This song is one of my top 3 faves, so I am a bit defensive of the original. I expected to hate this, especially since there is not a second singer. But I have to admit I liked it. She maintains the integrity of the song while still adding a subtle signature. Well done.

You should look up Paul Simon's performance at the 10th anniversary of September 11 - just him and a guitar, no Garfunkel. First time I heard it as a solo performance. But the atmosphere was so perfect and breath-taking. The fact that the audience were so perfectly silent as he sang only enhanced the feeling that it was something of a tribute to those lost on the site ten years before.

The beauty of Sound of Silence is that the original is just so perfectly written - both word and composition - that it can be taken and built on, experimented with, and recast with different performers and still stand as a piece of incorruptible art.
