My first mp3 player was 32mb. Held like 8 songs.. My first iPod was a 20gb 3rd gen but I had a couple nanos and 4-8gb was fine for music and some pics.. I think I had one that would do video too
I remember as a kid when my dad came from work with a green 2nd-gen iPod Nano and seeing how extremely cool it was to listen to music on these instead of the Sony Walkmans.. it's crazy how far we've come since then.

I still believe there's a market for the iPod. Apple just have to find it first. But seriously, I really hope Apple never overall discontinues the entire iPod product line and the last of the iPod products. I hope they refresh the iPod touch and people will buy it. Not all people want the iPhone and just want a smart device just without phone capabilities.
ECA lol when you create something new and fresh that changes the world, but when you find out you’re also losing sales on your main product it’s too late to turn back.
I just purchased a custom SSD version of Ipod classic from etsy and love it, simply for the scroll wheel and the pure dedication to music. There is too much other stuff that takes up space on my 256g iphone, and I enjoy having a dedicated, distraction free device just for my own personal soundtrack. I personally think the scroll wheel is a bit more elegant than the touch screen interface for music. The clicking and scrolling is just so uniquely satisfying too. Phones are great for everything else, and if I want to occasionally listen to music via the phone, like in the car, I can connect it to google play music with its free unlimited cloud space, which contains the music library as well. But I really love that people are self-upgrading classic ipods with modern storage (SSDs or SDXC) and larger storage capacity. They are even adding bigger 3000mah batteries to them, and custom color options. Its a cool cottage industry for an iconic device.
The 2007 iPod nano was my first ever apple device, wow the memories I remember it was the device to have back at school I asked for one because everyone else also had it lmao.
The iPod 5 was literally my favorite iPod. I remember seeing the commercial for that iPod on t.v and I eventually got it as a birthday gift when I was like in the 5th grade and I would also use the camera and I just loved that iPod. I still have it to this day with all the videos I recorded as a kid.
1st gen iPod Nano was my first ever Apple product and it was beautiful. I'd had a knackered sony discman and cheap MP3 player before (one shaped like a usb stick with a small led screen on it) but the nano was a truly special product and felt like my first 'proper' music playing device. I took it everywhere and used it all the time between christmas 2005 and christmas 2008 as just before the year was out (i think literally on boxing day) I got my first iPhone (3G model) and shortly afterwards sold it to my uncle. At this point I began to listen to music a lot less on the go to the point where I pretty much never listen to music on the go unless on a long train, coach or car journey. I'm beginning to like the idea of a dedicated music playing device again without all the apps and other phone bullshit distracting me.
Everyone's noting the mistakes of saying the 1st gen nano is from 2015 and that the 6th gen nano ran iOS, but I also noticed a couple other things that I don't think anyone else has pointed out yet. Right at the beginning of the video when the 7 models are displayed side-by-side with the years under them, the 5th gen looks physically larger than the 4th gen, which isn't true. Despite the 5th gen having a 2.2" screen compared to the 4th gen's 2.0" screen, Apple maintained the same case size by using a slightly smaller click wheel (not noticeable in the video due to the incorrect size shown) and by reducing the distance between the screen and the click wheel (this is still visible in the video). The other thing I caught is that he notes the 7th gen nano required wired headphones to use the FM Radio, saying they are used as the antenna. That's true, but it's presented in such a way to imply the 5th and 6th gens did not need headphones for the radio, which is not true. All FM-capable nanos relied on headphones to be the antenna.
I had the 4 and I got SO much use out of it for years! I originally got the 8 GB version but then traded it for the 16 GB version a few days later. I listened to podcasts on it at least as much as I did music. I turned off the accelerometor features and strictly used the standard controls.
The iPod nano holds so many memories for me. My parents couldn't afford to buy us the new fancy technology at the time, but I begged for the first gen nano. I remember the first day getting it I was so happy! I loved that thing. Then I got the iPod nano 3rd Gen in purple which I loved too.
These were the times when technology was so interesting. Just look at the lineup, there was a drastic design overhaul each year. My favourite still is the 3rd gen, which I find the most beautiful of the designs. Maybe that's because I used to own it, and seeing it brings back so many memories. I am actually considering re-purchasing it, if only I can find it in good condition with the original packaging. The challenging part is the wheel that gets stained, and the back that scratches so easily. If I find one, I want to load it with my summer songs of 15 years ago and have it as a nostalging piece :)
Everybody is mocking him for just one mistake he made. C'mon appreciate him for the amazing videos he had mafe so far. I always come to your channel for apple knowledge sir.(and sorry for mocking previously 😅)
Harish Fulara he made another mistake. The first touch screen nano isn’t the first wearable iPod. My old iPod mini came shopped with a white clip that you can attach to your clothes.
I like how you post the polls to determine which of the three options your viewers most want to see, and just do all three regardless of how the poll turns out. @Apple Explained keep up the good work.
