  • My first Hardy Kiwi. I might be allergic to the Hardy Kiwi so after waiting five years for them to produce I might be getting rid of them.

    The sensation you’re experience comes from calcium oxalate when kiwi is not fully ripe. You may want to try when it fully ripe before you pull this plant out.

    i believe kiwi contains an enzyme that breaks down protein. eating unripe fruit would be irritating just like fig and pineapples.

      those are definitely not ripe... should be soft and squishy like a grape. They taste so amazing when they are ripe! Don't judge any fruit based on what it tastes like before it's ripe.

    Kiwifruit contains the digestive enzyme actinidain, which helps digest proteins.

    They’re so abundant! Try thinning them out to stimulate the ones that’s left to grow larger. You can give them away if you’re allergic. Thanks for posting! Subscribed!

    The kiwi tastes bitter when they're not ripe. Pick the ones that are soft. I really hope that you're not allergic to them.

    kiwi's skin wrinkle when ripe, weight for them to fall or if picked let sit in home for two days. they will sweeten up for fresh eating.

    I seem to have killed mine the last two years...the first one caught a late frost after I planted it and this year, it just never took off...and it was super hot then too dry

    They aren't ripe yet. They should be soft when you eat them. These are hard, and the slimy texture when you cut it is a good indication that its not ripe yet

    Your odd sensation is because its not ripe. Why don't you let other growers come get some to propagate before you distroy it? Or trade them for something you do like. The stickyness shows its definitely not ripe... should be soft and squishy like a grape. They taste so amazing when they are ripe! Don't judge any fruit based on what it tastes like before it's ripe.

    I think u are eating them when they are unripe. They don’t ripen on the counter like regular kiwis... that’s why they aren’t commercially grown. Pike when soft

    I have 2 Hardy Kiwi Anna’s from Lowe’s. Unfortunately I believe they mislabeled one and I have two females. Flowers are the same. They start growing and drop off. Did you notice if the flowers of the male and female are different? They’ve dropped 2 years in a row, really disappointing. That stinks you’re allergic. I’m in MA.

    Have you had issues eating store bought kiwis?

  • @HowWereLivingGardeningChannel

    Was the kiwi maybe unripe and astringent? Never mind I didn’t watch all the way through. Sounds like you might be allergic, that would be very unfortunate. Have you eaten other kiwis without issue?

    • @NewEnglandgardening
      @NewEnglandgardening  Рік тому

      Yes it was not ripe. You have to wait for it to get very soft and then it is just like ripe kiwi.

      They definitely were not ripe. I later learned what ripe hardy kiwi are like. Here is a link to the video. ua-cam.com/video/4o4Pm_aM3PY/v-deo.html I have some on the vine this year but did not get a change to pick any before we had a frost and snow. I'll check to see if there are any good ones left this year.
