Tom Sykes joins his old friend Alan Wood as they have a record day on the pigeons.
I was lucky to receive a kind invitation off Alan to join him in his hide on truly awesome day on the pigeons.
Some people may remember or recognise Alan from pigeon shooting DVDs, which he stared in back in the 1990's and 2000's. He is a renowned shot on the pigeons and once held the World Record for shooting the most pigeons in one day.
This film follows Alan and I during the first hour in the hide on a exceptionally good day. We used two pigeon magnets and a handful of dead birds to bring the pigeons in range.
The hide is actually made from a fishing shelter with a camo net in front of the opening. This allowed Alan and I to shoot the pigeons comfortably, as they rarely spooked as we jumped up to shoot.
Alan shot with a Beretta Teknys, half choke and Hull Super Fast Pigeon 29g 6s (fibre) cartridges. I shot with a Beretta Xtrema, half choke and Gamebore Black Gold 30g 6s (fibre) cartridges. Both guns belong to Alan and the each have a custom made Hushpower moderated barrel to reduce the noise levels. As Alan would say, "the mod reduces the bang by a good half", which really does save the ears!
The Shotkam bonus footage at the end of the video was filmed with Alan shooting my Beretta AL391, with a Kicks half choke and Hull Super Fast Pigeon 29g 6s (fibre). This was filmed with the Brand New Shotkam 2018. It gives a real understanding on how much lead is required to shoot birds decoying and flighting past.

@@WildWeatherWarriors Hi Tom, Did you get round to doing the set up video? I have shot pigeons for about 40 years and never used a fisherman's shelter. Never too late to try new stuff so I would like to know what make/model it is. Seems like the ideal solution when we can't get into shadow and top cover. Thanks, Milo.

@@WildWeatherWarriors Thanks, Tom. Some of the blog photographs show that you had bright sunshine at times. We always struggle in those conditions without top cover or a Batley style hide. The latter can be a a pain sometimes so we'll definitely give the fisherman's kit a go. I can imagine it might have problems in a wind but we go out bungee heavy! Don't suppose you know which make he uses? Could save us some trial and error.