I had always wanted one of these as a kid. I was especially jealous of my friend when he had the camera one. Looking back I can understand why my parents opted to get me a cheap mp3 Instead of an iPod due to those prices.
My iPod Nano 7th gen is still going strong 💪🏻 personally I prefer to have a separate device for my music, as I run lots and don’t want to take my phone out where I’m likely to drop it 😋 I’ve had my iPod Nano for about 5 years now and it’s great, a real little workhorse
I had the ipod nano 3rd generation which was the best in my opinion, I kept it half of high school. It was still a mini size but had dimensions that made it more comparable to the ipod classic, Idk i just really loved the way that version looked
The 2007 model was always my favorite, i had it in the aqua green color, unfortunately it went into the pool with me so i went back to using my 1st gen until sending it in to the apple recall program and was given an 7th gen instead which I absolutely hate. Something about the scroll wheel and buttons ln the iPod that I always preferred. If i were to to out and buy an iPod today for some reason it would no doubt be an iPod classic, truly a timeless design.
I really miss the days of anxiously waiting for the next set of iPods!!! I grew up on them!! My first one was the 5th gen 30gb video Christmas 2005!!!!!! R.I.P. iPod!!!!! :(
“Ever wonder what this pockets for?” Beautiful way to introduce the nano. Jobs had many flaws, but he really had the greatest stage presence in tech ever imo
I still have my iPod Nano 7 and love it, it’s super cool and the OS is very polished. Would have been nice if they gave it a OS update with the refresh in 2015 where the OS didn’t have the style of iOS 6, as shown by the warning box that pops up when you try to click the genius button when Apple-Genius-Music-playlist-whatever-it-was-called-thing-that-I-never-used service isn’t active or something.
I LOVED MY 3RD GEN NANO AS A KID! I RECENTLY FOUND IT AGAIN AFTER 10 YEARS OF NOT USING IT AND I GOT HIT WITH SO MUCH NOSTALGIA WITH ALL THE OLD SONGS!
I got a 6th gen Nano secondhand sometime around 2013/2014 to have something to put the songs I'd bought back when I was using a school provided iPad on and I still have it to this day. It was honestly pretty clever of people to clip them to watchbands, wonder if that trend had any influence on the eventual development of the modern smartwatch.
I sold my 5th gen nano cause I needed money. It's the only thing I regret selling I loved that thing. Granted it wouldn't hold my current playlist. But still I miss it. The battery lasted a while and it looked great
my 2nd gen nano is covered in scratches. I owned a 1st gen for a very brief time, I got it from a trade and sold it after a couple months. It was also really bunged up, the back side of it felt like it was glued on and looked felt like a different kind of plastic.
5th gen was the best gen! Even today it's still incredibly easy to use and the battery still holds up. On Windows it's even easier to use than with iTunes using the free CopyTrans Manager software. I was also surprised by how well the camera and mic held up. Videos look and sound surprisingly good when viewed on a PC even though they look pretty crappy on the iPod's own display. I even know of many phones released a few years later that had worse mic audio quality than this 5th gen iPod nano.
I had one! It could record nice quality video which was amazing for late 2000s tech, and I enjoyed the FM radio. I dropped mine a lot but it never broke. Good strong quality!
The 1GB ipod nano was a major rip off. I bugged my parents for one but when we were at the store I found a 8GB Sony Walkman that also played video for $75.
I remember buying the 2012 ipod nano when I got my first job. Someone stole my headphones at school, and I was so pissed. I still use my nano, and love it
Your quality control in these videos is going down the toilet. I feel like you're rushing them out, I subscribed originally because they were very informative and accurate and it's becoming the opposite of that now.
I use use to have a 3rd gen, loved it! But with smart phones being the greatest, streaming music is just the way to go and saving music to iTunes is dead to me
I remember having the little square one for a while. I returned it though as 8 GB wasn't enough for me a that time. Plus, in the near future the iPod Touch came out and that was light years better then any other iPod I have had in the past. (:
Back 2008 when I was 10 I always had these bad boys in my backpack Ipad Nano Black (3rd Generation) PSP-1001 Piano Black 6 UMD’s (Tekken DR, Daxter, GTA LibertyCity etc.) Nokia Xpress Music 5310 Black/Red Pogs (1 Ziploc Bag of it) Now I’m 20 all I carry is an Samsung S8+, powerbank and my car keys damn how time flies
I still have a 3rd gen model. I wish I had a final generation version though. Even though I could just use my IPhone, the thing is..... I have no phone. So listening to music and watching stuff on basically a baby IPod touch, without having to use my IPad and headphones, which are less portable, would be great!
I still love my 2010 iPod touch. I use it for an alarm. It's the only device I trust. You can't turn it on vibrate so I don't have to worry about mistakingly turning it on vibrate. Now my two old iPods from way back don't work still.
