which is how I got my Molly as a child in 1994 or 1995. She has a small X on her hip. Probably not your area of expertise as a first edition collector, but you are so knowledgeable! Thanks!
I used to read my sisters American Girl magazines (they were way more fun than the Boys Life magazines I got) and I remember reading the catalogues and coveting these dolls. Now that I'm a grown man, I bought myself a vintage Kirsten and the only thing I feel weird about is that her doll furniture is nicer than my real furniture.
As im warching this AG released Kirsten surprise limited edition doll in her st.lucia outfit,Candle crown and original book with a certificate. Then the most beautiful box and then theirs only 3,000 le Kirsten holiday dolls being made and sold so im really wanting her so bad for Christmas

I watch your channel because you're a "know it all." You watch experts talk about the things because you want to learn about the things.

American girl… we want all historical characters to have trunks! High quality trunks. Heirloom trunks!
I learned a lot. I might forget some of it, but this was informative.

The raccoon ran out at some point when the house fire happened

Just went to the AG place today and it was magical lmao - coming home and relaxing to your video is the icing on the cake!!!😻 love your channel 💘

Oh my! I will buy items from you for Kirsten, I have a tanbodied Kirsten that was over loved with the softest eyelashes. She is my rescue love.
I would be so interested if you ever make a video on how to fix silver eye or bubble eye.

i saw that, it looks so beautiful. but its sooo expensive. i wish they also released the outfit on its own. but I get why they arent.
Being In ceramics class and using the pottery wheel Kirsten pottery set from her birthday set with her table and chairs are hand thrown on the wheel
I enjoy your sense of humour 😅
Her table setting should have two wooden bowls and a wooden plate for the cake. The strawberries go on top and around the cake on the plate.
Where do you acquire new wefts for Kirsten? I'm looking to fix one of my own and would love a good rec 😊
What's your opinion on what's too much to pay for Kirsten's trunk?
What do you mean the original meet dress? Like 1986 with the pattern? I know nothing about the older pleasant company dolls
I'm from Minnesota. Ope.
If you are going to sell anything I'd do it right away before the holidays when the market is on the higher end ❤
where can i get that hoodie?! it’s awesome!
I believe he sells them in his shop. It’s in the down bar.
150 seems like a lot for a storage trunk but it's so pretty ❤
YESSSSS!!
On the subject of American Girl trunks, am I the only one who thinks the handle on top of Felicity's trunk is weird?
I mean if you’re selling her 👀
