I didn't think anyone could replace Paxman, but Amol Rajan has done a phenomenal job of rejuvenating UC in my opinion. A really excellent fit I think. Very charismatic. And it's nice that he reacts so positively when there are astonishingly fast correct buzzes.
Thank you, Pumpkin. What a remarkable player Keskin is. And as noted before, Amol has truly lifted the show. His encouragement and interaction with the teams are really appreciated.
He’s very very good and insanely quick. He does have a bit of the Bezer (Imperial contestant from quite a few years ago now) about him in that he’s brilliant but you could see him getting quite a few interruptions wrong on a bad day and maybe cost his side; nonetheless he was terrific.
Ann Gavaghan - member of series 18 Only Connect fun team; Harlequins! A rare showing of a contestant that bucks the trend of UC alumni showing up on OC. Fun game and I hope to see both teams advance.
Great match! Congrats to the winners. Looking forward to seeing you in the coming weeks. Wonderful effort by the 2nd place team - commiserations. Shout out to my friend's daughter, Ellie Romans - you did good kiddo! Thanks for our Monday treat, CosmicPumpkin! You're a star!
Many thanks to Pumpkin. You have taken on the mantle of "University Challenge." And you do it so well. Your attention to the subtitles is first class. I am hard of hearing, so subtitles matter to me, a great deal. Your subtitles do not give me any advantage for answering the questions. You. Sir. Are a saviour for all the people that love this show... Well done...
A valiant performance by Open. Down all the way but never gave up. Pride and poise. Hope to see you again, but if not, go home with your heads high. Though defeated, not disgraced!
First off, thanks CosmicPumpkin for the upload! An entertaining match for me, in that I was rooting for the losing team to get a high enough of a score to knock a previous losing team out. And it came down right to the wire. This match, of course, was never in doubt, The winning team was never threatened, and one of their team mates really put on a show. They are a legitimate threat to go all the way. That said, good effort by both teams, and my best to each individual.
Love Amol, just suits the way i think and he's just got the balance right in my opinion. Seems like a really nice chap. He's very good on the Today programme too, his questioning is just pitched right. Well done, great for UC. 😊
Loved this match. The way Hertford team were admiring Keskin after every correct answer was adorable. Open got off to a rusty start but they were able to catch on and I hope they can go through the repechage. Both the team dynamics are amazing. Balakrishnan Raju gave her contributions at the right time and as an Indian I am proud of her. Also Sourbut looks very familiar to me. Does he resemble any actor?
Excellent work from both teams - bonus rates above 2/3 on both sides and even better considering that the losers were staring at a hefty defeat halfway through. This definitely knocks Kings College, Cambridge out of the playoff spots. Will we see the losers again? We'll have to see but it's not implausible. This is also the fourth time we've had a joint score of 350+ this series, and we got to 20 starter Qs answered correctly despite a few being dropped - probably more evidence of Rajan's speed I'd say than the Qs being easier, but what do I know ;)?
I will have to turn the subtitles on my TV to understand what Keskin is saying. He could be giving the wrong answers for all I know. Seriously, he's an info animal.
Thanks Pumpkin. Great match. Some really obscure trivia (for me at least) and both teams cracked them easily. Hope OPEN stays for the repechage. Amol carrying the show quite well so far. One big difference with the Paxperson is the additional trivia that he sometimes gave when teams gave the wrong answer.
I watched Bamber for many years, then Jeremy and now, Amol. Each has their own style, and I like them all, though I do miss JP's stern headmaster approach. It was rather sexy!
Finally catching up. Thanks for the uploads! Greetings from Yerevan, from which the mount Ararat view was taken. It lies in Turkey, but it’s mostly Armenians who see it every day 😊 It was also once home to the ancient Armenian gods during pagan times.
There have been a lot of one-match wonders in the history of UC. If Keskin keeps this up though, he has a well-balanced team backing him up for a deep run
Thanks again, CosmicPumpkin. This one was pretty tough. I only got one no-answer (and one that HerOx missed on the buzzer). As a rule, I root against OxBridge teams, as they have the unfair advantage of fielding numerous teams. There was a little glimmer of hope for Open, but it was snuffed out. And Keskin needs to stop mumbling.
A good team and a brilliant team. Would love to see the losing side again, they can do better it seems. Amol is a great new face of the game. But he butchered almost every Russian name in the questions and didn't do very well with the Icelandic one either.
I think if you lost last year with 155 points it was surely a high enough score to get you a second chance. This year it is only a maybe with a tendency to no.
I only wish that the participants spoke more clearly giving their responses, in this case Keskin. I am not referring to his accent. I have to add that although a more generous question master than his predecessor, Amol also speaks too quickly.
Really don't want to seem critical, however, even though he was very knowledgeable, I could barely make out anything Keskin said (nerves? lack of confidence?). Can anyone tell me where he comes from? I think I made out 'computer science (?)' when he introduced himself.
Lack of confidence is a fairly neurotypical assumption. Keskin clearly has his own quirks, but that didn't stop him from buzzing (very confidently I would add) on a lot of questions.
Rajan seems lost behind his desk. Complete lack of charisma, which you can't deny Paxman had, for his faults. But the host doesn't matter that much to the success of this show and the pace is a decent change at least.

can't help but think imperial zeng and sheriff would've aced those first picture bonuses
Or Magdalene Byrne from 2020-21; his geographical knowledge was something else throughout his team's run :).
The "Rutland" answer to the starter made me actually feel that response of "What? No!" that Paxman used to give sometimes.

How did no one get Middlesex!?