I initially wanted the second generation Nano when I rediscovered the iPod after middle school. But then Apple came out with the very beautiful video iPod (classic) and that was my first. Once the hold switch stopped working and the battery was poor, the third generation Nano in silver was my next iPod. I loved it. Unfortunately, my best friend dropped it in the sand, which affected both the audio jack and the 30-pin (even after cleaning them out), and I went to an iPod touch a couple years later. I half regretted it (it was a very nice upgrade though) as my best friend got a fourth generation Nano around that time and I thought it was cooler than the touch. The Touch ended up being the last of the iPod series I would own until my first iPhone; and then purchasing an iPod classic "7th" generation recently...

My first ever wages were used to buy a Gen 2 nano which was also my first Apple product. Many iPods, iPhones and Macs later and I have no regrets.
I own a iPod Nano 5 and I have never been able to understand why you can't take photo's whit it(and only film)?
I remember buying the 2012 ipod nano when I got my first job. Someone stole my headphones at school, and I was so pissed. I still use my nano, and love it
Your quality control in these videos is going down the toilet. I feel like you're rushing them out, I subscribed originally because they were very informative and accurate and it's becoming the opposite of that now.
Since you're such an expert go make your own video. What are you doing with your life?
Mackenzie Miller so he should withhold criticism since he’s not making videos himself? are you stupid?
@@Z533xxx I mean, it isn't THAT hard to accurately read off Wikipedia.
Mackenzie Miller ? That's not how UA-cam works bud
i miss these ipods, they were fun
sexiest ipod ever... loved this nano's lineup.... i wish they still sell it
I think iPod touch 4 is the most
The first iPod Nano unveiling was so mind blowing to me when I was a kid. I don't think product unveiling has had that big of impact on me since then.
For me it was iPhone 2G and PS3 and PSP. Lol.
@@pyeltd.5457 Oh yeah the PSP was mind blowing too. That was before the Nano though
My Favorite iPods
1: iPod Mini
2: iPod Nano
3: iPod Classic
4: iPod Shuffle
IPod touch: Am I a joke to you
The fourth generation one still looks amazing ngl
I use use to have a 3rd gen, loved it! But with smart phones being the greatest, streaming music is just the way to go and saving music to iTunes is dead to me
I still have mine and it’s awesome
My first iPod!
I had the 4th gen. I like to call it the ipod classic mini
Ah but free music streaming sites are going downhill fast.
@@gerbilpmc that would be the 3rd gen iPod. 4th gen is nothing compared to the iPod Classic..
The I Pod nano of the 3rd generation in silver with 8GB was the only Apple product i ever had.
I remember having the little square one for a while. I returned it though as 8 GB wasn't enough for me a that time. Plus, in the near future the iPod Touch came out and that was light years better then any other iPod I have had in the past. (:
Also called the 6th Gen iPod Nano.
Back 2008 when I was 10 I always had these bad boys in my backpack
Ipad Nano Black (3rd Generation)
PSP-1001 Piano Black
6 UMD’s (Tekken DR, Daxter, GTA LibertyCity etc.)
Nokia Xpress Music 5310 Black/Red
Pogs (1 Ziploc Bag of it)
Now I’m 20 all I carry is an Samsung S8+, powerbank and my car keys damn how time flies
RD 2 and cigarettes and drug money and weed and crack and LSD. How time fly's.
me sitting in the corner with a ipod nano 1st gen that hasn’t had its battery changed since 2006
i’m in danger
oh no
I still have a 3rd gen model. I wish I had a final generation version though.
Even though I could just use my IPhone, the thing is..... I have no phone.
So listening to music and watching stuff on basically a baby IPod touch,
without having to use my IPad and headphones, which are less portable,
would be great!
I have the 6th and 7th gen. They also have a built-in FM Radio. I wish Apple would bring the iPod Nano back.
Important notes - 5th gen Nano was the only iPod Nano with a video camera. 7th gen Nano was the only iPod Nano with Bluetooth.
I still have my 2nd gen iPod nano, it's green and still running!
At 0:57 you say 2015, but it's meant to be 2005. The subtitles somehow got it right, but voice over was wrong.
I currently use a 5th gen 😂 and I bought it early 2019, I love it lol
my nano 6th gen just broke today :( 9 years of great memories you will be missed
I still use a 5th gen today
Me tooo!
Same
I still love my 2010 iPod touch. I use it for an alarm. It's the only device I trust. You can't turn it on vibrate so I don't have to worry about mistakingly turning it on vibrate. Now my two old iPods from way back don't work still.
"They didn't contain any Mercury" - Apple Explained 2018, lover of deadly substances.
The iPod Nano 3rd gen silver model did come in 8GB options. I have one. It's just more rarer to come by.
0:58 September 2015?
Yup! meant September 2005!

I remember in 2007 when the iPods were very popular still, but I bought a Zune 30 gb instead. Then I bought the 2nd gen iPod touch in early 2009.
That iPod Nano 2010 version was a real novelty. Started the whole smart watch craze.
The 5th gen is my favourite as it has the most features and I just got one for my birthday! :)
In July 2019 Jobs came back
I initially wanted the second generation Nano when I rediscovered the iPod after middle school.
