  • As the sun rises over the sprawling 540-megawatt solar plant in Kenhardt, South Africa, the construction team is already hard at work building the access road that stretches 12 kilometres into the heart of the site. The team is also laying the foundations for the internal roads and structures that will be needed to bring this massive renewable energy project to life.
Transformer bases, concrete consumer bases, and switching station foundations are all taking shape under the expert hands of the construction crew.
They have been diligently working to cast 3420 piles for the containers that will hold the batteries for the solar plant. It is impressive to see their progress as they prepare for the next phase of the project. The site is a hub of activity, and the team's dedication to ensuring everything is perfect is evident in their work. These 3,420 piles will hold the containers which contain the batteries that are a crucial part of the solar plant's energy storage system.
With the help of these batteries, the solar plant will be able to produce power even during the non-sun hours and provide much-needed energy to the grid for Eskom. Ruwacon is proud to be a part of it and to help bring renewable energy to the people of South Africa.
